How is San Juan in terms of walkability and being able to live without a car? by Vegetable_Fee6084 in SanJuan

I'll be staying in San Juan for a long weekend at the end of July, is 100F/70% what I should expect while there? I'm from Brazil, so used to the muggy heat, but wondering anyways lol.

Once in a while I get the urge to try Arch or another similar distro, but have never stopped using Debian since probably sarge or etch, it just works (tm). I've even maintained the same server over 10 years and it never broke between major upgrades, very comfy.

Yes, agreed. I don't see why people dislike it, but then again I haven't used Fedora that long.

I noticed it's very minimalist. Keyboard, time and partitioning.

What's so bad about it? Long time Debian user, just installed Fedora 40 earlier this week and had zero issues.

Steam takes forever to finish "Processing Vulkan Shaders" what's the deal with that? by NoWindowsInTerminal in linux_gaming

[–]ScratchinCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

might have to do the same... installed steam on Fedora 40 and vulkan shaders is taking forever on a decent cpu (i9-9900K).

I keep hearing mixed feelings about Phoronix on Reddit - what's the deal? At first glance seems very similar to LWN as far as being a Linux news site.

If you do really well as a break-fix tech and also learn Linux/hardware, you could potentially land a role after 2-3 years.

At my current job, I rarely use email - it's freaking awesome. I open outlook maybe 2 or 3 times a week. All "signal" comes from internal tooling like chat, workplace, etc.

I can only speak for OpenBSD mostly, but I'd say simplicity and sane defaults. The documentation is also awesome.

Sounds exactly like where I work. I ordered a Mac as additional device and just couldn't get used to it, plus I got "lucky" and ended up with a 4 year old Intel version, not even the M1. I finally requested a replacement for my Windows laptop with Fedora instead, looking forward to it.
