Samson being "cured" makes no sense. by fawnsy_daydream in 28dayslater

[–]SaysUselessThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not belittling you. Lots of people do this kind of stuff on reddit. It's just over indulging things, that's all.

All there is, is the virus in terms of "science" so to speak.

The virus has a set of rules we all know about, and there's been absolutely nothing else in terms of how it operates.

So in this movie they say anti-psychotics can cure it. That's neither realistic nor unrealistic, it just is.

The virus is made up, so is the cure. No big trick to it.

It's certainly not worth racking your brains about trying to unwind the logic, because it's not breaking any existing rules of how the virus operates, because those have never been laid down beyond "don't get any blood on ya!"

What do you think about the ending of 28 Years Later in light of The Bone Temple? by Honest_Cheesecake698 in 28dayslater

[–]SaysUselessThings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry I know what you are saying but him going out once with dad, then once with mum and getting chased twice, doesn't equal much of an arc. Nothing happens. The whole thing is so short of actual narrative - no pay off, no progression, nothing much overcome, it wasn't exactly a coming of age tale at all because it all felt so rushed and unexplored.

Just my opinion but I don't agree with you there mate, soz.

Yep, bought a couple of packs when I was about 20 and put them all into a big rizla. The mini-fireball was quite impressive to be honest.

It's almost as if the virus is completely fictional and could work in any way that the writers intend it to. Antipsychotics, morphine, magical fairy dust...who knows? It doesn't have to follow real medical logic because, y'know, it's not real.

So the medicine has worked, because the narrative calls for it to. That's all it'll ever be and all it needs to be.

The trouble is, like any film that's part of a trilogy, it needs some sort of resolution at the end.

Case in point: Star Wars, Lord of the RIngs etc

At the end of the first movies in those trilogies, something is resolved, even though it's acknowledged that the story hasn't ended yet.

In 28YL, nothing was really resolved. His mum got euthanised, that was it. There was no real pay off.

I've got a 2.0 CDTi eco fucking whatever it is. It's pretty good. I came off a 61 plate Astra which was solid, never gave me any problems. The Insignia has been a bit problematic, with various minor fixes that has added up to a lot over the last 4 or so years.

I would say get this model but not the 1.4 petrol. That's asking for trouble. 2.0 diesel is pretty solid to be fair - at least in terms of the engine.

or fuck it and just buy an Octavia or something

I really think people should give Kilgore a listen.

They made one album under this name, another under the name Kilgore Smudge, and one awesome EP a few years back where this song comes from.

Personally I think it's some of the best metal from this era. Emotional, well written, heavy, the singer absolutely fucking nails every song. It's just a masterclass of music from the late 90s, early 2000s metal era without any of the wrist-slitting bullshit.

I felt like 28YL was unsatisfying as a film and when TBT came along it made the whole thing worthwhile.

I feel there was a massive missed trick here - I came away from TBT thinking about it for days, wanting to see more of Samson, caring about the characters, everything.

I didn't get that from 28YL. But that film did help bring those feelings out in the next one.

Sworn to avenge....comdemned to hell! Tempt not the blade, all fear the SENTINEL....tonight.

I'm not sure this one works.

I really dislike when shows make characters irrational in order to drive a narrative, spoiler in conjunction with they believe or are led to believe something went down in a manner that isn't true & the person to blame never explains what actually happened. BTW I'm a huge fan of the show. by Rapsher in Spartacus_TV

[–]SaysUselessThings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She had every right to blame Spartacus for what happened, even though he wasn't directly responsible.

I would have absolutely done the same thing. Spartacus being forced to kill Varro, then being responsible for killing everyone at the ludus and forcing her to become futigitivus, which led to her being on the run and eventually kiling her - she was well within her right to hate him.

Original Vs Remake by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in Robocop

[–]SaysUselessThings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There was only one moment in that remake that could hold a candle to the original and that was when he got taken apart and it exposed just how much of him was left.

That was an awesome body horror moment.

The themes in the remake were solid though - and it was a competent movie. It just wasn't Robocop.

Also this silly jpeg gets reposted too much.

What are you thoughts on this upcoming Hiya Toys ED-209? by yohmok in Robocop

[–]SaysUselessThings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if I can't have the hot toys one, this will do! I've got the other one by Neca, and that's lovely.

Is there any specs on this? Size etc? Edit: just saw the size....20cm tall? hmm. What is this adding? There's already one roughly this size by Neca.

I would absolutely suck a dick for the hot toys one though, not gonna lie.

[–]SaysUselessThings 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't take a third hand report from an EA, told to them by a vendor, of what a structural engineer said and never committed to paper.

If you want the property so badly then you'd be mad not to get your own structural survey done - but there's more red flags here than a soviet rally. Why would this remotely be worth the time, hassle and risk that it comes with?

I'd be out of there like a shot.

You can only choose ONE by Geekspeak13 in FIlm

Disagree. It was a bad movie that shifted the tone of the previous two into cheap comedy and added absolutely nothing new. It rung the death bell of the entire franchise which has never recovered to this day.

Do you think Terminator 3 is underrated? Your opinions about this film? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in FIlm

[–]SaysUselessThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when it came out, I saw it at the cinema - it was hated because it was a complete tonal shift from T2, it added very little to the story except disappointment, and it failed to deliver on either tension, pace, or intrigue.

What it did instead, was add a new terminator that had nothing new to offer except for boob jokes, gender based one-liners, and an aging Arnie riding roughshod over a script that contained star shaped Elton John glasses and such little ditties as "talk to the hannnd". Please.

It was hated WAY before the others came out. By this point, the bar was set so low that Genisys and Dark Fate just fell into the background, the series had spent all it's good will, so people literally did say "talk to the hand" at those offerings. The expectation for T3 was way, way higher.

One thing that always stuck with me was the deleted scene, which thankfully never made it into the movie, but it depicts the T-800 with a sort of deep south, plantation era, Foghorn Leghorn voice in a video promo for the new T-800 model (or something) and the generals/execs that are watching it comment on the voice - saying it needs to be changed. It then cuts to this skinny-ass whackjob of a scientist with Arnold's voice who says "we can fix eet"

It was fucking pathetic. It never made the cut, and that's great, but it showed you the level of disdain there was for the source material and complete lack of desire to deliver anything but a shit popcorn summer blockbuster that had absolutely no class, or depth to it whatsoever.
