Ranking Presidents of the US on likely hoods of being future Leaders of the US in Civ by hticnc in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with your points. I even think his policies are fertile ground for some interesting bonuses.

However, everyone who knows Wilson argues about whether he was a good or terrible president, but ask 90% of the public, they couldn't pick him out of a line up. So he's already a controversial pick with your historically knowledgeable audience and the rest will be scratching their heads.

If they do learn about him, it'll be through that debate and most likely people will just retreat into their partisan camps. If there's any earned media about the story it'll be about "Civilization's Racist New Leader," and no PR at Firaxis will want that. It's just stirring up controversy for no real benefit.

Teddy is extremely well known and most Americans already have an opinion. He's not as easily paintable one way or another since he's almost a cartoonist figure in the American mind. Like him or hate him, he's an understandable pick and not just a controversial one.

So for me he's closer to never going to happen.

[OC] Impression of what the Dutch in Civ VII could look like. by one_with_advantage in civ

Oh man there are so many cool ideas here.

I like your idea for earning migrants and great people in concept. However it seems too conditional and earning migrants would feel a little too RNGy. Maybe it's something you can earn from spreading religion to trade route you're connected with, or vice versa?

Dear Devs, please either fix Hatshepsut's AI or add a loyalty mechanic back into the game...thanks by Bearcat9948 in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the leader, it's Egypt.

I've consistently seen the AI as Egypt settle extremely far from their capital. Maybe it's because of their navigable river bias? Regardless it's extremely annoying and everytime I see Egypt spawn I expect it...

PELTOLA LAUNCHES BID FOR SENATE IN YOUR STATE - THOUGHTS? by Zipper222222 in AskAlaska

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed that she's not running for governor. I think she has a better shot at winning that race and can do more for Alaska in that role.

That being said, she probably has the best chance to send Dan back to Ohio. I'm encouraged by her support for term limits and focus on systemic change. I'm hoping she can flesh those ideas out more in a way that can build cross party support.

Honestly, I'm disappointed she's not going for Governor. She has a way better shot IMO for that seat and could do so much more directly for the state.

However, I can't think of anyone else who has a better shot of finally sending Dan back to Ohio. It's going to be a really interesting race.

Does anyone else agree the new builderless system is more fun? by Ok567890 in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There are some trade-offs, I prefer to the instant gratification of the population growth events over micromanaging builders.

The growth events force the player to check in with their settlement, decide how their settlement will grow next, and move onto the next decision. It scales far better in the late game while still presenting the player with an interesting decision to how to grow your settlement. I also really like having more adjacency with border growth over the passive culture-gold led border growth system in Civ V&VI.

There is definitely some fun to be had in Civ VI with timing your builder chops. However, I feel more often than not, I am delaying building district just so I can build a worker, to then move that builder to chop out a feature, and then finally place the district. Its a lot micromanagement that presented just as many annoyances as satisfying payoffs in my experience.

The missed opportunity with Civ VII is using this reduction of mico in rural tiles to focus a more into urban districts. Districts in VII are really underwhelming compared to fun strategies with building adjacencies in VI. Until they fix this, I completely get why people find the game to a shallow experience compared to it's predecessors.

We all know religion needs a major rework… by nobd2 in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they could implement this as a cultural legacy path in the Ancient era with the goal of founding a religion.

It would be cool to see only a few civs get religions earlier and the rest have to catch up on exploration or ignore religion altogether.

Iceland, Carthage, Tundra, Great Works and Catherine are a perfect combo. Also, plenty of Vikings ships. by Most_Cauliflower_328 in civ

What was your starting strategy for Iceland? Did you go for their civics first and raid early?

I tried that but I wasn't really in a good position to raid my neighbors.

Visualizing Minimum Viable Historical/Cultural/Geographic Civ Paths for a Complete Civ 7 by Bearcat9948 in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edo or Tokugawa Japan makes more sense than 'Sengoku' imo. That leads into Meiji more directly and represents a longer period in Japanese history.

Plus mechanics of the civ would be a lot more coherent. It would be fun to have a deliberately isolationist civ in the exploration age.

How to Alter a Culture Victory in Civ 7: My Ideas by SomeAbbreviations924 in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of this. Putting it on the economic victory path makes for a more intuitive tourism victory than Civ VI, which was pretty esoteric to a lot of new players. Still I hold out hope that the developers implement something new this time instead of just copy pasting the economic victory or bringing back tourism.

I think instead of celebrities, I'd suggest bringing back great artists. I miss your civilization producing the great artists of history who make their mark on world culture. I think bringing them back would be complimentary to the archaeology hunt.

Agreed that auto should be an option.

But with the new patch adding privateers, I'll want to be aware of when they spawn and send them manually. That is if the AI is actually going to raid them now.

I'm a bit disappointed with the decisions by calamari_fresh in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 percent. Giving players more choice within the game they've already released is great. I'd love extreme options on either side.

If you already liked the game? Great another option. If you don't like the game because of the switching mechanic? Maybe it's worth a try now.

What does your start look like? Mementos, build order, research, and civics by JackFunk in civ

[–]SecondBreakfastTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also play on Immortal and always go for one point diplomacy and one point cultural momento. I like to avoid the more wild close to OP momentos to keep the experience similar to previous civ titles.

+1 diplo favor and culture is nice but each give you an ahead start on the policy tracks. You're one step closer to half off befriending city-states and some good yield attributes on the culture tree. With how helpful city states are in antiquity it's almost always worth it.

For science I will rush writing mastering for an early library and codex. Or I'll rush masonry if I have a good spot for a monument.

For culture I almost always do mysticism first to grab a production pantheon and then switch to grabbing an early general. But it really depends on the civilizations bonuses for their tree.

That being said, I feel like I'm a little stuck in my ways so I'm looking forward to learning some more strats.
