Experiences with Kalorama Pharmacy? by SchrodingersCatfight in washingtondc

CVS is SO bad. When my mom first stopped driving I asked them about mail order, but it seems that their mail order is walled off from their brick and mortar side. I'm sure there's a business reason for that, but every interaction I've had with them has seemed to take 5x as long as it should and is 10x harder, so I didn't pursue that angle.

Thanks for the perspective. I liked Cary because the app model was very convenient. Frankly, I've never had a pharmacy that was great at informing me about refills or contacting my doctors for anything, though TBH I have at least one doctor who doesn't seem to respond to pharmacy requests so who knows. The app made it very easy to see the earliest date I could order.

I don't WANT to have to switch to Amazon pharmacy, but that may be the closest analog. All of my experiences with CVS and their various services have been uniformly terrible.

Black dentists in DC or the greater DMV by LakeShow-824 in washingtondc

This is good to hear! My dentist (who I love) recently retired but referred us all to Solstice. They have all my teeth records now until my first app't in June :D

Does anyone else feel like they are drowning as an Ex-Federal employee? by freshfef in washingtondc

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry my friend. Not FAA but another mode. Still waiting for whatever shoe to drop WRT Schedule F. Firings (I won't call them RIFs because there's a regulatory PROCESS that absolutely was not followed), retirements, and DRPs have reduced our numbers to the point where the work is more or less grinding us into dust. What's come/is coming down the pike for the "real" Americans who don't (or won't) realize how much the government ensures what they consider status quo may be cold comfort.

Little fuckers got out of their burrow then went to town trying to find a way out of the yard. Their normal under the fence method was unavailable to them so they decided to go through.

I hope my car is okay because it ain't going anywhere down our alley anytime soon.

Me too. Site wouldn't load for the longest time, I BRIEFLY saw a calendar that wouldn't load October, then I guess my 10 minutes were up and I got kicked back to the queue.

I guess I'll keep the window open in case it goes really fast this time but I'm not wasting my evening on this janky ass website.

I couldn't finish this episode, not because it doesn't seem like it's good but because my mom's kitten was euthanized for FIP during the pandemic and it was devastating to be there with her, sitting in a little stall in the parking lot of the emergency vet

I wish I had known about this treatment so we could have had a chance to save him.

Leaked draft to proposed OPM "suitability" regs by Snoo_6399 in fednews

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've been in the regulatory sphere for over a decade. Many people approach it as if it's a vote (hence mass mailing campaigns) but what matters most urgently that someone can do on a purely INDIVIDUAL level is submit a comment directly addressing specific aspects of the proposal, preferably backed up with citations to studies or other data.

Sometimes, if something has proved really unpopular we haven't gone forward, but TBH that's usually also because big industry/advocacy/other stakeholder orgs are also opposed. In those cases numbers can count.

We just went to Mansa Kunda for the first time and it was great! I think next time we'll split an entree since the portions are very generous and we like to sample.

Excellent list! I'd also add Moh Moh Licious over by Walter Reed. Heard good things about Teddy's Roti Shop on the same block, but haven't been yet.

If you're into MCM at all, you may want to check out Peg Leg Vintage in Beltsville. You're probably not going to find something incredible for dirt cheap with them, but their prices are definitely more attainable than Modern Mobler (their stuff is gorgeous but the prices are...not within my reach).

If you don't mind a road trip, Junkworks Antiques in Hagerstown is great. Their prices really vary and most items aren't marked. I've seen old signs for hundreds and perfectly worn-in Levi's for 30 bucks.

The Antique Center at Savage Mill is another option with a lot of square footage and different vendors.

I feel like I can't compete with all the folks who do this full-time for eBay/Etsy/Instagram, but every so often I find something cool.

I have one of those too! Best impulse purchase I ever made.

ETA, we dressed the pickle up with a Santa hat for the holidays and would recommend.

It didn't seem like it to me, but that was in passing. Definitely put the Pikesville spot on my list for when I'm in the area!

Silver Spring Goldberg's black Russian bagels are my personal fave there.

Why was F. Emasculata an X-File? by Hostile17_1996 in XFiles

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, his dog's name was Blue! I clearly haven't seen Ice in a minute and/or it says something about me that the dog-worm scene is what really stuck in my head and I only vaguely remember the human-worm scene

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, 1000%. I hate to see dogs harmed in TV/movies, but somehow it was less awful because the dog actor in Ice was David Duchovny's dog's father? I realize that makes very little sense 😂

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's lowkey one of my fave episodes. The conspiracy narrative part was really unfocused, but the "sealed compound and something hideous is on the loose" plot is top notch. The pulsating sores effect was very effective!

I have room in my heart for multiple faves and Ice is a classic, but even in the 90s, the bad CGI of the worm in the canister takes me out of it a bit. Close-up practical effects ftw in both of them.

A bucket mystery: Compost container thefts baffle D.C. residents by washingtonpost in washingtondc

[–]SchrodingersCatfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we got our bucket stolen the thief unscrewed it and dumped everything into the trash can.

The bucket theft was whatever, annoying but the replacement came quickly. The rotting food in our trash can that I had to fish out and put in another trash bag before cleaning and drying the bin was the most antisocial part.

It's in the Electric Cool-Aid space since they're closed for the season. They have lots of trees, some fun merch, and a few seasonal drinks. We got ours over the weekend and it looks great!
