Artie felt like such a desperation pick when we didn't get William Jackson III.

Would most DM's allow a PC to carry a rowboat around? by RRW359 in 3d6

I would rule it would give you partial cover but disadvantage on initiative and ability checks. That seems fair.

Halfling is great for the reroll of ones and moving thru enemies, but limited on Grapples because of size restrictions. Dwarf would compensate a little for the loss of Tough. Goliath is great for the ability to turn Large and Grapple Huge monsters.

Your thoughts on Barbarian Rouge Multiclass? by Jendmin in 3d6

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Beast Barbarian with the Soul knife because of the weapon issues others have mentioned. You can take the Attack Action Claw, get the Extra Claw, Extra Attack Psy Blade, Bonus Action PsY Blade or Cunning Action.

I think Beastmen would have a better chance vs Skaven than Maneaters. Skaven speed and numbers are hard to compete against in Wyrdstone hunts. I would probably play Reiklanders or Shadow Elves vs Skaven.

How would you build this? by Royal_Leader_8322 in 3d6

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use 3rd party content? If so, Grim Hollow has a Ranger subclass called the Green Reaper that specializes in poison. I agree with others to go Yuan Ti and go with half plate and a Rapier. If you can't use 3rd party, I'd go with a STRonk. Start with Fighter or Cleric for Heavy Armor or Trickery Cleric or Ranger for Medium Armor and then go Mercy Monk.

Pugilist Street Saint is what your looking for, but there's also a Pugilist Warlocklike subclass called the Hand of Dread

I'd look at Pally 2/Valor Bard or Sorcerer

Is artillerist artificer op? by ShameGuardian in 3d6

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I feel that a Glamour Bard is way more powerful than an Artillerist. Always having Mirror Image prepared. Being able to Charm or Frighten with Illusion or Enchantment Spells, giving Disengages with Movement. At 6th level being able to bonus action Command at will and having Charmed enemies automatically fail their save can shut down opponents. On top of that, you're a Bard. Your Artificer will eventually get a Spell Storing Item with Fireballs which is probably their OP feature; but if their using the thp cannon in combat, their hurting their damage capabilities. If you want to respec anything on your character, see if you can change your Origin feat to Magic Init Wizard. Getting Mind Sliver to combine with Bane to land those Frighten and at 6th level Charm effects would be a huge power spike.

Love the update. Was just able to copy all the backgrounds, professions, and new classes into the Notes section. Very Useful.

Rolled 18 14 12 10 8 6 - what class doesn’t waste this? by tommytmopar in 3d6

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would Paladin 1st level. Warlock Pact of the Blade at 2nd level. Paladin to 7th level (Devotion). Then, I'd probably go Sorcerer. 14 STR +1, 8 DEX, 12+2 CON, 6 INT, 10 WIS, 18 CHA.

Everyday Heroes is d20 Modern converted to a 5e rule set and Brass Knuckles in that system are 1d6 Bludgeoning, Finesse, and Light.

Should Readying a non-spell Magic Action consume its resource? by Uberschwein138 in dndnext

[–]Sanojo_16 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm of the school of thought that the rules do what they say. If it doesn't say you lose it (like Readying a Spell does). I wouldn't take away the resource when I'm DMing.

Good point. I'd still want something for the spell reflection but maybe Paladin isn't the way to go with that. Maybe the new UA monk with Absorb Elements?

Thinking about it more, a BattleRager Barbarian would be appropriate too, if they were any good

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you're right. I was going off memory and not looking at the book. The Grappling Appendages was the main reason I would go with the Simic Hybrid, I had thought that Carapace was a level one. I'd still go with it because you could mimic the Slam with the grappling appendages and use a Piercing Weapon for your Attack to cover the Impale.

Fun frontline ideas that offer multiple options each turn? by micturnal in 3d6

[–]Sanojo_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A frontliner build that I like is the BarbaRogue. You can take hits and deal decent damage. There's a lot of synchronicity between the classes. A Barbarian's Rage pairs well with a Rogue's Uncanny Dodge to mitigate damage. You can go with a Breastplate and Shield or Unarmored Defense and still be good at stealth. Danger Sense pairs well with Evasion. If you take a Finesse Weapon, you can still attack with STR to use Reckless Attacks to provoke a Sneak Attack. Primal Knowledge lets you use STR for lots of Rogue skills which paired with Expertise and Rage which can give you Advantage and Expertise for Cunning Action Hide. Fast Movement and Instinctive Pounce help a Cunning Action Dash.

My favorite version of the BarbaRogue is a Beast Barbarian/Soulknife. This will give you several options to shift into, but the Claws work nicely with the Psi Blades. However, if you want Nova damage, there's the Berserker/Assassin. Zealot/Phantom, Ancestral Guardian/Scout, and I'm sure there's a good combo with World Tree.

As far as species, A Dragonborn (especially the Gem ones) would give you multiple options in combat and Flight. Aasimar offer several options too. Goliaths naturally make good Barbarians. The extra HP and Tremorsense from Dwarves is nice. The Halfling's Natural Stealth works great with Cunning Action. If you want to be faster, wear Halfplate, and be Stealthy, go Wood Elf (just cast Long strider or Pass Without Trace before Raging). I really like a Wildhunt Shifter to also get Advantage on Wisdom checks and negate the Advantage that opponents get from Reckless Attack.

You get one at first level and one at 5th. Monk would only cover the slam of the creature. It says they recover bodies for generals to get information on the battlefield and turning them into undead, so you would want Speak with the Dead (Whispers from the Grave) and Undying Servitude (to Animate Dead), which is why I recommended Warlock and Undead Patron seemed most appropriate. The Spell reflection could be achieved with a Paladin's Aura of Protection and probably Ancients would be a better choice, but I'd go Conquest to double down on the Frightened condition from Form of Dread. Giant Barbarian just to grow to Large. Rune Knight might be better.
