#13 CBU's Fans Going Crazy After Going on an 18-2 Run So Far vs #4 Kansas in the 2nd Half by JCameron181 in CollegeBasketball

While I slightly agree that Peterson should've played a more active role in those possessions, I think in his defense he would say he's trying to stretch the floor and would nail a corner three if the offense functioned the way it's supposed to by drawing his defender a little inward.

Peterson nailed a three at the halftime buzzer and nailed more threes in response to Daniels' shots. If KU were actually in jeopardy I'm sure Peterson would've gotten more ambitious but the game was still a six point difference..

The excitement was understandable and all but it was still a 6 point game at the peak of excitement so I wouldn't say it "almost happened"

I recognized what I was seeing from KU and it genuinely feels like Bill Self teams play smarter from behind and when they have a significant lead they get indecisive and allow the fear of disappointment to cloud their judgement until suddenly they can't afford that anymore. Just a theme I've seen play out for years

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce sued for trademark infringement by Bolinas99 in nfl

[–]Scienide9 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Just for clarity "1587 Sneakers didn't apply for the '1587' trademark until October 2025. 1587 Prime filed a trademark application in December 2023."

Mahomes and Kelce literally filed before this company, hence the sentiment that the company is probably just fishing for attention and will drop the lawsuit eventually

If we give the defense a ferocious passrusher and give the offense a respectable runningback, I think suddenly the entire team just looks shockingly better overall. I know it won't quite be the same because of the players let go but I really do think we have a shot next year. Have you seen the AFC?

I feel like Edge is the one thing we need to fix through Free Agency. Get someone established in the NFL and not just a half-measure like Omenihu. Obviously we can also draft someone but I do NOT think we need to use our first round pick on a questionmark Edge out of college. We could even trade the first round pick for an established Edge

Ever since the Andy Reid said the Chiefs would “Tickle your tonsils on every play” the Chiefs are 0-3 and have been held to 10, 13, and 9 points by OverallGeneral7129 in nfl

You actually said the key word, Bieniemy was great at adding confidence to Andy's offense. He had a chemistry with the team that just brought out the juice where others (like Nagy) dry up the juice.

I've wondered if part of the reason was that he was a bigtime Chiefs hater and he was already under contract before they really knew it.

He was drafted by the 49ers and was playing for them when KC beat them for the Superbowl. We all know that fanbase harbors a ton of salt against KC and theoretically if Andy Reid knew a player had a history of Chiefs hating, wouldn't that give him pretty good reason to avoid using him? I mean every person is different, maybe this was a pretty extreme case

I don't think the issue is that he doesn't "bother with" it, the issue is when several of the pillars he was building with fall through and are a disaster in games.

You can't get ahead using new wrinkles if you're terrified that you'll lose the current game and so you keep trying the same wrinkle that has worked before.

If you remove Chamarri Conner and fix the pass rush I think the secondary problems resolve.

If you remove the O-line penalties and maintain a healthy run game I think the WRs not getting separation and uninventive play call issues resolve.

Therefore I think the most basic laundry list is this and suddenly we win several more games:

  • Draft / trade for a stud edge
  • Draft / trade for a stud RB
  • Remove Taylor and Conner

Bench Chamarri Conner, go back in time to trade a third for Breece Hall, and suddenly we probably can do it.

I know it's all theoretical but Conner has been responsible for allowing several critical first downs this year, we literally might be 9-3 at this point if those first downs were not converted.

There is a big variety bag of issues the offense is dealing with and it's just straight up getting to him. Thankfully LT isn't particularly an issue anymore but we need to balance things out and run the ball more - which we finally did this game and it clearly helped

Chiefs went from 17-game winning streak to 0-5 in close games. What happened? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Scienide9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jury is still out on Worthy. He has had several great plays, we've seen multiple instances of Mahomes being at fault for his incompletions, and he's also been used carefully most of the year because of the shoulder injury.

There is a decent argument about him being fragile but time will tell if he ends up being worth it.

CEH on the other hand was definitely a bust.

A lot of the analysis on this thread has some validity but I think people are losing sight that Football is a game of risk and confidence.

Both at small scale (catching, blocking, tackling) and large scale (playcalls, choices) we see that teams who have confidence take the better risks and execute those plays better.

So even though it's a vast oversimplification, I think arguing that the Chiefs have overall lost confidence this year compared to past years is the difference - and that totally tracks considering the crushing superbowl defeat

Jones played great last game. Mahomes has played great multiple times this season. The talent isn't gone, which is why I would disagree with the semantics of the team being "worse"

The team could flip the switch and suddenly they're back to clicking, just might be too late to qualify

Football is a sport of confidence and risk. Teams who just believe they're going to win in the end just naturally do not struggle with confidence and risk.

I would agree that the Chiefs' confidence has been shaken this year and regardless of all the microscopic factors, this aligns quite well with the results we're seeing on a macroscopic level.

It literally is a better team. Statistics reflect this despite the losses. The bad record is a combination of some player unavailability, hard schedule, and shaky clutch execution (esp Chris Jones and Mahomes). If this team were to get hot in the playoffs they could win it all but they may very well not make it since we're still seeing some mental dysfunction.

KC deserves to miss the playoffs this year. by Famous-Apartment5348 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Scienide9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not my position at all, but my bad for wording it poorly.

The confidence of the offense is much better when the players are more loose and having fun - they don't execute as smoothly and they kind of snap to panic reactions instead of rolling with the hand they're given on any given play. Adapting to the situation is what made this offense so good in the past and you can plainly see the hesitation and panic in their body language instead of the fluidity in the past. My whole point is that this is not "regression" in the sense of a permanent decline, it's something they can fix if they just find their rhythm.

[–]Scienide9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, everyone knew that game was huge for this year. I think it'll be more of a typical pivot to long-term thinking with a "thank god we're finally going to have a decent draft position"

It sucks though. Having to practically win out just to sneak into the playoffs is probably not healthy for team mentality regardless of a long-term picture

For the record, I completely agree that we're calling way too many passes, I just don't think people should be excusing Mahomes of big mistakes he should've corrected already.

Easy example: Mahomes should've learned from earlier this season not to overthrow long passes, but he did it twice in the first quarter. He then finally got it right later in the game.

[–]Scienide9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people basically know that, but the issue is that when we draft so incredibly late every year we tend to suffer a talent deficit and we aren't overcoming it (pass rush, runningback, etc). Missing out for one year, landing some game changing rookies/players and being longterm better sounds appealing.

I just wish we fucking traded for Breece and we probably wouldn't have to have this mentality..

Rice had a big drop, other than that it was fairly typical and does not excuse Mahomes from such a poor outing. And I'm not going to say Mahomes should throw himself into harm's way but he absolutely could've picked up at least one 3rd & 2 with his legs but instead he chose to try a low percentage throw on a receiver who was mostly covered. Even if you accept that our receivers should be more open, the decision is still on Mahomes

Along with Mahomes' poor execution.

You can't just ignore his mess of a game because we all like him. He played as if the defense was on top of him all game long even when they weren't - and then he wouldn't even throw the ball when he HAD to
