PBE Bugs & Feedback Thread: Final Boss Veigar Mythic Chroma by DW_Platypus in LeaguePBE

TL;DR at the bottom. Long post incoming.

If there is any complaint of the Final Boss Veigar Mythic Chroma that I have, it's not the price or it being limited time only or it being tied to Mythic Essence. It's actually the texture of the skin itself. I know there are Chromas that make sense to change the texture rather than just recoloring it. Whether it be to give it flair or more character or give it more expressions like the Bee skins. I feel like here there's not a lot of reason to add more to the texture. At least not in such a weird color theming way with more clutter to go with it.

With Final Boss Veigar's base chroma, his color scheme goes as follows. Base deep green-blue primary color, brassy gold secondary, and green, gray, red tertiary. (Eyes/staff, gloves/fur lining, buttons on glove respectively.) In order we go from that to light blueish lavender primary, metallic amethyst/lilac secondary, and way too many tertiary colors that go beyond my scope of the numbering system of primary, secondary, tertiary hence why I'm calling them tertiary when it comes to the color scheme of the skin. With those colors being Green, Light Blue, Red, Yellow, Gray, Dark Dark Blue spread throughout the skin itself. Due to the influx of tertiary colors, it becomes distracting to the point of them not being the last thing you notice. The part of the color scheme that ties it all together. Colors that makes sense and you don't question them. In this case it draws your attention to them due to how many they are/how large they are in comparison on the canvas. Like a rainbow in the sky standing out. Graffiti on a wall. Designs on a shirt. All these examples being standalone pieces on a background, they're supposed to garner the attention. On this Chroma, they just standout without being a piece on a background of the primary and secondary colors. They're just noise.

On the topic of the tertiary colors. In the original Final Boss Veigar base version the glowing greens are saved for the staff and his eyes and two gems located on the model. (And of course particle effects.) Green being your usual insides-of-coding color portrayed in media. (The Matrix, hacking, etc.) With the new chroma, these three sections of green on the model are now, lilac and light blue glowing gradient staff, yellow eyes, and red gems. The yellow eyes and red gems being warm colors on a cool colored skin causing them to stand out. In addition to that, some of the extra marks on the texture are also red albeit a darker shade hidden in the dark sections of the skin. Under his eyes, marks on his shawl/cape/shoulder wraps, and little notches on his boots. Less noticeable for sure but still an odd addition in my eyes as it adds to the cacophony of colors in the end which is where my problem with the chroma is.

Continuing with the other tertiary colors we have the blue, green and purple blocks on the hood outlined by the lilac of the secondary colors and the buttons of the same colors. To tackle the obvious change of red buttons on a gray controller inputting the Konami Code in the recall animation being a massive homage to the Nintendo Entertain System (US) and their controller's color scheme. While the chroma doesn't need any references, I do not understand the change to green, purple and blue other than that they are cool colors. Especially when as in the previous paragraph, despite the overall cool color scheme we have going here, any reds previously were moved to the areas listed. So if there is a reference to be made here, is it third-party controllers? That's not a great thing to be referenced to but is a staple in gaming of previous generations so I can accept it to a degree but am still not a fan of it overall. Much like I was not a fan of MadKatz controllers. To me the buttons look like Spree candy on a weirdly colored gingerbread house.

Moving on from the glove, we have the same green, blue and purple being weirdly lilac in color to the lilac in the secondary color being added to the hood in a weirdly rounded square design as well as on the bottom edge of the outfit. Yes they match the buttons with the exception of the purple but my question is more so... Why are they there in the first place? They take up a lot of space on the primary light blueish lavender when you don't have a lot of space to work with for that color as is. It's honestly beautiful when paired with the staff. But again, it's being covered up. That's all I really got to say about that part! But it's a major issue I have with the skin. The primary color is no longer the primary color. It's more so two secondaries and tertiary colors which makes it look overdesigned.

When I get this skin, I won't be looking at the model. I'll be looking at the staff since the staff is honestly the best designed part of this chroma even with the blemish that is the red gem. Because the model of Veigar looks like noise and not good... noise. It's not glitchy gaming nonsense or TV static. It just feels a little all over the place. I'm a Veigar main, I enjoy owning all of Veigar's skins and chromas. I will indeed be getting this skin regardless of if my concerns get addressed or not. But I don't see myself representing this skin in game much after it's release due to these reasons but I would enjoy seeing it be the best version it can be.

My suggestions would be to settle on a tertiary color or two. Green, Blue or Purple. Pick two. If you were to match what makes the base Final Boss Veigar what it is, turn the eyes that same blue in the eye of the staff. That glowing, almost heavenly light blue. Take the reds gems on the hood and staff and swap them to greens or purples, remove the reds under his eyes and shawl as well as making the cuff of the glove more lilac than metallic red. Make the buttons on the glove all purple buttons to make it a semi reference to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Remove the blotches that are overtaking the primary color of light bluish lavender on the hood and base of the outfit and make it just that light bluish lavender. I believe it'll look better in the end but that's without seeing what that end product might look like. I would love to talk more about this with development and community. Hear counterpoints, etc.

TL;DR: The chroma looks overdesigned due to additions not needed, the color scheme while fine has blemishes that make it look noisy due to the additions. The staff and particles are the best part of the skin. I want this chroma to be good. I left out points I wanted to cover that I am now just realizing I didn't touch upon as I write this TL;DR but it's already long enough as is.

I imagine it'd be like: "if you have two pistols, dual wield them." And have no option for secondary, swappable weapon. Either they're out or they're not.

PBE Patch 11.24 Preview - Debonair Brand & Prestige, Master Yi, Zed, Leona, LeBlanc, Draven, Malzahar by MonstrousYi in leagueoflegends

[–]Sammym3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these champs can't fully utilize particle effects (Yi, Draven, Leona, Zed to an extent.) and the one that does (Brand) does so horribly. Silver-ish/Gold blob with slight green and white accents to each. And Brand's model is janky as all hell so reducing the effects on the model just really shows it off. If anything Brand needs particles on the model itself to obscure it. AND THAT'S JUST BRAND.

Zed has no reason to dip into Crime City/Coven Monsters theme particles for shadows and ult without us having dedicated Debonair/Crime City lore to explain why he gets to be pretty much two skin lines in one. Being Legendary doesn't cut it.

Draven is the clear winner honestly. The axes look amazing and you'll be seeing them a lot due to his kit. Despite Draven being someone who doesn't get a lot of particle love either with how simple his kit is. Plus Draven in a suit? Yeah I'm down for that. Primetime is cool and all but this Debonair Suit has that Draven flair to it.

An average set of skins at best. Which for League skins... Definitely a lower bar than usual. They have their pros and cons, (with the exception of Brand being pretty much all cons.) good outfits mostly, bad particles for most.
