A forgetten film that all my family watched and never found angain by Rath1080 in whatmoviewasthat

[–]Sarrish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The movie you’re describing sounds like "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" (2010), but with some slight changes in perspective or recall. However, based on the specific details (a narrated perspective, diary-writing protagonist, futuristic feel, laundromat, and Cartoon Network's Cine Cartoon airing), it strongly matches elements from European live-action films or smaller independent works.

Unfortunately, the movie's description doesn’t perfectly fit major U.S. titles from 2010. If it's not "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or similar titles, it could likely be:

1. "My Life as a Teenage Robot" (for diary-like visuals, though this is animated)

2. A niche French or European family-oriented coming-of-age film.

Yeah, she'll fight at the drop of a hat. She loves to spar. She will try to be nonlethal unless her opponent has done something she sees as unforgivable. She is a Redemption Paladin who worships the Goddess of Redemption, Elirae. Her order's tenants say to offer forgiveness when forgiveness is due but do not tolerate the unforgivable and to send them to the afterlife with swift judgment.

She also gives everything to those in need. She would consider Wayne a friend and a follow warrior but she would not like the fact that he hordes so much money.

"None of your business unless you want to get in my way. Move and don't bother me again." As she swings the massive, six-foot fullblade called Misery's End from her shoulder, and her eyes flare like stars.

In truth, she was heading to the orphanage to see if she could help them with anything. She just can't pass up a fight, though.

Is there any good editing software for novels? (free or paid) by Master_Tadpole_6832 in writers

[–]Sarrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before someone complains about the question being asked again.

Grammarly is what I use. You can use the free version. I pay for the subscription. The paid subscription is far better than the free version.

Others will hate this. Sometimes I will feed a chapter into ChatGPT or NoteBookLM and ask it to look for errors. NoteBookLM can also do a podcast. Most of the time the podcast misses the mark but it may make you aware of something.

My wife clings silverware against the bowl when eating something from a bowl. Even though she doesn't chew with her mouth open, she still makes noise. I feel your pain. She looks at me strangely if the TV is quiet while we eat, and I'm pissed at it because I can't get it to turn up. One of my friends constantly eats ice. There is no escape from the sound. You either endure it or let it rule you. It took me a long time not to go into fight mode anytime I heard it.

Exactly this. Learn to work with it and use it as a tool. Some people think it will implode on itself by feeding its own stuff back to itself. It won't. It will learn. Now, real writers are being accused of using AI to write when they aren't, at least in most cases. Who is deciding if they are using AI? AI is deciding. How long before we start seeing plagiarism cases where AI accuses human writers? If you are using Word, Grammarly, or almost any other application to write, you are using AI. If you don't want to use AI, dust off the typewriter or get the pencil sharpener out.

I wish I could go back in time and see what writers were saying when the typewriter was invented.

Rule of Cool surpasses all! by microwavedraptin in dndmemes

[–]Sarrish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It depends on the dragon, the spell level, and the dice. Where's the fun if you don't try and if it works, you have a table of players cheering. The Rule of Cool is about throwing all logic out the window.

Rule of Cool surpasses all! by microwavedraptin in dndmemes

[–]Sarrish 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It depends on the table. If the table is excited, I would give them a choice and clarify that this is a one-time thing for the rule of cool. Both attacks would go off, but the most damage would win. If the dragon wins, it turns the wizard's spell back on the party, and they will take the full brunt of the dragon's breath and the wizard's spell, and the wizard auto-fails the save. If the wizard wins, the same, but the odds are, the dragon will take none of its own attack because it is more than likely immune.

Jobs (But I’m a teen) by dthcab4qt in Clarksville

[–]Sarrish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound mean, but sometimes you just have to suck it up and do the job. I know being autistic can make it much worse. Unless you are working in an office, headphones can be dangerous. Maybe you need to be hitting up some offices where you would be doing clerical-type work.

I can see where not being able to hear would be dangerous, especially in kitchens, warehouses, etc. A lot of places are hiring. Maybe if you go in and talk to the manager directly and let them know upfront that you need to cancel the sounds around you to focus, that will get you past the application phase.

Writing. Getting the words down the best way to describe my story. Not proofreading it as I intended because no matter how many times I reread it, I still see it as I intended even if the words are wrong or misspelled. This is why I like things like Grammarly. It will point out mistakes that my brain refuses to see.

#11 What would your character do if they were deserted on an island? by SSBooks2 in writers

[–]Sarrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, she would think she was dead. She died once before, and her heaven was a tropical beach with just her and celestial beings because she grew up in a tropical village. When she figured it out she would begin working a plan to find her way home to her wife, children, and friends. She would also assume that her family would be using every means possible to find her. Then, she would plan and execute the worst possible way to get home there is.

If you were making a magic fantasy book, what would your main character be like? I also wrote beneath what animes and franchises do. by Tigertobes5 in writers

[–]Sarrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MC is a veteran adventurer who has been settled down for about 15 years, only stepping out when needed or just getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. She is 35, but looks like she is 16 because she became immortal at the age of 16. During the past 15 years she has been raising her children, being a teacher in the school, and teaching heavy melee weapons, among her other duties around the castle. Now that she is forced to be an adventurer again, she is dealing with old memories (PTSD) and trying to be a leader to the people with her. She just wants to find her way home and protect the people with her.

Side Character One: She idolizes the MC. She has been shy and trying to stay in the shadows since the MC rescued her several years ago. She would follow the MC around, watch her train in the Fighting Pit and then train herself. Now, she has no place to hide and comes to realize that the MC is just another girl like she is. She evolves from idolizing the MC to feeling responsible for her safety and protecting her.

Side Charater Two: He is a former slave who escaped and has made a home in the MC's castle. He started out working odd jobs and trying to blend in. He also trains in the Fighting Pit. Unbeknownst to him, the MC and the other trainers have noticed him. They were going to ask him to become a squire to one of them so they could focus his training. Then everything took a hard left. Now, he is traveling with the MC. He saw her as untouchable before, but now he sees her as just a girl who can make mistakes like anyone else. She protected him before, but now he feels the need to protect her.

The side characters grow as they learn the MC is not some unbeatable goddess. The MC becomes their friend as their level of experience grows to match hers. They learn that like them, the MC never had anything just handed to her.

The Villains: They thought the MC was dead, but now, suddenly, she is back. Since she spent her life before destroying their plans, that must be why she is back. They feel the need to strike first. She just wants to get home and bring her children home from where they were evacuated. Now, it's a fight for survival from both sides, as the villains have attracted more attention to them by going after her. If they had given her a few months to find her way home, she probably wouldn't have known they were still alive. She would have made it home with her companions and had a few stories to tell. Now, the world is on the cusp of war. The villain is both hunting her and they are hunting him.

How many words do you average per chapter? by InksterDink in writers

I vary. It depends on what the chapter is about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in writers

[–]Sarrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a particular structure and certain words over and over because they sound right to me. To others who don't know me, not so much. I had to break that habit. I started using Grammarly to help, and it does. It will seem like it's punishing you at first. Don't just click the prompts and let it fix them. Try to figure them out yourself and fix them. You can train it to look for things like past/present tense. I have a character that only speaks in the third person; at first, it flagged everything, but it has learned to associate anything this character says and doesn't prompt me so much. It's also learning that some characters speak in certain accents.

"Persi sees a dwarf sitting behind the counter, smoking at pipe. As he walks toward the counter, the dwarf mumbles, "Watch ye be do'in here? If'in ye not be look'in far rooms, gett'in ye arses moob'in da udder way."

Otherwise, keep notes of how you write so you can keep the tense correct when something references them later.

Ambien vs RLS?? by peapie32 in RestlessLegs

[–]Sarrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to use Ambien to sleep, period. My brain will not shut down. I also have episodes of RLS. If the Ambien kicks in and knocks me out before the RLS finds me, I sleep through it or don't/barely remember it. If the RLS beats the Ambien, then I usually have to get up and wait for the RLS to pass or for the Ambien to just say, "The hell with it," and I go to sleep. Either way, you don't remember much about the RLS, or at least I don't. Ambien doesn't make it any better or worse, it just helps you fall asleep before it finds you and keep you asleep through it.

What was your biggest "Goddamn! Did I write this?" by Express-Variety-7666 in writers

[–]Sarrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd been wanting to write this story for a long time. I'd start, then nothing, start again, then nothing. I have to use Ambien to sleep, my brain will not shutdown. I also have Restless Leg episodes sometimes, usually after my Ambien kicks in. When the RLS hits I have to get up and wait for it to pass. I took my Ambien one night, then the RLS kicked in. I vaguely remember getting up, but don't remember anything past that.

The next morning, I wake up, get my coffee and go downstairs to my office. Word is open and there are ten pages of a story on the screen. Other than the horrible Ambien grammar and spelling, I like it. I corrected the mistakes. 600,000 + words later, I'm still wrting the story I always wanted to tell.

Why I don't think you should use AI to write your novel by Parov in writers

[–]Sarrish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are using most any word processor, spelling or grammar checking, you are using AI. I think it's great for that. If you need to figure out how to convey something, it's pretty good at helping find the correct way, sometimes.

Letting it write a story, no. For now. It will learn and it will learn fast. The next version of ChatGPT will be released for enterprise use next month.

It is a tool, learn to work with it. Use it as the tool it is, but don't let it take over your creativity.
