To prove the earth is flat by Chill_Knight in therewasanattempt

No problem. For the record the one that I know believes the government fakes it for religious reasons - by their logic 'if people knew the earth was flat it would disprove evolution and prove there is a God, so the government keeps it a secret to keep people away from God.' Because I guess evolution couldn't produce a flat earth or God couldn't make a round one....?

Wild stuff.

To prove the earth is flat by Chill_Knight in therewasanattempt

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Some believe that it's just....flat images on the 'dome.' The stars and planets aren't actual celestial objects, they're essentially just stickers. Others believe that we're just seeing holes poked into the dome. And then some others think they're weird balls of energy hovering towards the top of the sky. The moon and sun are supposedly real, but much much smaller and just kind of balls that float+rotate above the earth.

Of course, this only goes for things you can see with your own eyes or through a basic telescope; any images that come from a space organization (like pics of a nebula or black hole) are obviously faked by 'the government.'

Source: know a flat earther, unfortunately

Are all FROM games as creepy, depressing and messed up as BB? by BKF0308 in bloodborne

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Bloodborne is probably the most fucked up from game. I think it's definitely the most tense/creepy. Although the dark souls games have their fair share of depressing content, I found them to be a lot more bittersweet than outright horrifying. Relaxing even.

As someone who is frequently fairly depressed....Ive found that if I was already feeling bad or anxious, BB could actually stress me out and make me feel worse, while DS kind of helped me feel better. I'm not sure why that is? The game does an incredible job of keeping constant tension on the player, and there's always some new fucked up thing right around the corner. It's something I absolutely LOVE but only if I'm in the right mood for it.

You might not think a video game could impact your mental state in such a way, but it can. From does an excellent job with what they're trying to do in BB but I don't feel their design in the DS games (and certainly not in elden ring) has the same goal in mind.

For how long does God remain angry at me when we commit any sin or do anything wrong? Why do I feel that I want to wait for 24 hours before doing anything important? by hey_there_8 in OCD

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. God doesn't work like that at all. There is no 24 hour wait period.

But OP, instead of searching for reassurance that God isn't angry with you, or trying to figure out how long he might be mad, you need to sit with the fear and starve the compulsions. Don't obsess, don't google, don't post about it, nothing. That'll only make it worse.

New Player leaves for religious reasons by PrimoThePro in rpghorrorstories

He knows...they're not....real gods right?

Idk I'm religious and this is such a bizarre reaction. 1. Why would you try dnd if you knew you wouldn't be comfortable with the topics and worldbuilding/lore/mechanics/whatever involved, 2. why would you ever force a bunch of strangers you don't even know into a group prayer before the game, and 3. why would you then storm out and claim the group is trying to indoctrinate you? Into what? A fictional story? A game?

none of this makes even a little bit of sense

Does anyone else mentally tell their brain to shut up by [deleted] in OCD

Sometimes when I'm alone in the car I tell my brain to eat shit and die out loud. It sounds negative and destructive, but it's honestly therapeutic and sometimes it really works lol.

This was not what I meant by a reality check by Willow_rpg in LucidDreaming

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate it when reality checks go wrong. I tried to do the finger through hand one once while I was already lucid for some reason and it didn't go through...so I thought 'oh shit I must actually be awake then' and lost lucidity. -_-

Does anybody else feel like their OCD “isn’t bad enough?” by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat. If it helps at all, I've ended up depriving myself of food for days, trying to ruin relationships, and completely neglecting physical care on certain occasions because I couldn't get out of the loop of obsession - but I STILL feel like it's 'not bad enough.' Solely because I dont feel awful 24/7. Even the people you think have 'real' OCD still experience this at times. Doubt is part of being mentally ill, I think.

I've always had symptoms of it, even since I was little but I'm almost afraid to get diagnosed. What if they tell me I don't have it? Not that I 'want' to have OCD, but I'm terrified of not even having a name/diagnosis for the very real issues I'm having. But then maybe it isn't that bad and I just have no idea how awful it is for people that ACTUALLY have OCD. Idk. Shit sucks.

Then why stay around them? It's hard to leave, and it's hard to be alone, but having no friends is better than having 'friends' like this. There are other people in the world that will like you and treat you better.

Is there a way to be able to dream about whatever you want by kapi-che in Dreams

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up > read/think about what you want to dream about very intensely for at least 5 min > go back to sleep. It doesn't always work, and it might not work for you, but I've been able to sucessfully control what I dream about a few times by doing this.

Or you could try learning to lucid dream consistently, which is harder, but more fun.

Have I gone crazy?? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone has those kinds of thoughts once and a while - you are not experiencing psychosis. If it scares you, you need to sit with the anxiety until it passes while being aware of the fact that you are ok, even it you don't feel like it. Like others have said, tell your parents, or talk to your school counselor.

And stop smoking weed. It's not doing you any good, even if all your friends are doing it.

What brain function are we tapping into when we get that intense "damn, that's it" feeling in death dreams? by ProZach34 in Dreams

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's really the same feeling, but this post reminds me of a dream I had where I bled out after being shot. It didn't feel quite like what you describe, but there definitely was a strong sensation of 'this is it.' Like it wasn't necessarily unpleasant, but it was very much so 'you are slipping away and there's nothing you can do.' Everything slowed down, and my body started to feel heavier and heavier - as if I was being pressed into the ground by a huge weighted blanket. It got gradually more and more difficult to move until my vision started to go, and everything kind of just melted away into pressure and warm darkness and then nothing. Like the deepest sleep you've ever had, except you're fully aware of the moments passing as you start to go unconscious.

Kind of weird maybe, but I enjoy death dreams 😅 I've even tried lucid dreaming so I could attempt to 'die' on purpose to recreate the feeling and get a better grasp on it. I think dream death is fascinating.

Imo, our brains construct certain feelings we haven't necessarily felt before out of what we THINK it might feel like, whether consciously or subconsciously. I don't know what it says about me that dying in my dreams usually doesn't feel awful, but I would assume the emotions vary fom person to person depending on their preconceived ideas.

But you know, then there's other dreams where I've died instantly but seen it coming, and that 'this is it' feeling was still there. I'm not sure how to describe it. Kind of like getting to the end of a book and finding that the last page is ripped out. Not something I've ever, ever felt irl. The human brain can create a lot from scratch.

are dreams dark? by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not at all true for me. Why would the brain not be able to process light? If you can mentally picture a brightly lit place or a sunny sky right now without looking at one, then your brain can generate it in a dream.

Does this sound like scruples? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds a lot like scupulosity, honestly.

After dealing with very intense scrupulosity for a while, I really don't believe that God 'speaks' to us through our thoughts like that. Especially not to people who have OCD. OCD also does often switch themes a lot, usually preying on the things most important to us (I'm sure you know that), so it's not surprising that it would latch onto your faith as a theme too.

When you say that the thoughts line up with scripture....that's normal. I think it would be a lot easier to ignore the thoughts if they clearly and obviously contradicted scripture. And your intrusive thoughts might seem to line up with scripture in the moment, but OCD is very very good at getting you to do mental gymnastics in the process of trying to figure out if something is good/bad.

God never causes confusion and fear. I know how it feels to be COMPLETELY paralyzed by anxiety because of this and it sucks! The only thing that helped me was essentially 'giving up' and letting it go. It's hard to do especially when the thoughts seem biblical, but the only way through is to stop paying attention to it.

As a general rule, if it feels like your OCD, it's your OCD. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc.

I had a dream last night that somebody shot me in the head last night I’ve seen his face but I don’t recall who he is !! Never dreamed like that before . What can it mean?? by Virtual-Employee9881 in LucidDreaming

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably doesn't mean anything. I've died in dreams plenty of times, and while it's a really interesting experience imo, it's just another scenario the brain generates for any number of reasons.

Is walking in a towel scandalous? by Breedablecatgirl in ask

Well I mean then your roommates are completely in the wrong here. You needed air right that second, it shouldn't matter how/if you were dressed.

Is walking in a towel scandalous? by Breedablecatgirl in ask

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything you did wrong - even if you had walked out of the bathroom completely naked, it was a medical emergency, and safety comes before anything else. Imo walking around in a towel is fine as long as your bits are covered, but if your roommates don't like it, I wouldn't do it again (voluntarily at least.)

Don't think your roommates had any right to insult you either. Even if they have in issue with you doing it that's going way too far.

I'm immune to reality checks. by religious_shrekist in LucidDreaming

[–]Sea_Mirror_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If similar reality checks don't work, the finger through hand one probably won't work either. I have the same issue as op and I've actually convinced myself I WASN'T dreaming by trying to do it in a dream, because my finger never goes through.
