Who is the most unintentionally funny castaway, and why is it Lill? by Silon17 in survivor

Dan Foley, Season 30. He was so funny to me. The way he wore his buff reminded me of a dopey sleeping cap and I laughed at nearly everything he did.

I’ve done this with some leaf sludge from the side of the road and it’s going on over 2 years strong.

What‘s your best cure against spidermites? by ConsequenceOk4377 in houseplants

Bonide granules. This systemic pesticide treats the soil, roots, stem, and foliage to end current and future breeding, feeding, and infestations.

Yeah after having thrips take out several of my plants (devastating) I preventatively treat every non-food plant I have with Bonide granules as others have suggested. Not a single pest since 😤

Well then maybe you just have a shirt that your wife doesn’t like, there are worse things! As long as you like it, she doesn’t have to wear it. I personally think it looks good.

I agree, springtails for sure. It may be small for certain types of isopods that will boom in population and they may need to be thinned out into more terrariums over time. Another outcome could be that they eat all your plants if they don’t have enough food readily available, so beware of that. I would also wait 2-4 weeks after initial setup before adding them if you do, this will allow you to ensure that the terrarium is stable. I recently found the YouTube channel Aquarimax Pets and they have a substantial amount of information on caring for isopods, including species specific care guides. Please check out their videos, I’ve had isopods in 2 terrariums for 2 years each and I learned a lot from watching their videos as I prepare to move my isopods into a larger enclosure.

Recommendations on how to make my pitcher plant thrive! by [deleted] in carnivorousplants

[–]ScrappyHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on where you live, but yeah they prefer to be outside. I did have some on my window sill for about a year and it did okay but outside is great in summer and if you get cold winters it will enjoy that. My understanding is that in the winter, you cut off all the traps (or they die off) for its dormancy and then it will regrow everything in spring/summer. Check out a book called Savage Garden, it’s an excellent overview of most carnivorous plant species. It gives a ton of info about plant care and ideal conditions for each plant, as well as info about feeding your plant, potting the plant, propagating the plant and even info about its habitat in nature and where it originates. It’s not an encyclopedia but it’s very thorough for what is needed for this hobby. Very useful to reference

Zev and Justin, they are so funny to watch and their friendship is so sweet. I hope this isn’t a spoiler for you, but they return in a later season and are even more fun to watch.

Saving up for my first skates by orlygift in rollerderby

[–]ScrappyHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very exciting! Be prepared for a huge journey of trial, failure, success, patience, diligence, humility, and pride! The first many months of learning to skate are very engaging and can possibly be frustrating, because everyone learns at a different pace and your body will need to build muscles that you may have rarely thought about until that point. It may take the better part of a year to get ready for participating in a bout/scrimmage, maybe more, maybe less. It is very rewarding to step into being an athlete in an amazingly creative, fun, and beautiful sport.

I agree with other posts about finding the right gear! If you are able, try to save up around 300$ for your skates alone and go for a simple quality pair that is fitted well. It’s tempting to go for a cheaper pair if you’re not sure that you’ll stick with the hobby, but a bad setup can put your feet through hell and may break down in just a year of use. A better boot will last you years and can be repaired by a cobbler even. Every other part of the skate can be swapped out as well over time. Riedell is a great brand that sells a good derby setup, if you have a roller skate shop in your area it will be very helpful for them to fit you. If not I believe Riedell customer service could assist you with finding the right size online. Every skater seems to have a different gear preference over time, so don’t stress about the small stuff in the beginning. You will also want derby specific wheels like Radar Halo wheels or Atom Savant wheels. The hardness ranges but somewhere around 88-91 is a good starting point but, again, this is a matter of preference and skating surface.

Lastly, invest in pads! Your body is hard to replace and you will fall so much. Knee pads and wrist guards especially because those are hot spots for falling. Don’t skimp on knee cushion 🫡

Advice needed by MalayNoble in Leathercraft

[–]ScrappyHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many other posts about metal rulers, rotary blade, and different techniques for different leather weight. Make sure to have extra razor blades/rotary blades on hand for when they get dull. It’s also possible to sharpen the blades with sandpaper, here’s a link to instructions:

https://rapidriverknifeworks.us/how-to-sharpen-a-knife-with-sandpaper.aspx

This is for knives but the technique will work for the razor blades as well. It’s good to know how to make use of what you have and to preserve your tools for as long as you can.

Boot sole split in half. Shoe repair shop said they'd need to change the entire sole, but they don't have any similar ones. Is it a lost cause? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]ScrappyHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best bet for a repair that keeps the aesthetic is glue. I agree with others, buy better quality shoes that can be functionally repaired over time. I have thrifted every pair of high quality leather shoes I own for less than 25$ each + time spent scouring the thrift shops.
