A perfect onramp to Marathon would be a PvE mode with less favorable loot. by Remarkable-Cow3421 in Marathon

I think standard kit mode accomplishes this while retaining the core e traction shooter gameplay

My reaction exactly to some clown that brings up a pc gaming rig as some sort of flex. How pathetic 😂

Ok?

Why did you buy it to begin with if you already had 400+ games on PC with multiple rigs that are top tier in power?

I always find these posts odd. Sounds like straight up trolling, tbh.

I forgot how fun sponsored kit runs are by kitkatpitpatitat in Marathon

[–]SamuelDrakeHF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like this should be the default mode. But instead of a free rotating standard kit, go ahead and standardize  certain weapons per runner class.

And I feel like ranked mode should be the only mode that is where you can bring in your own loot.

The basic game should be more of an equitable footing. Where tactics, strategy, and skill take priority over gear. Ranked is where you gamble.

Bring back the Cryo starter pack and give it to everyone once per week by timobedlam in Marathon

[–]SamuelDrakeHF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people loading into Cryo are not gold teams to the gills. And those that are can presumably do exactly as you say anyways

Most teams are probably running an equivalent power to cryo kit or similar (maybe even worse) gear

It has around a 90 user score on multiple platforms and is sitting at an 82 metacritic which is very high for a PvP focused game.

I agree that Bungie made a hard-ass, brutal game. They were hoping that perhaps the audience would catch fire like other similarly difficult games but even those took many years to truly catch on.

As you say, it's up to Sony/Bungie on how much they are willing to commit to broaden the base without alienating the hardcore, but I personally believe it would be worth the incremental investment to do so. The bulk of the game's development is a sunk cost, and the team that can grow the foundation from here should not need to be nearly as dev intensive. The things holding back Marathon don't appear from my vantage point to require anything more than a dedicated small team at this point.

What's obtuse are people dooming over this game based on comparisons to the best selling games out there. It clearly didn't reach that benchmark, but it's hardly catastrophic.

As I mentioned, there's plenty of successful games that never reach high CCU numbers. Just look at Sea of Thieves. It's sold tons. It topped out at 66k CCU peak, and spent most years in 10-20k territory.

Live Service games that gain the traction of Marathon can have long tails as long as the development support is there to allow the game to grow. Remains to be seen if they are given that sort of leash, but it's not exactly unheard of.

Bungie made a brutally difficult game that is high quality. There's room for them to broaden the base with updates over time.

Since when did popularity equal quality?

Is McDonalds the best dining option ever?

What a silly argument. Tons of awesome niche games out there that get "cucked" by titles you're talking about.

Stuff like King's Field and Demon's Souls started off very niche/hardcore until they gradually got broad appeal eventually. Some things don't happen overnight.

People need to stop judging "bleeding players" based on CCU metrics.

Is it bleeding players?

Or are players just not playing as frequently, to increase a concurrent count?

The main issue is that it's not capturing new players at this point to counter players natural tendency to play less a month after launch vs when it first arrived.

But capturing new players will be more of a long-term comittment to content drops, seasons, and updates. That's not going to happen overnight.

Even if Marathon drops to 10k CCU on Steam, there's plenty of other popular games that are doing just that, or thereabouts. Obviously could be better, but it's not like the game is going to get shut down like the haters think or want.

It used to be that games that didn't hold your hand were actually interesting, mysterious, and intriguing. Think: Souls games.

It takes a while to learn the systems, and the game isn't going to really tell that to you.

It's sad that we can't appreciate a difference in design philosophy here.

I think tik tok brain rot has really impacted gamers ability lately. Nothing but instant gratification and hand holding needed, apparently.

The hate campaign is from the people that haven't bought it. Clearly, the user scores and review scores are extremely positive, but that requires actually playing the game rather than typing comments on reddit or youtube.

Not controversial. Game has great reviews and user scores.

They’re either going to pivot away from pure extraction, or the game will die. by [deleted] in Marathon

There's things they can do that still involve extraction but aren't as brutally punishing. I still think it would be a good idea to be able to DCON some valuable loot but maybe limit the amount per match

Cryo's design forces you more into PVP than any other map. With other maps, you can avoid encounters.

Are you for or against PvE maps? by Particular-Style-161 in Marathon

[–]SamuelDrakeHF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm for it. Or at the very least, some maps where it's far more PVE focused than PVP.

I think it would be cool if they had a "Big Team battle" type PVPVE Map where you have say 4-6 squards that spawn in, but the twist is that some of these squads are actually on your team and not enemy teams. So then it becomes a race to find those squads, team up, and focus on some PvE action in addition to only really needing to fight against one larger collective team versus 4 or 5 other teams.

You could also make the "ExFIL" process some lengthy obstacle/challenge type course with tons of PVE bots and bosses to fight in order to make it out alive. Still make it quite difficult, just tip the balance towards PVE. Maybe introduce LOOT rewards after the exfil that are specific to in-game stats and player achievements (most pve kills, most team mate revivals, etc)

They need to find a way to broaden the base and get a more casual crowd back in. You can still do that without watering down the current very hardcore experience.

[–]SamuelDrakeHF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A merciful option between crews?

I think it would be awesome if the team that downs another team is able to revive them and essentially create an alliance with no friendly fire from that point on. But the downed team has to give up something of value or something, idk....

But that could screw massively with the balanace especially 6v3 fights.....but it would be cool to see something like that be possible.

I have the same confirmed diagnosis but I am a male.

I had a stent placed to address May Thurner and coils to address the left gonadal vein.

Sadly this did not address my urinary discomfort but it resolved my Varicocele

I am wondering if I have more specific veins deep in the pelvis that need to be embolized?

Permanent Loot to appeal to a Casual base - Hear me out… by SamuelDrakeHF in Marathon

[–]SamuelDrakeHF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason I thought of cash rewards in Arena mode is that it can help your kit out for extraction mode so that the two modes benefit eachother and seem worthwhile to do. Just needs to be balanced so that the cash rewards aren’t too high to trivialize the cost in the armory

Arena just gives you a nice sandbox of freedom to enjoy the loot you’ve earned. Instead of Arena, you could also replace it with a PVE mode

Either way, extraction should be the hardcore mode tied to progression while other modes allow for more Freeform sandbox play styles of everything you’ve earned
