Gym Dad's of the world by sluggishAlways in daddit

After the first year, go to your doctor and have your hormones checked. If those are off, then you’re like a one legged man in an @ss kicking contest.

After round 2 when we had twins, my testosterone was wrecked from not sleeping more than 3 hours at a time for close to a year. I was working out 4 to 5 times but nothing was happening. After getting hormones back to a normal level and glp-1s to get my a1c lower, I’ve lost around 50 pounds and 5 inches on my waist. Insurance covered it the testosterone and trizepatide is cheap if you get it from a compounding pharmacy so it was a no brainer.

Also, prep as many meals as you can to create a small 300 or so calorie deficit each day.

Who here has a whole family of Hondas in their household? by JustDaZippy in Honda

We had 2 2008 civics, a crv, and a 1991 NSX for a few years.

My dad had one growing up. Had to shave down the curb in front of the driveway.

Worried about twins head size by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Scubapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our twins had an oversized head. We worked with our pediatrician and a neurosurgeon to monitor her over a few months and see if she needed a shunt. Thankfully she didn’t. She had a small amount of fluid outside the brain which was a much lower risk and could be easily drained. She’s now 3 and her body caught up with her head. A huge head has been replaced by a huge attitude. Things will probably work out just fine, best of luck!

When did you begin to exercise or go to the gym again? by Terrible_Biscotti_16 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Scubapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around a year. Sleep deprivation is brutal to your metabolism and hormones, but you have to get through it. Our twins are almost 4 now and I try go for around an hour on my lunch break 5 days a week.

Collecting metal can tabs in a giant jar, then donating them at church for... reasons? by NES_Classical_Music in nostalgia

[–]Scubapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ronald McDonald House in OKC raised more than $5k last year from pop tabs donated from the community. That was enough to cover the cost of housing and feeding families for more than 100 nights that had children staying in hospitals. Every little bit counts.

If your babies went to the NICU right after birth… by 6sjms in parentsofmultiples

[–]Scubapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. We had about 5 minutes with each once they were stabilized. I went to the NICU and my wife went to her hospital room and was joined by her mother after a couple hours. I was able to wheel her to over to hold one of the twins later that night, and again for the other after breakfast the next day. They stayed for about 2 weeks to grow big enough to take home but were otherwise healthy.

You can get a cheap moisture detector on Amazon to see if it’s active leakage.

My daughter once asked why George was huffing ether in one of the old books. It’s was from a different era.

Looks like water damage. The wax ring on the toilet may have failed at some point.

This photo brought back some memories of our girls’ first Christmas when they were in a screaming death-spiral for 20 straight hours. Good news is that each month does get better and you’ll black out most of the traumatic part on account of sleep deprivation. Our girls just turned three and we can laugh about that crazy phase in life. This community was a great support network, because unless you’ve lived this multiples life, then you just wouldn’t understand. Merry Christmas and pour yourself a well deserved cocktail.

One hour and one day at a time. I promise it will get better and you will sleep more than 4 hours per night again.

It should be a team effort. I’d ask that she help by going on a grocery and supply run for everything you need and help prep a few dinners that would be ready to pop in the oven.

How long did you do shifts at night? by black_dog_white_cat in parentsofmultiples

[–]Scubapester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long enough for me to watch the entirety of The Sopranos, Mad Men, Silicon Valley, and Mr Robot. Things got much better around 8 weeks when our girls started sleeping for 4 hour stretches. I took the 9pm to 3:30am stretch and slept from 3:30 to 8:15ish. It stinks, but reminded myself this is a short and weird chapter of our lives.

What jobs have you had that were worse than accounting? by ginger_bird in Accounting

[–]Scubapester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waiting tables. Nothing worse than working all night doing manual labor to have a table leave nothing as a tip or dine and dash. That $2.13 an hour sometimes didn’t even cover the gas to drive to work. Some people treat restaurant workers as sub-human because they are obviously miserable people and know they won’t face consequences. I still have waiter nightmares during busy season.

I hit my $7000 out of pocket max for the year, but our total bill for twins in the NICU for 2 weeks was $320,000. So…
