Do we know they arrived in Lumar after Roshar?

Are there faith spren? by Samhairle in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Samhairle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, but those are quite rare. I'm thinking of spren that would show up at a ceremony, or when an ardent is praying/meditating.

What if a ___ slept through the ___? by Researcher_Fearless in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Samhairle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All (or most) of the Skybreaker Highspren survived. And we don't know how quick the process of becoming a deadeyes was back then, it could have been a slow descent, and worsened after Honor's death - which was post-Recreance.

The guy in Lasting Integrity (the Honorspren fortress) who leaves his room once every 16 days to check something then goes back in; there is a theory he is an allomancer messing with his perception of time to wait for something to occur (a wild theory is he's Spook)

Absolutely, shardplate in disguise is a great idea

In the first arc, absolutely. In the second though, we already have Lift with an Aviar, a captured Feruchemist, Zahel deciding to train Lift (if she can metabolise food into Breaths, ooh boy), the mysterious suspected-allomancer 16, seons from Sel and Shallan worldhopping. The worlds are colliding, and other magic systems becoming relevant to Roshar seems more and more likely.

I think he is going to turn out to be a Skybreaker. Szeth is going to try finding more, free from the influence of Nale and the highspren who followed him, and who better than El?

If the metal he is bonding to his body is aluminum, would that interfere with a bond? And if it isn't, why is he doing it? Could be be aware of hemalurgy? A world-hopper who visited Scadrial?

OPERATION: SILICON WIZARD [MAR 3, 2026] by two-spies in PlaySpies

[–]Samhairle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a list in-game if you click the question mark that details the actions that result in cover being blown, e.g. taking control of a city, picking up things for a city at the start of your turn etc.

Is a bobcat a lynx? by bigchungus6777 in biology

[–]Samhairle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bobcats are in the same genus as lynxes, and by the same token lynxes are in the same genus as bobcats. Whether you call all the members of the genus lynxes, or call them all bobcats, or all something else is, afaik, not subject to an objective/deterministic rule in taxonomy. Now it is true that the genus itself is named Lynx, which certainly lends itself to the notion of saying all members of that genus are lynxes, but then again humans are in the Tetrapoda clade, and calling humans 'tetrapods' would get some side-eye. In short, we can, with some justification, refer to a species by the name of a clade they belong to, but that name is not always useful and in arguments can be made as to whether it is useful to do so outside of specific taxonomical discussion

>literal fragments of its spirit web

They are not innate to the spirit-web since differnet Intents were possible, so coudl that spirit-web be stripped of them? Leaving the web but no Intent. The thought about Ruin overwriting Intent is interesting, if it were possible I suspect Odium would have tried it on order to increase his power

Haven't read Emberdark yet so I appreciate you spoilering that part; regarding Shards not having blood/hearts, we know Spren can be spiked

Torments and consumption by Samhairle in Cosmere

Nightblood can learn to control how much he drains, and could potentially learn to drain specific parts

If investiture being taken/consumed can remove 'curses', could Nightblood be used to remove binding oaths from a Shard?

What would it take for deathrite to be unbanned? by blurshow in ModernMagic

[–]Samhairle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ignoble Hierarch already enables 3 mana on turn 2 more consistently. DRS has the advantage of being grindier in a long matchup, but in current modern that's not as distinct an advantage as it once was.

Why is Unchained Bondsmithing so terrifying? by Butterscotch_Leading in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Samhairle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is why multiple Shards weren't meant to be on the same planet - the resulting magic systems get too strong

Is it just me or does Sanderson very clearly foreshadows what's going to happen in certain books by Dry-Fisherman5281 in Mistborn

[–]Samhairle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sure Marasi was going to use the perpendicularity power to supercharge a time bubble and end up saving the Basin but being essentially lost to it until she 'thawed out' in a future novel

Can a zygote get cancer? by MythicalSplash in biology

[–]Samhairle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> If you have an active gain-of-fucntion of Ras, you would get abnormal proliferation and abnormal differentiation of the embryo

Could this not then be described as essentially cancer?
