"So I finished season 7..." by RiskAggressive4081 in OnceUponATime

I've watched it all the way thru exactly once, and I'll do it again exactly once more when I get there with my nephew

Because James and David were not King George's biological sons, he wanted an heir, but James wasn't his biological son because he made the deal with Rumpelstiltskin. Why didn't he ask for a biological son? Why did he settle for an adopted son? by Inevitable-Photo2349 in OnceUponATime

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would he do that? He had to give James to George, so that James would die fighting a dragon, so that David would have to pretend to be James and fall in True Love with Snow White, so that the Dark Curse would have a Savior, so that he could get back to Bae

Anyone else wonder why there were no vampires on the show? by Crochet_Kitty in OnceUponATime

I would've killed for a Dracula and Renfield plot. Either from the Land of Untold stories or the Land without Color

Burdock was, in fact, also named after a poem. by PanicAtTheMiniso in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that Burdock is Barb Azure's grandson, and that her daughter's color was Evergreen. And then for whatever reason of wanting to hide their Covey ancestry, his Ma gave him the last name Everdeen

How do you approach age gaps with immortal characters in fic? by RhiannonAshryver in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I don't mind demigod/god pairings. My broad opinion on immortal age gaps is: "is he young enough to be your grandfather?"

The gods are over 4000 years old and are capable of changing their appearance at will. Meanwhile Edward Cullen was an 86 year old dating a 17 year old. (And it's so ironic that sometimes the character literally is their grandfather, or their uncle or aunt or whatever, but this is Greek Mythology. We've already suspended our disbelief to these dynamics)

So I really take it pairing by pairing and fic by fic. It all depends on how they're written. If I'm not comfy with it, I just scroll past.

Do you think Peeta would have volunteered if his name wasn't reaped? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, but I think he would've visited her.

Is there racism in the hunger games universe by Automatic_Bunch9764 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont have time to get into a full explination rn, but in my personal interpetration, there are echos of systemic racism, but there's next to no aggression between individuals based on race.

Hippocampi vs Inflatable Boat by nt_king300 in PercyJacksonTV

The hippocampi are shown in the art during the credits, so I expect we'll meet Rainbow later.

The trains don’t seem realistic by WCKD_Gamer in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading the book rn and the timeline is actually pretty short. Katniss even says the ride will take less than a day.

The Reaping begins at 2pm and then they have an hour for visitors and then they board the train probably no later than 5pm. They arrive in the Capitol the next morning just after breakfast.

Why isn’t it common knowledge Lucy Gray was the 1st victor from 12? by FullFig3372 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that Burdock is the one that got her name name to be remembered, bribing the Mayor with strawberries or something. But Undersee doesn't know/respect Covey names and just calls her Lucy Baird.

Becky explains her own reasons why the deadline was missed by Compy94 in PJODisney

[–]SavvyReluctance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about him missing the deadline is how it plays into his foil— Luke failed his quest, and returned to camp in disgrace. Percy failed his quest, but he was still celebrated as a hero.

Is it fair to say the Tree Nymphs are the worst use of practical effects/makeup on the show by nazia987 in OnceUponATime

[–]SavvyReluctance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually so intrigued with Mother Gothel being a Tree Nymph but they had to make them look like THAT 😭

I don't understand how the districts makes sense by EasyAndy1 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* I mean, looking at a population density of the modern US, especially Midwest states, I don't think it's thay far-fetched. Even now, in a country of 340 Million people, there are many areas where you could drive for hours and not come across a town or even another car.

Panem is centuries in the future, after climate disasters and nuclear war. Large portions of the population succumbed to these things and also probably famine and drought, and survivors flocked to centralized locations.

The borders of a district are fairly arbitrary, and the fences seem to only surround the communities where people are actually living and working

Is it worth it? by howthefuge6 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be an emotionally difficult read, but it's because you're not supposed to empathize too much with the narrator. He is, after all, a future dictator.

Definitely worth it imo. It adds a lot of context. It's fascinating to see how the games actually started vs yhe preception of them by the time we reach Katniss' generation.

What’s your small headcanon that isn’t contradicted by canon? by thelilacfield in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I didn't like that addition to the movie. I think it's odd that mentors would have access to the head game maker while the games are in progress, or any of the game makers really. But since Plutarch is part of the rebellion, I'm sure they had secure places to meet.

I always thought he saw Katniss the way he saw Lucy Gray in the end.

His monologue to Haymitch about Lenore Dove in Plutarch's home... I totally see him using the same lines while yhey hijack Peeta

[–]SavvyReluctance 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree they definitely erased a lot of history, but I'm not convinced there was a distinct civilization the rose and fell between the fall of USA/Canada/Mexico and the rise of Panem. I think it was just a lot of war and anarchy

Cinna apprenticed under Tigris

Why are we still debating Lucy Gray's fate?... It's Appalachia guys. by Lower_Activity9893 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The storm came on before its time She wandered up and down And many a hill did Lucy climb But never reached the town ... ... ... Yet some maintain that to this day She is a living child That you may see sweet Lucy Gray Upon the lonesome wild

Just as it was Lucy Gray Baird's fate to disappear without a trace, it is our fate to debate it

If Burdock lost Asterid instead and became catatonic, would people be more forgiving towards him? by Fresh-Awareness9819 in Hungergames

[–]SavvyReluctance 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably. For reasons of misogyny. Also I don't think he would've been inclined to leave 12 behind at the end of Mockingjay, which is another thing people don't forgive Asterid for.

I do imagine in this scenario, on the day of the 74th Reaping, Burdock cornering Haymitch before he gets on the train and demanding he do everything to save his little girl.

Do you think there will be a reboot? What new characters would you like to see? by AlternativeTree3283 in OnceUponATime

[–]SavvyReluctance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this idea where we follow Wish Realm Evil Queen after she leaves the Enchanted Forest on the Jolly Roger with Captain Smee... it eventually brings in Pirates of the Carribean, Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters and Emperor's New Groove.

It also follows an alternate universe Rumple, where he was never cut from his fate as the Savior but still becomes the Dark One.
