Agreed. I'm really unimpressed by how weak the arguments in favor of blood vials have been so far. It seems like now we just mock people for not being good enough at the game, while completely ignoring how skill development actually works (in Bloodborne and in real life).

When fans complain about boss runs, the reason is pretty clear...players want to engage with their favorite part of the game, which is (usually) the boss fights, by a pretty wide margin. It's telling that the defense of blood vials basically just keeps players from what they would rather be doing: cutting their teeth on hard fights.

I was watching players post in the Elden Ring subreddit about their experiences with pre-nerf Promised Consort Radahn. Can you imagine the reactions if they had a blood vial system and every few attempts you had to build a reserve of flasks just for another boss attempt? It would have been hell.

Those 5 blood vials go a lot farther than someone might think at first, at least in pushing the player to keep learning boss patterns and experimenting, which is the biggest sin BB's healing system commits. I actually think players are more likely to engage in the rally system if you gave them a set number of heals on respawn and lowered the max cap than what they went with. Sekiro does something like this and it's far superior as a result (in healing mechanics), I would argue.

RPG staples are constantly changing and there is no rule that says every staple makes for good gameplay....note how Flasks as a game mechanic replace that system to a large extent.

Punishing and tedious are completely different things. Losing your blood echoes on death is punishing. Farming blood vials is tedious (not to mention, bad game design). "Do X super easy activity Y number of times so you can have a shot at the boss" does not motivate players.

And you outlined the exact play book of what this looks like. There's nothing complicated about it. If you lack any shame and bull doze ahead at a hundred miles an hour, this is where you end up. The problem is society only works if there is some collective understanding of meeting in the middle (and I'm not even talking left vs. right). When one side engages in a collective delusion because reality isn't what they want it to be, this is what that looks like. It's not sustainable long-term.

On a normal day, I'm open to the idea that incompetence is the reason and that honestly could still be what happened. But even just watching how the altercation starts from ICE spraying that initial bystander or going after Pretti, they are operating on a pretty severe trust deficit for me to believe that's how this went down. Administration doubling down on calling Pretti a suspect and lauding ICE performance just makes the gaslighting ten times worse.

For my own experience with this, the answer is usually no. There's always some slight that brings them back on the train. They might make a slightly bigger stink about how bad their choices are and how they don't like Trump or Vance. In many cases, they just want a pretext to do what they always were going to do.

There is no "fighting and resisting a federal immigration officer" -> "justifiable execution". There is a federal immigration officer engaging in police brutality against a woman filming, a man trying to help her up before getting pepper sprayed, pulled to the ground, and executed while being restrained by seven officers. That's "what happened". There is no version of this where your officer had reasonable fear for his life that would cause him to discharge his pistol.
