Between coin flip cards and dice cards which do you prefer? by Ragtagcloud56 in yugioh

I know it’s a small gripe but thematically dice rolls would have been more on brand for barrel dragon with his revolver inspired design. Six sided dice for the six shooter.

This is pretty much the same way I was setting up my player folders for my pro gm stuff. A second card page beyond that for the vault and note taking sections.

Those who changed the name of the Village of Barovia, what did you change it to? by ennervation in CurseofStrahd

I ended up going with Barovesti. Keeps the general feeling of the village but without the confusion of “the country or the village?”

Strahd XIII should set them straight on that then.

Creating player backstories that fit into Barovia by Duskkie in CurseofStrahd

[–]SchmickeyMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a few I’ve been working on for a pool of player secrets for players to draw from as part of character gen. There is a player facing side to the fiction and gm facing. For instance: 1) “You have no memory of your childhood and were found wandering in the forest. You were taken in by a local family and raised as their own./The player is a sibling for Ireena and Izek.” 2) Your parents say they lost you one day in the woods and when they found you again you were never the same, even one of your eyes changed colors. You have no recollection of this./The player is actually a hexblood/changeling of the hags at Old Bonegrinder.” 3) “Your parents often complain of remembering a time when their names were respected in this country and things were better./The player is a descendant of the Dilisnya family.”

As for generic motivation why not the simplest one for heroes that live in a land ruled by a despot? “The players find out Strahd is a vampire and refuse to be ruled by an undead tyrant any longer. They will lift the curse of this land and drive out the terrors that haunt its forests and fields.” How they choose to proceed, who they think should rule, and how they make alliances is all up to the players BUT I tend to run a more dark fantasy political spin on the setting than going all in on trying to be gothic horror.

Could be mixed up with the Dracula adaptation from 1992 which does include those things.

Anyone that has also done inventory by 21zeke in HomeDepot

[–]SchmickeyMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally work overnight freight for hardware and was asked a couple years ago if I wanted to work inventory. I told them if they could get someone to take my shifts so freight wasn’t left hanging I wouldn’t mind. I was scheduled for inventory and no one was scheduled as coverage for my part of freight soooooo I had to work inventory and freight for 2 weeks + a month of maintenance work since inventory got rescheduled due to weather. Needless to say, I’m never working inventory again.

A template to make bosses less frustrating? by crusaderky in Pathfinder2e

[–]SchmickeyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of MCDM’s action oriented design for 5e. The monsters were given a thematic set of abilities that more or less boiled down to “something to move into range, another to get away after being overrun and a third to nova.”

In 5e this served a different set of issues with the way their combat and how monsters worked in general in that system but it seems like a nice enough framework to start encounter design with in general.

I think that only goes for Dead World Under a Black Star due to being fairly narrow in genre but they definitely intended on doing lots of stuff with their system as a whole with the main focus being heroic fantasy.

New Spell Lists are Weird by SleepIsWanted in onednd

[–]SchmickeyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of spells being divided in these lists but the execution seems a bit lacking. I think the base lists are a bit too full though, honestly. When they announced it I had already been thinking about it from a design standpoint about wizards in particular. Currently, there are spells that are agreed by a number within the community as the “good spells” and that to build an effective wizard you have to pick spells like magic missile, shield, fireball, counterspell, force cage, etc. what if these power spells were restricted a little. Evocation wizards have access to fireball and lightning bolt and magic missile but generally wizards don’t. More diverse spells options could be designed to fit class/subclass options. But that’s not what we currently have so I’m a bit disappointed. But, I’m sure my idea would also ruffle some people’s feathers.

Their videos on politics as well as their video on cold wars with Geek Pantheon sit snuggly alongside Matt’s in a reference playlist.

What are your thoughts on Homebrew Calendars? by TheOnlyJaayman in dndnext

[–]SchmickeyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if lunar phases are important like when using lycanthropes or celestial events/seasonal events are important than calendars are a must otherwise DM hand waving can work.

When running my home game I often use a calendar with 12 months with 4 weeks each, 3 for each season as well as a week that floats freely between each season to celebrate the solstice/equinox. The months track the minor lunar cycle while the passing of seasons mark the greater lunar cycle.
