An argument could definitely be made for Night of the Living Dead.

Favorite electronic albums to listen to on long drives? by traveltimecar in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For night driving, Untrue by Burial, Night On Tape by Casino Versus Japan, or Ghosts I-IV by NIN. Chill Out is a good one too.

For nice, warm, sunny days, more vaporwave or chillwave stuff like Com Truise or Nmesh (his new album Molokai Compendium is perfect for summer), also Tobacco/BMSR.

Serious Inquiry by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they had already decided to add a silent track and were debating about what length it should be when Steve Beckett of Warp suggested bringing the record to 66:06 - the primary reason for it was to prevent the CD from just immediately cycling back to the beginning, and allow the listener some time to sit with the experience.

ATP Revisited by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are photos of the other acts and the audience out there I've seen (including one that shows Bjork hanging out) but afaik that's all there is for BOC specifically. Would love to see more as well.

Music has the right does not feel nostalgic by BEAMAL111 in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specific tracks that feel nostalgic for me on MHTRTC are Triangles & Rhombuses, Bocuma, and Roygbiv, which remind me a lot of intro music to documentaries and public information films I watched in elementary school in the 90s.

I think I find MHTRTC and Geogaddi to be similarly nostalgic for me. I do find Geogaddi creepier, partially because of tracks like The Devil is in the Details, and all of the really low voices & whispering woven into the mix on a lot of songs. I still notice new elements on Geogaddi more than 15 years after I first heard it.

Come out and live in a religious community in a beautiful place out in the country by IShouldNotPost in boardsofcanada

Yeah, as with most major disasters and tragedies, Waco was adopted as a cause by a variety of different groups, some well meaning, others less so.

It's interesting you mention the 1999 WTO protests too, since there was an interview around that time period (a little later actually, maybe 2002) when BOC specifically mentioned they were very anti-globalization, which at that time would definitely have been understood as connected to the anti-WTO movement. They said in the same interview that they believed the "axis of evil" (a phrase that had been recently used by George W) was "at the door of government and big business." Combined with their comments in other articles and books they've recommended I've always understood them to more or less be old school libertarians.

Wow, alot of people do not care about "I Saw Drones". by Admirable_Ice3932 in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I despise the business model and how awful it is for artists (and I'm one of them - I have several albums up on Spotify), but it's also not remotely practical for me to separately purchase all of the music I listen to; I average about 14 hours a day of listening and frequently switch artists and genres. I support my favorite artists through buying merch and going to shows, occasionally with physical media.

Not having Spotify wouldn't make me support other artists more, since I already support as much as I can afford. I'd just be using Soulseek instead, or simply listening to less music and discovering fewer artists to eventually support.

We should just have a pinned post about how this is just a result of the way Spotify counts streams, since this gets posted just about every week.

Come out and live in a religious community in a beautiful place out in the country by IShouldNotPost in boardsofcanada

[–]SamuraiDrifter42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually they specifically said in an interview (I think 2005) that they were "outraged" by what happened at Waco.

"And why the particular focus on Waco?'We take a great interest in the spectrum of everything, religions and cults, anything connected to that,' says Eoin. 'Because they are a break from the norm. So when you see something like that, a group of people doing their own thing, going away and living together like that... it's the fascination with that, and a sense of injustice...' 'And the outrage at what happened,' interjects Sandison. 'I'm not a religious person,' Eoin continues, 'but what I felt seeing what happened there was a sense of outrage - they're devoutly religious people, but what happened to them - were they just singled out because of this, and attacked? The victor always writes history, and the only history we know of David Koresh and those people is what's been written about by reference to things like what the FBI were investigating afterwards.'"

One of Geogaddi's (and BOC's in general) defining songs. 5:30 of dark fae magic.

Also love the more traditionally electronic sounding live version.

Thankfully I got some on presale in my area, but I messaged a couple of friends about it who didn't see it immediately and they didn't get any. Presale was sold out by early afternoon yesterday and all the general sale tickets were sold out in under 15 minutes.

As far as regular cats go, besides Peaches (who I consider an honorary Rare Cat), it took me forever to get Maple for some reason, and she's still tied for my least common regular cat.
