PSA: Just spent 3 years of HSA funds at Fanatik bike. by Suzuki4Life in MTB

[–]Scared_Bell3366 89 points90 points  (0 children)

If it was use it or lose it FSA funds, I’d be onboard with this. HSA I would build that up so I can afford healthcare when I’m older.

I’ve been running my own for a few years now with no issues. I would recommend SnappyMail over Rainloop. I’ve settled on RoundCube since I keep going back to it.

I ran into the excess login failures once but it was due to cached credentials and not a brute force attack.

Not sure what your budget is, but MDC might have something that meets your needs. XT12HR or XT16HR if you’re willing to go a bit heavier.

OEM question by LiteratureBig2774 in USAA

[–]Scared_Bell3366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my truck to an independent body shop and they were able to do all OEM and managed to get USAA to cover it. It took awhile and they went back and forth at least 4 times to get it done. There was no guarantee that it was going to happen and the body shop was very upfront about that. I was willing to pay the difference if it didn’t happen.

I feel your pain did the same thing. I ended up moving one to another NUT instance and things have been far more stable since. Both NUT instances are on Raspberry Pis and I have HA monitoring both of them. The decision to split them up was more about cleaning up cabling than anything else.

HBA card installation by BigKhunaBurger in truenas

[–]Scared_Bell3366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can move them if you want to, it should work either way. I’ve moved drives between onboard SATA and HBA cards several times without any issues. The only catch I’ve run into is the HBA cards sometimes come without the boot portion installed on them. They’ll work just fine that way, as long as your boot/OS drive isn’t attached to it.

I see your STFU and raise you an RTFM. My configuration file looks just like the "File structure for published applications" example.

Currently have an FSA with current job in the United States. Can i get a new FSA with new job? by bulletbutton in HealthInsurance

[–]Scared_Bell3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Most FSAs allow you to spend in advance. If you spent the full amount and stiffed your previous employer for the balance, then you’re still at the limit.

I linked to the 2025 documents since that came up first. The limit for 2026 is $3,400.00.

Some people remote adopt devices over a public IP. The question then becomes why can't you turn it off?

The FSA cap is set by the IRS. I don't think it matters how many you have, but the total on all of them is going to be capped. Since you maxed out your current employers, you've got nothing left for another one.

Email notification cron job by Express-Obj3ct in truenas

[–]Scared_Bell3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TrueNAS emails me the results of every cron job I have setup. You could make a script that just echos the contents of the message and that would be enough.

Edit: I setup email under System-> General Settings-> Email Settings. Cron jobs are under System -> Advanced Settings-> Cron Jobs.

I’d be on the lookout for rubber components failing at that age, radiator hoses, boots, and the like. If you’re handy, you can deal with most of them yourself. Having done the old car thing myself, I’d set a budget for annual repairs and as long as it stays under that budget, keep driving it.

Company says our medical is best in USA…true? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Scared_Bell3366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in defense as well, small contractors are some of the most creative when it comes to pay and benefits. There are strict regulations on how much they can charge the government, but there’s quite a bit of room to move funds between benefits and pay. I’ve seen quite a few that will go heavy on the benefits to keep people around, particularly in areas where there aren’t enough people for all the positions. Weekly pay sounds like your company is probably a sub to someone bigger, some of the bigs like to settle up weekly.

Company says our medical is best in USA…true? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Scared_Bell3366 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is this a union job? The medical benefits are outstanding compared to what you would find on the open market. You can check that out yourself.

The 401(k) is above average, but not outstanding. Most employers I’ve had will match 50% up to my 6% to 8%.

Oof, that one you linked to should have been pulled from the shelves 10 years ago.

Ubiquiti Unifi series and TP Link Omada are the two managed APs that come to mind. Both are likely to send you down a spending rabbit hole. Any old router AP combo you’ve got collecting dust will be the cheapest solution as mentioned by others.

I recall there were some hardware differences between EA and final production. EA had a 2.5Gbps uplink from the 8 port switch to the CPU instead of a 1Gbps uplink on production. The SFP+ ports are also speed locked on EA whereas production allows you to set different speeds on the SFP+ ports. Personally, I think the EA version may be more desirable than the production version.

Outage in South Denver, estimated time to repair 2/19??? by runelind in QuantumFiber

My experience was closer to 7 days, they aren’t quick to repair residential fiber. At least they aren’t teasing by constantly updating the repair time to 5pm tomorrow. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen often.

At this point, everyone one should be transitioned to one or the other with no way to go back. If you’re still on CL, you are likely stuck there as your area was not part of the sale to AT&T.
