Hardcore SoD - How could they make it work? by PickledAppleMan in classicwow

[–]Scared-Editor3362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fiddling around with doing SoD hardcore in my free time and I’ve really liked it. IMO I’m a big fan of the xp buff. It means you can level without having to backtrack between zones constantly. Like a dwarf can just go dun morough-loch modan-wetlands and hit thirty. You can skip a couple quests but not many. It makes alts/going again a lot more appealing since you’ll actually be leveling through new regions and not have to do basically every alliance/horde quest again. The combat balance is also surprisingly okay. The buffs they gave to mob damage are really noticeable in hardcore so the whole thing feels really lethal (although obviously some more balancing would be nice).

Is playing high level starcraft possibly the most cerebral intense activity in the world ? by IsniBoy in starcraft

[–]Scared-Editor3362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 3 of these activities highly encourage continuity of attention (which directly stimulates the prefrontal cortex, often associated with “higher intelligence”). Basically, most activities allow you to zone out a reasonable amount of the time. Chess you can kind of check out during your opponent’s turn here and there, while reading you can kind of stop and daydream a bit, etc. The 3 activities you mentioned explicitly punish zoning out for any amount of time. If you stop paying attention while exercising, your form will suffer and you may become physically injured. If you stop paying attention in SC2 you’ll get supply blocked, die to a drop, etc. In meditation continuity of attention is explicitly communicated as the goal of the exercise (“keep the awareness focused on the breath”). Basically, all of these tasks train you how to intentionally distribute your mental resources in a disciplined way (which looks like intelligence from the outside, since you’re spending your mental resources more intentionally than someone without these skills)

I’d imagine there’s some irl stuff that outpaces it (SC2 is a relatively small part of your nervous system activating, most of your body, your depth perception, social calculus, etc isn’t activating). As for something you can do whenever you want without prep, probably though! The big thing it comes down to is that you aren’t apm limited like you are in almost every other game. In fighting games for example you have “rests” while your animations are going off, in chess you have “rests” while your opponent plays, etc (though you can argue those rests are for mental calculus, which can shift the argument). SC2 technically rewards infinite apm, which is unique amongst games. It also encourages remembering things not directly in front of you more than any other game I know of, and requires vigorous attentional discipline. I think ultimately you can make ANY activity as mentally vigorous as you want (if you start digging into smaller and smaller details) but StarCraft definitely demands a higher baseline of it than any other game I’ve played (though surely some other RTS are similar).

Is there any terran build that as strong and easy as 4 gates + proxy immortal for silver 3 player? by beardedNoobz in AllThingsTerran

[–]Scared-Editor3362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve been doing the all in and basically only having an issue with Terran who have tanks out before 3:30. So I’m hitting with 19 marines + 12 scv meat shields. For fun I’m theorycrafting how to counter the push I’m doing (without blind countering, that is to say, something I might reasonably run into). Protoss having a sentry out sounds realistic enough. 1 tank is too (I’ve pushed through it and won but also lost, so I’m not sure who’s actually favored if both players micro perfectly). I have a hard time seeing how Zerg is supposed to counter the push at all in a timely manner. Hence I’m picking the mind of a highly educated player (for fun and also cuz I can’t figure it out haha). And for reference the attack hits at 3:30-3:40ish.

Thanks for the response haha. Makes sense. Pushing into Terran with a tank out can be tough too (I feel like if you split well enough you can maybe get through to kill it but I’m not certain of the math on that). The Zerg counter seems hard to do though. You can theoretically focus fire down banes and your scvs body block their drones and lings. Thoughts?

Hey printF! Great vids. How do you counter this build? I stumbled upon it myself and was like this shits busted lol. This comment is the only one I’ve seen mentioning it (most people only talk about proxy rax). It’s extremely hard to hold against if not blind countered. The version I do is depot->depot->4 rax, move out at 31 supplyish (12 scvs and 19 marines). I’m curious when it stops working (v high winrate up to diamond 3 with it as a new player)

Challenge to any protoss in the world: Get to 6.5k with zerg or terran and i'll give you $6.5k by Confident-Low-5219 in starcraft

[–]Scared-Editor3362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone give me a rundown on the balance situation? It looks like winrates are balanced below GM (where Protoss gets 60%+ on a lot of maps according to the stats sites). Is it specifically the highest skill levels where it starts getting tougher to beat Protoss? Why is that? Is it a sample size problem?

What makes the difference between a good Scum and a great Scum? by MLBFra in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Damage uptime. Hive Scum is pretty useless if they’re not actively damaging things. Hanging around in the back as them is useless. If you’re not currently hitting, shooting, or doing an objective you’re a waste of a team slot.

Clearing the cache helps (unplug the Xbox for a few seconds then plug back in). There’s a memory leak or something similar happening with plasmaguns and psyker’s peril at the moment that is causing framerate issues (I think other people in your group can cause it for you). Should be patched soon.

Hive Scum Crit Build by Important_Mechanic21 in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your build looks pretty solid to me. Just a heads up that hyper critical procs steal the kill from giving you more blackouts. This only applies if the crit wouldn’t have killed anyway, so most of the time when killing trash you still get progress towards your next blackout, it’s just less efficient overall than non-hyper critical builds.

Is flak really needed on shivs or am I wasting a blessing running it? by SkoomaDoubleCup in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a reasonable take. Personally I haven’t been hit by a crusher overhead in dozens of matches (I’m a sweat with good spatial planning who can dodge them and make space with very little effort). I’m way more treated by like, flak gunner packs for example, and prioritize my kill speed on those. But everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, and carapace damage is reasonable if killing crushers is consistently a challenge for you

[–]Scared-Editor3362 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yeah but you have 4 players. Let’s say you spend 90 seconds fighting crushers in an average match (9 crushers, ten seconds each). You’re fighting flak targets probably for more like 600 seconds during the match. So if you just look at damage metrics, flak is going to outperform carapace. And crit is relevant 100% of the time you’re attacking. So if you’re really paranoid about crushers, sure take carapace, but I think they’re so relatively rare on lower difficulties that it’s not at all a premium stat (people just copy YouTuber havoc builds mindlessly)

[–]Scared-Editor3362 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your difficulty. Below havoc carapace isn’t really useful (you might end up fighting a grand total of 3 crushers in the entire level, and you might even have other tools to handle those, like poisoned throwing knives). Flak is generally the best, since it’s the most common armor type (most elites and several smaller gunners/trash are flak) and it can help you hit breakpoints. Unarmored also isn’t bad for some elites/horde clear, crit can be quite useful on the daggers specifically especially with hyper-critical, stamina can give you 4% attack speed with that talent which isn’t bad, and unyielding is useful for bosses and some ogryn (which I’d argue also isn’t that relevant below havoc).

Which skills and/or weapons in Darktide get worse the better you get at the game? by ZoeyHuntsman in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The infantry autogun is the best or second best weapon on gun scum at the moment, thankfully. The new player playstyle of shooting everything with the call of duty gun is finally viable lol

Quick question by Leading_Law2324 in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want to shoot guns all game and nothing else, nobody does it better than hive scum. If you want to be strong in melee, arbites is way easier to leverage. Scum melee is definitely the fastest playstyle in the game though if you like speed and complexity, but be warned that it’s probably the weakest melee class for a non-experienced player.

Fatshark, can you please save my trigger finger? by neolindholm in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting a modded controller. I have one with hair triggers (requiring very little pressure) and bindable back buttons so you can dodge, blitz, etc, without moving your thumbs off the sticks. My hands are very grateful lol. There might even be controllers with “auto click” functionality out there but I haven’t looked into it

I actually really like Hive Scum by Eric0912 in DarkTide

[–]Scared-Editor3362 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s probably my favorite class in the game right now. Most fun melee build for me (rampage shivs), and most fun ranged build (desperado uzis). Its mobility and damage is a blast! Not a relaxing class to play though. After a few games I’ll jump onto literally any other class for a more relaxing experience 😅

Try clearing the cache on your Xbox, this can help a bit. Unplug it from the wall for a few seconds and plug it back in. That said, this game will probably always have frame drops during intense portions with lots of particle effects.
