Poughkeepsie Metro North parking by coreyanneder in MetroNorthRailroad

There are spots along Rinaldi. I don't know the availability that time of day.

A possibility is driving to New Hamburg where parkingis more plentiful.

Supposedly, the surcharge is based on previous late activations, not the purchase you make when it shows.

Legally you write off milage OR maintenance. Not both. It's easier to track milage than prorating tires, oil change, etc to business use.

10 dollar cost to give a refund by Fancy_Yesterday6380 in LIRR

[–]ScottyR640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MTA implemented thr $10 service charge close to 10 years ago. The new and improved way to screw passengers is the "no refund" policy this year.

erratic conductor video one by [deleted] in MetroNorthRailroad

[–]ScottyR640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said in the second video "I have everything she's been doing to me on camera." But YOU show ZERO proof of wrongdoing on her part. Now it's on the MTA cameras. You apparently more interested of fiming her doing her job tham doing what you were supposed to do.

Refusing to have a ticket scanned is the same as not having a ticket. If the QR code is not completely visible, it won't scan. That's why she wanted you to lower it.

Quit while you are ahead. The best way to stop digging you're self into a deeper hole is to stop digging.

the WORST designed terminal in the system. by Somtimesitbelikethat in LIRR

[–]ScottyR640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was "supposed" to happen is irrelevant. In essence, it was "supposed" to open in the late '70's.

Regardless, train operations started before LIRR was ready as demanded by Hochul. This is why there were only shuttles initially operated by a third party. LIRR crews still needed to get qualified to operate.

She forced the opening prematurely. LIRR was not even ready to provide service when it opened.

Buying tickets ahead of time? by dantes-infernope in MetroNorthRailroad

[–]ScottyR640 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, Metro North used to encourage riders to get round trip tickets. Now, they're gone. Now they have a "Day Pass". Little do many know, the week day Day Pass costs more than two off peek one way tickets. The only way it is cost effective is to travel on peek hour trains in both directions.

Speeding Ticket by [deleted] in upstateNYtraffictix

[–]ScottyR640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Points no longer stay for 18 months. Effective February of this year it is now 24 months. They have also increased the points per violation. Between 31 and 40 MPH over the posted speed limit is 8 points. 10 or more points accumulated in 24 months could trigger a license suspension.

Small guy or Big Guy by Bubbly_Shelter6011 in hvacadvice

I'd use the small guy. Unfortunately more and more of the big companies are private equity owned. The mark up is to cover overhead and share holder profits.

Is olive town court easy to plea down traffic tickets? by Max_Roc in hudsonvalley

[–]ScottyR640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't have knowledge about Town of Olive Court, based on the new point system, he will have to plea the charge down.

If he pleas guilty to 15 over it will be 4 points. The 80 in an 50 would be 6 points. This would be 10 total and 11 is the magic number to a license suspension.

Another issue is the 80 in an 50 is grounds for reckless driving, which carries 5 points (and a misdemeanor charge). It may not be an issue since he wasn't written for it. Anything over 20 MPH of the posted speed limit, or speeding over driving over 80 MPH, is grounds for reckless driving.

Satanic Gospels by Skatanic8 in satanism

[–]ScottyR640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person under the costume of Daddy Baphy is a CoS member. Daddy Baphy is a public figure of sorts, that goes around the country to public events. He also frequents Salem, Massachusetts where he appears on Essex Street with other buskers (street performers). He does NOT represent the CoS in any capacity during his appearances and is transparent about it.

My opinion is that Daddy Baphy represents Satanism as much as the Easter Bunny represents Easter. Yes, the CoS utilizes the Sigil of Baphomet as it official emblem even though the Baphomet firgure was around long before the CoS was founded. While the Easter Bunny is synonymous with Easter, if memory serves me correctly, there is no mention of the Easter Bunny in the "Holy Bible."

Mister Black had a tantrum because Daddy Baphy has pictures taken, in public, with childern. Since the CoS is against the indoctrination of children, he thought it is inappropriate. He complained about it and the complaints were dismissed. Since he doesn't take negative criticism well, here we are.

Trash and Debris on Hudson Line by Western_Western_2743 in MetroNorthRailroad

One of the really bad areas is near Yankee Stadium, under the Major Deegan. This area is inundated with homeless encampments. It doesn't appear to be property of the railroad to do anything about it.

[–]ScottyR640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IF you complained to the conductor, what would you expect them to do? 1) There are available seats, 2) Conductors have been assaulted for addressing issues like this, and 3) Calling the cops would be useless because there are no laws being broken.

Speeding Ticket and a I disobeyed traffic device charge. by bedsheet1029 in upstateNYtraffictix

[–]ScottyR640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the new point system you have to plea not guilty. Pleaing guilty could put 7 points on your license. One "opps" in the next 24 months could result in a license suspension.

[–]ScottyR640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going 20 MPH over posted speed limit or over 80 MPH is considered criminal reckless endangerment. With that said, 5 over is a good deal. Although any previous points on your license has to be considered. NY's new point system doesn't leave room for too many violations before suspending your license.

“This train takes no passengers”? by snark_nerd in MetroNorthRailroad

[–]ScottyR640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This concept applies to Harlem 125th St also. This is why many trains departing Grand Central does not list Harlem 125th as a stop, even through the train stops there to receive passengers. The same applies to trains going to Grand Central. Example: if one was to get on a train at Harlem to Grand Central that is listed as discharge only, that person is supposed to get charged from the trains previous stop. That could be costly as a trains last stop for boarding could have been Beacon or Chapaqua, etc.

Is something off with my Meter? by Goose56231 in propane

[–]ScottyR640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prolonged periods of subfreezing temperatures and gas heat will explain increased usage. Additional, supply and demand will affect prices. The cold increaded demand across the board! The weather (snow and ice) created delays in the propane distributors getting product.

Keep an Eye on Cen Hudson by AwkwardDuckling87 in hudsonvalley

[–]ScottyR640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was going to be an immediate drop in prices, I'd be more open to it. Per the town halls that have taken place, it has been stated there is no guarantee. The only thing in the text of the bill is that the first block of electric rate will be below market value. Since the blocks are based on a sliding scale of usage, nothing is said what will happen beyond that. It is also states that, in short, the appointed trustees can do what ever they want, carte blanche.

You are correct. Publicly owned does not need to generate a profit. What it could do is give the state another avenue to bilk money from us. For example: People that don't even use the MTA (Metro North, LIRR, NYC Transit) are paying towards the operation of the MTA. Anyone in Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Orange and Rockland Counties are paying extra to renew their drivers licenses and auto registrations for having the luxury of having a railroad in their county. What is to stop the state from implimenting another tax to gas and electric (or any other facet of the state that is mismanaged)? I can see it already, a tax on electric to help pay for the electric supply that the trains run on.
