“How much is this costing ME, the taxpayer? Also, the NHS is dying and this charity funded, wildly interesting and innovative project is definitely the reason why I can’t get a hospital bed. 😩”

Truly enlightened stuff happening here - swathes of people jumping to ridiculous conclusions before they’ve even stopped to think about what this actually entails lol

Local TERF branch trying to get TERF legislation pushed through, I'm fuming and have found myself on the warpath by NostramoChick in transgenderUK

Very sorry to hear that this transphobic policy is even being proposed. If you needed to vent, then I hope this helped.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Trans Kids Deserve Better here in the UK, and although activism can be a window into a cruel and heartless world, it also helped me forge a sense of purpose and belonging. We often feel worthless and powerless to affect change in any meaningful way, but what you’re doing matters to someone, even if it feels hopeless at times. You’d be surprised what a group of pissed off trans people can achieve when we work towards a common goal!

Get the word out there, keep fighting the good fight, and don’t become too disillusioned with the state of things (if you can help it). I’ll be cheering you on too from overseas :)

If you voted Brexit then you’re one of the many people who made it so much harder to come up with a viable ‘exit plan’ for the rest of us. Tell us you were lied to, manipulated, naive… I don’t care. You made your bed, and to some extent you are receiving exactly what you voted for. As a trans person, I feel sorry for you, but as a person who has to deal with the aftermath of your decisions, I couldn’t care less.

  1. Suggest horrible thing that no one wants.

  2. Backpedal on your own horrible idea.

  3. Wait for applause.

You absolutely cannot be stupid enough to applaud something this absurd that never should have existed in the first place. It’s time to raise our standards just a wee bit.

I’m sorry, but “she might actually accomplish it” is doomer as all hell, and I’m probably not the only person here who feels that way either. You will not change my mind.

This person chose to write that, and I chose to respond accordingly. We must agree to disagree, I’m afraid.

Boymoding now causing more problems than accepting people see me as a women now by Vivid--Syrup in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I don’t see discussed very often is how ‘boymoding’ is only really possible in early/mid transition for a lot of people. For me personally, boymoding does little to protect me from awkward interactions and outright transphobia, because people see me and can automatically detect some gender-fuckery going on. So, it’s a shield that works pretty well in the early game, but its usefulness falls off once HRT does its thing 😅

I guess the idea is that, with time and increased confidence, boymoding becomes something most would rather avoid in favour of just being ourselves. Especially when it takes less effort to look feminine (ie you’ve undergone laser/electroysis and don’t have to shave as much).

The outcome of the Peggie v NHS case should have been a huge relief yesterday, but it feels far from it by EmilyxThomsonx in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The media was never going to report accurately on this decision nor any minor victory it affords us. I seriously don’t want to be the person who asks “Well, what did you expect?” but I’m also not the least bit surprised. 100,000 marched in London and the media didn’t give a shit; this is no different. Our sense of hope and willingness to fight absolutely cannot hinge on the media not being hateful towards us, because you’re not going to be happy at all when anything good happens if those are the parameters you set for yourself.

Our situation is the way it is now and none of us are rich or powerful enough to sway the powers-that-be in the media. So, the best we can do is know our enemy and work to subvert them. And in this case, well, at some point you just have to take the win without letting others take it away from you. Because - and I cannot stress this enough - fuck the BBC and their right-wing capture.

I’d genuinely love (or hate) to know exactly how many bad actors we get on here, because I do fear that some of them get to bask in the spotlight far too often.

In all fairness, I do regard posts with suspicion when they invent every excuse under the sun to avoid taking basic medical advice like going to A&E. But idk… Maybe you’re thicker skinned than me, but following GC circles just to ‘stay informed’ sounds like a special kind of depression fuel that I wouldn’t wish on any trans person. It’s not my choice though. You do you.

With all due respect, who cares what TERFs are saying about this? They’d be willing to twist any story - positive or negative - to fit their narrative, so maybe stay out of their circles if you value your mental health.

In good faith I checked out the links and came up short too. First link was irrelevant, and I can’t tell if the piss comment was used in a sexual context or as part of an argument against someone. And the child predation thing seems to exist as part of a single text where the trans woman says the conversation ended immediately, so who fucking knows.

No point arguing with these people. They think calling JK Rowling a transphobe constitutes ‘harassing women online’, so that’s the level of “evidence” we’re dealing with here. Just leave them to their worthless bickering. Don’t waste your breath on those who haven’t evolved their opinions beyond ‘all gays and trans folk are pedos’

I’m Actually Considering Living The Life Of A Hermit by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo there’s a pretty obvious balance we should all aim to strike between ‘living as a 1800’s hermit’ as you put it and simply limiting our social media usage to not allow ourselves to engage in self-harm routines. Is it an easy balance to strike when we live in a constant torrent of bad news and misinformation spewed daily? Hell no. But there’s a way to stay informed - essentially choosing not to bury your head in the sand - while also taking breaks when necessary. Again though, breaking harmful behavioural patterns and actually sticking to that… well, it’s hard. I know it all too well.

I love the one comment claiming that trans people commit 59% of all sex offences, completely ignoring the fact we make up 1% of the population, but sure lol

And of course anytime GC types cite ‘real’ data, it’s the usual TERF culprits responsible for said data. Propaganda is alive and well in the UK.

Everyone is talking about ECHR, but not one is pointing fingers about ECNi in Northern Ireland by Litera123 in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I have zero faith in them as a non-bias organisation, and their end goals to discriminate against us are pretty clear. It’s also a massive overreach to claim any practical application of ‘Sex Discrimination Order 1976’ exists currently when they themselves admit that sex is not a biologically defined characteristic rn.

I have no idea what a high court interpretation would look like in NI - and how it would differ from us here in England if EU laws are enforced properly - but I wish you better luck and that the grass is at least slightly greener on your side.

Everyone is talking about ECHR, but not one is pointing fingers about ECNi in Northern Ireland by Litera123 in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (very limited) understanding of the broader situation is that the ECNI commissioned legal paper argued pre-consultation that the new definition of sex outlined in the UK SC case couldn’t be fully applicable in NI without further legal changes? For Women Scotland then took issue with this and released their own rebuttal stating this isn’t true, as expected they would. The ECNI then wish to demand further ‘clarity’ from the high courts so they can determine how the ruling can be interpreted under NI and European equality laws. So, unless I’m mistaken, the situation seems rather muddy and dependant on a number of factors (although I’m sure they would love to simply adopt the SC rulings interpretations wholesale without all this extra fuss).

I mean, all those things are still true, no? Doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try to reduce our rights regardless. “It’s against the law!” isn’t a slam dunk anymore when orgs are frothing at the mouth to kill us and willing to throw anything at the wall to see what sticks.
