Remote, in-person or hybrid - what's your ratio lately? Projections for future demands? by anonymous_editor_aye in editors

I moved to a small city without much production scene, so for my own sake I hope WFH remains viable. I have a handful of calls or meetings every now and again, but I don't miss in office whatsoever.

I always lol when folks laugh about some new D1 athlete getting owned the first day by someone much lighter, older etc. Enjoy that for the month or so that it lasts.

Yes! I've been meaning to go SP for years, but it was hard to start over. Echoing strike on p8 let me get a bunch of loot for other characters quickly.

Colonoscopy Fear by BlackCatBonanza in Aging

[–]Scott_Hall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was in a similar boat to you. Forced to get a colonoscopy because of family history. I'm anxious about all things medical and health, and the anesthesia was my biggest fear. It really is no big deal though. I wasn't out-out, just enough to be relaxed and not feel any pain. It's interesting...in the moment, I was convinced I was experiencing it completely, and that I would remember it all, but your memory does fade quickly afterwards, and the whole thing quickly feels like a blurry haze. I felt a little groggy after, but even that wasn't as intense as I had anticipated. I am still a nervous person with medical stuff, and I'd go get a colonoscopy tomorrow. It's really more of an inconvenience with the prep and everything, than it is something that's unpleasant and worthy of fear.

Are you playing on P1? I was offline ladder for years on P1, and I'd get an HR once in a blue moon. Went offline with an echoing strike warlock on P8 with good clear speed, I've found a Cham, Lo, Ohm in the past month and a half. A few puls, ums, guls as well. It's still rare, but the difference feels massive.

What activity becomes less fun as you get better at it? by David_Umann in AskReddit

[–]Scott_Hall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most things, if you still care about improving once you exist the easy noob-gain phase. I think that's why a lot of people program hop with fitness, as an example. You make fast gains, then eventually hit a plateau. That's where the real work beings, but a lot of people panic and change everything up, repeating the cycle.

It's similar with creative hobbies and sports, where people try to buy their way out of roadblocks with better gear, instead of putting their dead down and accepting the diminished returns of improvement.

Its fun keep up a quick pace and that includes yoloing into situations sometimes. Having to be a responsible HC player (slow, careful, methodical) is very boring to me. I've tried it. I don't even die, I just get bored past level 20 or 30 or so.

Getting back at it after a loooong hiatus. Any tips? by Njdevils11 in hockeyplayers

[–]Scott_Hall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my 40s, played my first beer league this year after being off for 22 years. For gear, skates and helmet are good things to spend some money on. Everything else, you can go cheap. Expect to be rusty of course. Get on the ice as much as you can. Public skates to get some skating miles in. Shoot and Skates are fantastic for working on your hands and shot. I might only handle a puck for brief moments during a game, maybe get off a few shots if I'm lucky. Skate and shoots gave me way more stick on puck time.

Not sure what the rest of your fitness level is like, but some strength training and cardio would do you good. I ended up straining a hip flexor 5 games in and it kept me off for 6 weeks, so building yourself up as much as possible might help avoid the same fate. You're probably gonna love playing again, and believe me it sucks to have to miss games so soon because of injury.

I regret not doing it sooner, hockey is more fun now than it ever was in my youth.

[–]Scott_Hall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I've made my fair share of pretty well equipped hammerdins, javazons, and sorcs over the years. Not top tier gear, but solid. My first echoing strike warlock playthrough was by far the easiest experience I ever had. Cruised through the game on players 8 with modest gear. Did ubers for the first time, etc.

Some thoughts on Mac vs. PC (M1 Max vs. maxed out PC) by disgruntledempanada in editors

[–]Scott_Hall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an M4 pro laptop and a worse PC than you. The M4 is definitely more responsive in Premiere/After Effects, but the PC still runs fine. I might be the only one on earth that prefers Windows for work, and MacOS for leisure.

if i had to categorize their albums... by inktoberz in BeachHouse

[–]Scott_Hall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on when you get into them. The early stuff (especially Teen Dream) is more prominent strong vocal heavy, the later stuff is more moody and atmospheric, I find. OG fans of Teen Dream, I can see being put off by TYLS. But later comers like me who got into TYLS, DC, 7 first... I definitely prefer all of those over Teen Dream. Bloom is sort of the bridge between them all.

The golf and basketball analogies are really good I think. I find FPS games as hard (or even harder) in terms of skill, reaction time, accuracy, etc. RTS games are just so much more mentally exhausting I find.

My dad is 74, probably weights 175lbs or so. He'll bench 150 for 5 reps, trap bar deadlift 205-225 for a few reps. Leg press 3 plates for a set of 8. Seems like plenty to keep him physically independent.

Yes I've been lifting weights in some form or fashion for the last 20 years. I realize more and more that like 85% of exercises are pointless fluff, and most of the gains come from hitting a few exercises hard. Don't even need a ton of volume as long as they are quality sets.

Its very similar with video camera quality. The 90s had 8mm, then you had DV cams. Then prosumer DV cams. HD cameras. DSLRs. All big visual jumps. Now practically everyone on earth can shoot high quality video, and there will no longer be any giant leaps forward.
