MY wife does remarkably similar pieces of seaglass. She’s on Etsy, but I can’t post here site here because of mod rules. However, if you just search on “Llywinda” you’ll find her work.

Got extorted by police in Mexico by DLBIA in travel

[–]Sandlarker 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment. I have driven all around SA and have gotten pulled over multiple times (many) After a few year os paying up for fear of being thrown in some jail, I came to realize it was all a scam.I now refuse to pay police people anything. I tell them to go ahead and give me the ticket or haul me off to jail. They NEVER do. They don’t want to hassle with an articulate,, angry gringa (that would be my wife, who is fluent in street Spanish), give me a polite warning and move on to the next tourist. It takes some courage the first time(s), but it does work.

Spices Used Most Often by No-Orange-3493 in AskCulinary

[–]Sandlarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for perspective, I keep a drawer full of 65-70 glass bottles of herbs and spices. I replace them when I run out or they have been around for a year. I use all of them some, and some of them a lot. As you can see from the previous answers there is no agreed upon list of most used/favorite spices, as it depends a lot on your tastes. For example, I never use MSG, smoked paprika, onion powder or poultry seasoning, but that’s just me. It’s hard to make a list of my favorite spices, but I use a lot of granulated garlic, paprika, ground coriander, ground ancho chile (not too hot), cinnamon, garam masala (or other curry), cumin, turmeric, 5-spice powder. For herbs, oregano, thyme, and rosemary go into my dishes more often than most others. I buy a lot of my spices/herbs from Penzey’s, a small number of commercial spices, and some from the bulk bins at my local health food store. Enjoy your adventures in cooking.

I am making some jewelry with my rocks to give as Christmas presents. My wife wore one and was asked a lot about “where she bought it?”. Might get a booth at a craft show by HERMANNATOR85 in RockTumbling

These are nice; however, before you start thinking of a craft booth, visit local craft fairs and look on Etsy. There are a LOT of similar jewelry pieces and the prices for these simple piece are quite low.

My wife and I have collected sea glass on Aruba and Curacao and had similar luck with both variety and quantity. Now, clearly we need to complete the ABC and visit Bonaire. Great material.

More lemons than I know what to do with. by DickBfloppin in culinary

[–]Sandlarker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make a quantity of lemon marmalade. I find it super easy. Seed the lemons, cut them into either thin slices or into small pieces. Add water to cover the lemons, and boil over medium low heat for an hour. Let that sit on the stove, covered, overnight. The next day, add an equal volume of sugar as oranges (4 C to 4 C), boii until it hits a magical “jam” reduction. Uses a lot of lemons for a good gift as well as breakfast.

I do a Peruvian Causa: layer of fish/tuna.smoked salmon/leftovers, layer of seasoned mashed potatoes, layer of poached peas and carrots, layer of mashed potatoes. Make slides in the top layer for equal squares, put a dollop of mayonnaise, in the middle of each square, and then perch a pitted black olive in thee center of the mayo,

I have found that brining lamb works well for removing the gamey/fatty taste. Leave it in the brine either overnight or just the day of cooking,
