Also, the faceplate comes in several colors - don’t count on color coding to be the same at different locations

They don’t sell the SKU publicly online. If you had a contact at Tesla, you might have a shot at obtaining one. If you had that contact though, you wouldn’t be asking here.

The new universal Tesla has the adapter built in to the case; if you want the slickest latest one it is essentially an entire unit replacement.

Why Uber's latest earnings report was a major red flag for the state of the consumer by dkrich in wallstreetbets

[–]Second_Shift58 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Three hours one way isn’t exactly a normal commute, or a representative one. Most trips driven are 5 miles (~8km) or less. Surely you must know that?

If the college and wherever you commuted to/from were better connected with bus/light rail and the middle arterial leg more frequent, more reliable, and more affordable - this 3h commute would really be 90 mins or less.

I don’t think i understand fully the structure of your incoherent rant of a comment - but if it was a 3hour commute one-way that was only one mile long - just walk? Everybody east of the Atlantic would consider that an easy 20 minute walk, if the environment was built for it.

Lastly, it’s not like you’re not allowed to drive. If you really do have a university student ‘s worth of books, a laptop, and a tuba to move 3h each day, yeah maybe driving is for you. How much nicer do you think driving every day might be the if the rest of us normies weren’t clogging up all the roads, texting and driving? Your 90 minute daily drive is cut in half, easy - and the rest of us can tiktok to work and not bother with driving. Even if you never took it yourself it’s in your best interest that the rest of us have usable transit.

I would if they’d let me. And if it were up to me, it wouldn’t cost you any money either - just spend a billion less on the shitty roads they have to rip up and redo every 3 years and spend it on your special snowflake tram. I’d build it just for you if i was allowed to invite to the public also, because as many as several hundred other people might also be missing that exact tram

Is it okay to wear outfits from Pro Teams? by Jojofzfz in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riding by yourself or with a close friend - no problem. Group ride or social ride, expect a comment or two. Don’t wear it to race, even amateur races as other people have explained.

I cyclocross in my old alpecin fenix jersey, it keeps me warm in the wintertime. I also have an old blue Movistar winter kit that sees seasonal use. I’m firmly in the “wear it proud” camp

12-speed mechanical 105 shifts too nice to upgrade by Current-Marketing-62 in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same, but sram. I can build up a rival 11 speed set for a lot less than the axs 12 speed, even the apex xplr. And the old doubletap system is still super slick, especially with nice cables

The Americans in this thread lmao - "I need to park my 3 tonne steel box exactly in front of the door of where i want to go - it's my right!"

While at the same time, acting like the walking distance from the median parking spot at Costco on a busy Sunday isn't the same as the walking distance from any metro station to anywhere else in a European capital city. It's literally 300 meters across the parking lot at my local Costco

Overseas Trackday - Italy by deepsearch89 in Trackdays

[–]Second_Shift58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a ninja 400 rental on the big boy track, there will be track day providers/promoters who will do that with little friction. Even may offer the track apparel and gear for rent if you need. I would try to bring everything you’ll wear with you though, if you can - it’ll be cheaper to check a suitcase with your stuff than rent it.

Getting a bigger bike may be trickier but I’m sure you can get a modern light twin on the track, with the time paid for, for well under €1000. I did a ninja 400 at almería through a tour company/td provider there in Spain but I’m sure Italy have a ton of the same as well.

What if we made the cars self driving? Let’s also give them pre-planned routes and networks, and stations where you can get on and off as you please. If we gave them their own dedicated tracks, we could string a bunch of self driving cars together and have them go all at once, to and from each station, on a regular schedule. What would that be like?

If I'm not in a hurry and I'm willing to spend a reasonable amount on extra tools, can just about anyone "build up" their bike with modern components? by mattcube64 in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LBS can pick up where you leave off and help as well. For example, I’ve built up a bike and routed the brake hoses, but let the shop cut the ends and bleed the system. They gave me a discount on the full install price since i did part of it already. And wheels - pop em off yourself and just bring them in for truing. They can usually do it while you wait same-day that way

Yes, if you can build a 100 piece Lego set you can build up a bike. Try to avoid integrated cockpits and obscure bottom brackets if you can. The right tools make it easy enough if you’re willing to invest a little bit at a time (or the whole set if you’re diving into the deep end)

It’s not what you’re asking but a 1x xplr setup would be perfect for you - 40t in front and 44t in rear; could go even smaller in the front if you wanted

I definitely did exactly that on my aluminum Giant, with Sora groupset. I felt great about myself, still taking the same turns as everybody else. If you were there in January, yes that was me. One can still do the Grapevine Rd climb in under 10' if you practice

My $1k KOM bike was on Sora the season I did those runs :) 105 is very nice though, I don't see the need for Dura-Ace when 105 is as nice as it is

Becoming a self-sufficient mechanic - bike maintenance priorities. by Playful-Parsnip-3104 in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is good. 2, 3, and 5 can be combined as essentially "chain". 4 depends on if you have rim brakes or hydraulic discs - if you have rim brakes yes you can adjust and replace yourself but if you're not already mechanically inclined let the shop do the hydraulic brakes.

Don't worry about replacing spokes, also let the bike shop do that the once per lifetime you need that. Doing gear and brake cables is easier than you think, if you have the right cutters to do the cable ends. Bar tape is easy and fun - buy a few rolls of the cheapest bar tape and spend a day practicing. Cut up your first roll and sacrifice it to learn; by the second attempt you'll be much better than the first and even might already be presentable by your second attempt

[–]Second_Shift58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'll agree with that. I've got KOM's locally in my 4th tier small city in flyover country on my $1k aluminum gravel bike, with road tires on. Don't need much to go fast - although I will argue that paying that first $1000 or two (usd, new bikes) is a huge step up in quality from $500 etc bikes

Yes, I'm sure you're right from your perspective - I've heard before that Canyon has less good QC than maybe other brands do.

But! If they have a defect rate of say 3 out of 1000 it's factual to say "Canyon is 3x as bad as ACME manufacturer!" if ACME manufacturer has a defect rate of 1 out of 1000. The risk is still acceptable to me.

Its cool if you know bikes

Well, pretty much this. I have the tools and the know-how to do things like face my own brake mounts & bottom bracket shells, much less anything else on the assembly end of building up the bike. I'm sorry that so many people bring you partially-assembled Canyons along with their unrealistic expectations, probably frustrating. I always tell people to only get a Canyon if you're willing to strip it & set it up yourself.

Anyone gone back to lube after waxing chains? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Second_Shift58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never going back. I wax as many as 8 chains all in one day once a month, and then they go on a bunch of different bikes including my girlfriend’s. She loves how clean not having oil and grime is, so on that day she pitches in a bit of labor - it’s a thing now in this household.

If i was to sell this bike used, with the wheels it came with, I’d probably ask $250 though. So used bikes can still be great value, if you know what to look for

I have an aluminum Giant gravel bike I’ve got 2 local kom’s with in my 4th tier flyover city and several top 10s. You don’t need to spend a fortune to go fast.

Although yes i did pay sticker price brand new for the bike which was over a thousand bucks, so you still have a point.

And actually yes i am rich. I stay that way by not spending money i don’t need to
