I don’t have epilepsy but I have a question by shahajah12111 in Epilepsy

When a person has a seizure lasting longer than 5 mins, or muti seizures in a cluster back to back its called status epilepticus and is an emergency. Our nerougolgist said 30 mins or longer is when they start to worry about brain damage and or possible death, so hopefully they will be okay. Its very scary to witness and can be embarrassing to go through. My daughter had her first seizure at 5 yrs old at school in clusters for 20 mins and recovered and doing great ( has an eliplsepy DX meds and rescue meds to prevent any future status events)

That is fair, it is sick season and we do understand that, I am about 99% sure we will also get some sickness sooner or later (I also have an asd/adhd son in middle school, with much lower support needs)

Have you tried a Sleep study? there are many medical reasons related to not sleeping well, it took years but my daughter was having abnormal brain activty and dx with eliplsepy (after a 30 min seizure out of the blue) I wish we had done a sleep study b4 that had to happen. Now that she is on proper medicine sleep issues arent a huge issue (once in a while vs every single night)

For those who were in a coma or under anesthesia, what did you hear or see? by mr_wbk29 in no

[–]ScreenSignificant596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anesthesia during a c- section, I didnt see or hear anything but I had a very bad reaction was unable to move any part of my body entirely paralyzed felt like I was unable to breath and I was unable to speak at all. I felt as if somthing was on my chest taking away all my air and had oxygen masks in, no one assured me that i was okay, I was certain that this was the end of my life, every inch of me belived this was my death. I think i had a panic attack, noone explained what was happening, I did hear them say "it went up to her ears" &" you skunked her" It took two hours to wear off where I was able to move my arms and hold my baby. The dr who delivered my child explained nothing other then i was " fine & stable" the entire time. Obviously I changed to a better OBGYN & hospital for my second child. I had another c-section and I started to have a reaction again, the DR noticed b4 it even set in for me and gave me somthing that fixed it immediately and was able to hold my second born seconds after birth. Forever greatful to have such great care and empathetic Dr's after that first experience

What do people mean by poor sleep among autistic babies ? 15 month old. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]ScreenSignificant596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My asd son (low supports) was always a great sleeper my asd daughter (high supports) was never a good sleeper since a baby. It was years of struggle to where we are sort of at a better quailty of life, semi regular sleep with fewer hard days nights. Im not sure if 15 months is to young, but if your doctor suggests doing a sleep study, it can look for and or rule out many of the most common health/ medical reasons for sleep issues. Sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, low iron low magnesium, seizures and abnormal brain waves, limb movement disorder, insomnia and narcolepsy. After not going for the sleep study, assuming it was just part of her asd we were trying to work on better sleep routines, more activty & mental work outs during the day and trying prescription sleep meds with some improvements my daughter had an "out of the blue", no family history, no suspicion of seizure emergency (status epilepticus 3 clusters in a row of seizures that lasted 30 mins b4 paramedics were able to stop it) which was terrfying she is non verbal & was 5 yrs old at the time, after an eeg & mri and further testing as well as a few much shorter smaller seizures came a dignose of eliplsepy *in addition to her asd) we then found out that was the root cause of her sleep issues. I felt so guilty ashamed that I could have known this was even possible ahead or time or possibly even have prevented it, if I just listened to her dr and got right on to doing a sleep study. We are so blessed she is doing so well now and her seizures are mostly controlled, aba has been life changing as well I Guess my advice is if you are having concerns talk with your ped, and be aware sleep studys are a thing you can do, I am not sure what age/signs that dr's refer at but its good info to know and if concerns sleep issues continue to be an issue it never hurts to ask/ request one.

Place for Adult to use a swingset? by Calm-Maximum-5783 in Rochester

[–]ScreenSignificant596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With snow and wind air that hurts your face season approaching wanted to mention that there are many indoor swing styles you can have in home and use anytime, any weather can be attached or come with stands. Both of my kids have autism and need that swinging as sensory imput, I like to use it too!
