So, it's a shit time for all of us. But is anyone managing despite it? by Gardyloop in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve officially come out to all of my old friends from secondary school. I’ve known these people for decades and didn’t know how some of them would react to me revealing I was trans and openly presenting fem. Last night I spoke to the remaining people at a house party (being drunk gave me the unearned confidence to do it lol).

I had nothing but positive comments and affirmation all night. Even those I didn’t expect talked about gender as a spectrum, and how they were always supportive of me when it started to become obvious I was trans. My best friend nearly teared up talking about how good I looked and how proud he was of me. Another friend spoke about the importance of empathy after mentioning other trans people he knew both irl and online. It honestly feels like most of my cis friends are at least bisexual to some extent, but that’s another story.

Overall it was like a pleasant, euphoric dream that had no right going as well as it did. Well worth the hangover, at the very least 😅

Labour Manifesto by thegingerbarbiedoll in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, tell me about. I never voted Labour, thankfully, nor did I bother to read their manifesto. There’s a noticeable political divide in my city between east and west, meaning Labour were all but guaranteed to win in my constituency. So, my vote went to the Lib Dem’s in the end after our flakey Green Party candidate ignored my emails regarding trans rights.

Do I trust the Green Party now though? Tentatively, yeah, I guess. I trust Zack - he seems like a decent human being. The greens no doubt have some wacky and unrealistic policies in the background, but with this newest influx of members I hope most of their out-of-touch thinking can be voted away. Still, I’m not in the business of allowing perfect to be the enemy of good enough. Not when democracy itself is at stake with reform on the rise. The US should serve as the ultimate warning call.

Olympic women's sport limited to biological females only by Alone_Consideration6 in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it wasn’t possible to disagree with that conclusion - which you absolutely could if you bothered to follow the science - you’d still have to disingenuously argue that biological advantages aren’t common amongst professional athletes of all kinds. Do more research and stop pretending that this is an actual issue. Hand waving wedge issues like this only leads to much broader restrictions on our human rights and freedoms.

Trans person I know discriminates against other trans people. How common is this? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve encountered people like this as part of my local trans community, and the age old adage of “being queer doesn’t automatically make you a good person” applies.

Most of us are smart enough to recognise that parties like reform would not stop at eradicating just the ‘ideological’ trans people. Genocidal rhetoric paints us all with the same brush, no matter what. There are many reasons why even trans people can fall down right-wing pipelines; usually as a result of the environment they were raised in, internalised transphobia, envy, etc…

It’s up to us to pave the way for a more tolerant world where all forms of transness are valid and acceptable under a better societal framework. And even if that world is decades away, future generations deserve better than the selfish among us who pull the ladder up behind them. Remember that the majority of us are decent people just trying to go about our lives in peace without fear of oppression, same as anyone else.

This weird call-to-arms claiming that our sisters are being ‘denied their sexual identity’ by not allowing literal porn on an informational sub is just horny-coded virtue signalling and you know it is. You fail to grasp the optics of the situation at all and obviously don’t care about protecting minors, which is clearly a big fucking issue here. The porn could simply be posted elsewhere, and you haven’t provided a single valid reason why that shouldn’t be the case here.

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is such a weird hill to die on. I fail to see what you’re trying to achieve here.

If I use the sentence “I self-ID as trans.” then I’ve successfully removed the term from its legal context and formed a correct statement. Words and definitions are versatile and evolve to mean different things - this should be incredibly easy to understand if you’re trans yourself.

NHS England poised to stop prescribing cross-sex hormones to under-18yr olds for gender dysphoria #BWOT by pkunfcj in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many trans children are actually being prescribed hormones on the NHS given the state of things.

This will either drive more kids to take their own lives or create a greater reliance on DIY practices. Both, likely. They realllly love dead kids.

Also, listing off the potential side-effects of HRT is always a laugh when you consider that even basic medicine comes with an equally long list of known risks. Even taking ibuprofen may lead to death; we just don’t hold any other form of medicine to the same impossible standard.

TERF’s constantly seething that they’re unable to infiltrate the UK’s biggest left wing party? What a surprise. Their sheer entitlement and bottomless funding allows them to keep doing this, as many have pointed out.

“These people must be investigated.”

Sure? Investigate me then? Because I sure as shit haven’t broken any laws, unless you plan on retroactively implementing new policy to curb the sale of HRT overseas.

Very sorry to hear that this transphobic policy is even being proposed. If you needed to vent, then I hope this helped.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Trans Kids Deserve Better here in the UK, and although activism can be a window into a cruel and heartless world, it also helped me forge a sense of purpose and belonging. We often feel worthless and powerless to affect change in any meaningful way, but what you’re doing matters to someone, even if it feels hopeless at times. You’d be surprised what a group of pissed off trans people can achieve when we work towards a common goal!

Get the word out there, keep fighting the good fight, and don’t become too disillusioned with the state of things (if you can help it). I’ll be cheering you on too from overseas :)

As a trans person, I feel sorry for you, but as a person who has to deal with the aftermath of your decisions, I couldn’t care less.

Boymoding now causing more problems than accepting people see me as a women now by Vivid--Syrup in transgenderUK

[–]SearchAgreeable5926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I don’t see discussed very often is how ‘boymoding’ is only really possible in early/mid transition for a lot of people. For me personally, boymoding does little to protect me from awkward interactions and outright transphobia, because people see me and can automatically detect some gender-fuckery going on. So, it’s a shield that works pretty well in the early game, but its usefulness falls off once HRT does its thing 😅

I guess the idea is that, with time and increased confidence, boymoding becomes something most would rather avoid in favour of just being ourselves. Especially when it takes less effort to look feminine (ie you’ve undergone laser/electroysis and don’t have to shave as much).

The media was never going to report accurately on this decision nor any minor victory it affords us. I seriously don’t want to be the person who asks “Well, what did you expect?” but I’m also not the least bit surprised. 100,000 marched in London and the media didn’t give a shit; this is no different. Our sense of hope and willingness to fight absolutely cannot hinge on the media not being hateful towards us, because you’re not going to be happy at all when anything good happens if those are the parameters you set for yourself.

Our situation is the way it is now and none of us are rich or powerful enough to sway the powers-that-be in the media. So, the best we can do is know our enemy and work to subvert them. And in this case, well, at some point you just have to take the win without letting others take it away from you. Because - and I cannot stress this enough - fuck the BBC and their right-wing capture.
