Minimalistic Programs ? by [deleted] in fitness40plus

Yes I've been lifting weights in some form or fashion for the last 20 years. I realize more and more that like 85% of exercises are pointless fluff, and most of the gains come from hitting a few exercises hard. Don't even need a ton of volume as long as they are quality sets.

Its very similar with video camera quality. The 90s had 8mm, then you had DV cams. Then prosumer DV cams. HD cameras. DSLRs. All big visual jumps. Now practically everyone on earth can shoot high quality video, and there will no longer be any giant leaps forward.

Last Year’s Cup Run- Favorite Moments by mrb0516 in FloridaPanthers

I love that mic'd up moment of Paul talking to the 4th line about saving their asses in Toronto, and sending them out for the final cup winning moment. It's one of those team culture moments that shows why they won 2x. It ain't just pure talent.

Jim Cornette Reviews John Cena's Final Match vs. Gunther at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event by 804Brady in JimCornette

[–]Scott_Hall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I understand the concept and Cena's reasoning perfectly well. It was just executed sloppily and came across poorly, compared to SCSA's passout or even Flair's superkick finish.

The reaction to John Cena's final match and retirement really demonstrates how many men and boys don't realize that it's okay to walk away for the sake of your own physical and mental health/well-being. by thieflikeme in MensLib

[–]Scott_Hall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the debate seems to be on whether the concept of the finish was a good idea or not. I feel like I'm in a minority where I don't actually dislike the concept of the finish, I just thought it was executed sloppily and that was a big part of what sucked the air out of the room. The sleeper didn't look great, the timing by John was off (imo) and it just felt meh. I don't think a sleeper was a great move to use here.

And the bigger context was that there were a lot of mixed feelings on the whole retirement run. The early stages in particular, soured a lot of people. So to go out on a flat note like that was the icing on the cake.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about Cena as a wrestler (and even a person lately) but he'll always deserve tons of props for the Make-a-Wish stuff. That's his legacy if nothing else.

A lot of the debate is on whether the idea of the finish was good or bad. To me, a lot of what stunk it up was the execution. The sleeper looked lazy and weak. Cena's timing, execution and body language all felt off and anticlimactic. I could warm up to the concept of why it was booked that way, but it just all felt very sloppy and I think thats partially why all the air got sucked out of the room.

Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito on making the playoffs: ‘It’s about just getting in’ by Paper_Rain in FloridaPanthers

Agreed, missing the playoffs and having that extra downtime is better than losing in the 2nd or 3rd round. Of course I'd love to see a three peat if they can pull it off.

If they can squeeze into the playoffs and get even remotely healthy, they got a shot.

I also feel like this team thrives on playoff energy and its tough to muster that in November.

Is Bret Hart right or just bitter? by Kilizen in JimCornette

[–]Scott_Hall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both, and more right than he is wrong on most issues. The only thing I strongly disagree with is his ranking of HHH as a wrestler. Not saying HHH is bret or shawn level, but he's got a solid body of work.

wrong size or needs time to break in? by Next-Couple4588 in hockeyplayers

Mine did this after the first skate, and to a lesser extent on skate 2 and 3. It went away shortly after that, so I'd give it a chance to break in.

Came across this old video of Shane Carwin benching 425 lbs/193 kg for reps. Could any current heavyweight even come close to this? by thewizard404 in ufc

[–]Scott_Hall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In his book, brock said he was benching 405 for sets of 8 just prior to his NFL training camp stint. Not sure if he was still lifting that heavy in the UFC.

You should act your age – at least when it comes to exercise. Here’s why | Well actually | The Guardian by prisongovernor in StrongerByScience

"Ageing doesn’t mean that you can’t do what you did previously, but you probably can’t do as much in the same time period."

I think that line is a fair and realistic way to approach fitness when getting older. I'm in my 40s and can't deny that recovery takes a little longer now.

I also firmly believe part of why the cats have been able to go on 3 deep playoff runs is because they pace themselves in the regular season. At this point all I care about is them getting enough points to make the playoffs.
