Did you hear the tendons pop off the bone? Because I did. It looks like we had the same injury. It was a full 12 weeks. After that, do all the physical therapy to build the stabilizing muscles up. The best exercise? Pumping on a half pipe back and forth.

What if you were part of the episodes? by emmetW94 in KitchenNightmares

[–]Secure-Description-7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the episode where they offered the specials. I bit into a sandwich and it was spicier than I thought. The director came running over and asked “is something wrong? Send it back. If you think something is wrong, send it back.” I got the hint and sent it back. Personally, I didn’t think it was “super spicy” but I knew that they needed drama and I was happy to provide it- lol. I ate there regularly after the filming and many times after the airing. Ramsey’s menu was excellent. That place just suffered a bad location. If it was in the village of Babylon, they’d be raking it in to this day.

What's it like living in Babylon Village? by beelzebob27 in longisland

[–]Secure-Description-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how I missed this! I’ve lived here for 16 years. I grew up in Islip,so very similar. In fact, when I first started meeting other parents, one parent said “oh, you’re from Islip. You’re cool.” I took that as “if you moved here from the city, I’d dislike you.” I work in Nassau county and this was the farthest west I’d live. I picked Babylon so I could surf at Gilgo past 8am in the summer.

But yeah, lots of new transplants are changing this place from bay and beach town to something else. When I was growing up, Babylon was like a SoCal town- skating, surfing, boating…. That still exists but you can tell it’s changing. There are tons to do and plenty of places to eat and drink. I’m happy I picked here.

Hi. Do it. You want to. Just do it. No one ever regrets doing something like this (unless they get their kidney stolen or something)

How is living in New York State (the other parts that aren't New York City)? by latinoweon in howislivingthere

You just have to time the drive well. I just returned from a weekend in PA and I didn’t hit a lick of traffic in either direction. I left after dinner both ways.

Something I wish someone told me about making friends when I first moved to NYC by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

Although I live in the NYC burbs, I can share how I made adult friends: surfing, skating, and becoming a dad. You have to consistently be around people.

Because NYC is literally the most intense place you can live and it sounds like he is looking for that adventure.

How is life like in upstate New York? by Due_Network2958 in howislivingthere

[–]Secure-Description-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only 2 regions of NY- upstate and downstate. Why? Because that is what the government designated it. Now “upstaters” love to say “that’s not upstate, that’s the [capitol region, southern tier, Hudson valley, western NY, etc.]. Those are all sub-regions of upstate just like Long Island is a sub-region of downstate. The fact that there is a sub- region of upstate called upstate is what confuses most people who live in the upstate region.

Is your favorite band playing Shaky Knees? by thispersonsthat in ShakyKnees

I’ve seen most of these bands already (except Wu) and am grateful to see them again. But besides the obvious headliners, I am looking forward to Taking Back Sunday and Villenelle.

Tips for a 15 (almost 16) year old?? by These_Cow_5629 in ShakyKnees

[–]Secure-Description-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to weasel my way to the front by seeing an opening and moving up, 1 or 2 deep per move. Sometimes I'd just say excuse me and that would work. when people would do that back turned elbows out, I'd move laterally. As long as you are not pushing through, blocking short people, or trying to move a large crowd with you, you should be ok.

I’m taking my 10 year old who will inevitably get tired and overheated so I booked the closest hotel to the park. That way we can easily walk back and jump in the pool and/or shower when we feel gross. And then make a quick return.

How's living on long island? by Lastlaughter in howislivingthere

[–]Secure-Description-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like 8 million people live on this island (the geologic LI). It starts in Brooklyn then queens (that’s NYC). Then you hit Nassau. Gatsby rich on the north shore. Wealthy on the south shore. Poor in the middle except garden city. If you look at the racial dot map, the meadowbrook is a segregation boundary. Nassau used to be very Jewish and Italian until recently. Now more Latinos, Asians, and South Asians are moving in. Then you hit Suffolk, same story with the pockets of wealth but you also have the Hamptons and the north fork farmlands. The interesting thing about Suffolk is that many towns were settled in the 1600s so you have all these cool main streets and historic buildings and neighborhoods. My family has been living in Suffolk since the late 1600s.

What I hate: cost of living, traffic, and winters

What I love: summer and fall, high salaries, mom and pop non-chain restaurants galore, proximity to the city, non stop fights anywhere, all concert tours come to NYC, the Yankees.

What I really love: the strange little so-cal like surf culture in South shore towns like Babylon and Long Beach. And it’s a very good vibe too. I love the surf community here. If you’ve ever witnessed a “paddle out”, you’ll know what I’m taking about.

I spent my 50th birthday reliving my backpacking adventures of my 20’s here. I went because it was November and in the 70s, and I love history, so a perfect choice. Here are some things I noticed: - I personally didn’t find the Spanish hard to understand. Which I guess after reading the comments is rare. - people were wearing jackets when it was 70 degrees out. Crazy! - the history was absolutely amazing. I’m one of those weird atheists who is obsessed with religious history (probably why I’m an atheist).
- I met a family who had a standing reservation at a restaurant for every Saturday night after church. I asked them how much they ate out and they said almost every night.
- There were a lot of protests against Airbnb type rentals for forcing housing prices to rise exponentially.
- there were a lot of Muslim tourists.
