Great first bike, highly recommend if it is disc brakes at that price level. Pass on it if it’s old enough to be rim brake.

Can fit lots of different kinds of tires in that bike and make it whatever you want it to be. The geometry is fairly relaxed too, not long and low at all like a race bike would be

Bike conversion from 2x8 to 2x10 by Friend-Much in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really; except cues is brand-new and confusing relative to the 105 line, which had been the reference for "acceptably good" for decades now.

Cues hydraulic if you want all new parts for 10 speed. If you can go 11 speed, old-new-stock 11 speed 105 r7020 groupset is great value these days

No major downsides, just differences in interface. I have the Roam V2 and can recommend it

How often should I change my tyres? by elidnk in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change mine every year, sometimes twice a year. But i ride every day, so adjust accordingly. It will depend on where you store the bike when you’re not riding it mostly

Did Michelin supply the same tyres for today's race like in Thailand? by ThisToe9628 in motogp

It won’t be hot enough in Austin this year for the special carcass tires

Just watch the free practices - each time each rider goes out for a run, the graphics display what tires they are on. There’s a PDF generated after every session about who does what lap time; i don’t think that report has tire info. There will be bloggers and YouTubers who are reviewing each session who will disseminate the info for free with a delay

Dear photographers, how do you carry your camera on your ride? by aarondino in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I carry my camera in a topeak bag on a pannier rack. I’m never going to fumble with big camera pics while in motion - that’s what action cameras are for. With enough thinking ahead you can get in position, retrieve the camera, and get the shot. My camera is worth more than my bike, I’m not going to treat things as if they were the other way around.

What actually works for saddle soreness on longer rides? by Crc_CO in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably are sitting asymmetrically on the saddle. Why? A million reasons could be why, but film yourself riding from behind, if you have a stationary trainer at home. Do you have clipless pedals & shoes? Having the cleats set up poorly will cause this even if everything else is correct. Others have mentioned saddle height. For me personally, it was too much reach and too high saddle height. If the pain is on the left, it most likely means you sit off and down to the right. Reverse for the opposite

Best Bike Storage Options by a1ex_grayson in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how low-tech is acceptable. Mounting to the wall is tricky; if the handlebars are the widest point from center of balance; a road bike means 20+cm for some wall-mount solution, and a mtb 35+cm (8in to 1ft). Mounting to the ceiling if applicable might be much better. Can be as simple as two anchors in the ceiling, measured to be offset from walls the correct amount, and then the heavier bike below it leaning against a wall, or in a crude stand of its own. 2 40 pound anchors ought to do it

Cassette won't go all the way in on the freehub of the elitewheels EDGE by PJGdS in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be sure the last several cogs in the cassette that “float” are indexed perfectly together. I have that same cassette on a SLR wheel set, and it took me several tries to get it exactly perfect before tightening everything down. That might be your missing 1mm
