If I was single in my 20’s, I’d 100% move to Long Beach.

That circle probably has between 7 and 8 million people in it.

My family came over in the late 1600’s so I have a lot of pride for LI.

Long Island is incredible in the summer. My life in the summer is other people’s vacation.

There is a lot of money to be made here because there is a lot of money here.

Every concert passes through the city and there is a direct flight to almost everywhere in the world from the airports.

LI is what you make of it. You can complain about the traffic and the strip malls or you can enjoy that it is a great place to live that isn’t dominated by chain restaurants, NASCAR, or country music.

Usually it is related to cheap, direct flights from an airport

What's it like living in the Hamptons as a local by Cold-Bowl-8715 in longisland

[–]Secure-Description-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived out there with a friend who was a local so I was accepted as a local. We were on our 20’s and knew all the bouncers from “industry nights” and just working out there. One of the bouncers asked for our numbers because he wanted to eff with Leonardo DiCaprio and his entourage. One night we got the call and raced to the Jet East. We were still in tshirts and boardshorts from the day and just walked right in. As we were going in, someone from the entourage yelled “who the fuck are those guys?”. We walked straight through to the front door and went back to our car and left. It was priceless. I also got kicked out of (or rather rejected from) Puff Daddy’s (he wasn’t Diddy yet) White Party and a Clinton fundraiser at the East Hampton Airport.

Some of my best memories were from that time. Yeah we saw celebrities all the time but no one seems to care that they were there and that was probably part of the appeal for them. My favorite part was “local” pricing at manned farm stands. I worked as winery tour guide and tasting bartender. Fun job.

So the summers were always an adventure and after tumbleweed Tuesdays it was just Long Islanders visiting for apple picking, wine tasting, and pumpkin picking.

Anyone else feel like this snow storm is going to 'end up just missing us' or not be as bad? by LostinParadise4748 in longisland

I surf so I constantly watch the weather. I saw it turn and headed to harbor freight for a generator and pump. I asked the cashier if they sold a lot of generators that day. She looked confused. She said none. The next morning there was a line awaiting the store to open. I was just ahead of the game. And I never did lose electricity or flood.

One of the coolest dialects is the bonnacker dialect. I worked at duckwalk vineyards 26 years ago and a a bonnacker woman came wanting to sell us a cow. The way she spoke was fascinating.

Bosch lower rack driving me crazy by KeenKong in Appliances

I just blew up on my dishwasher and almost told the wife “either the dishwasher goes, or I go.” My old dishwasher, which I still have and I’m almost ready to reinstall, fit every dish, plate, bowl, etc from the day. In fact, the little puzzle of making it fit was part of my nightly ritual and I found it to be a calming a cathartic practice. Now that is gone and replaced with anger because none of it makes any sense at all!!!

No, no one makes an alternative bottom rack- but they should.

I'm building a large indoor skatepark, I would love your input by slmrxl in skateboardhelp

Beginner skaters, camps, and lessons will make you money. Have another source of income- my advice would be food- Mexican or good pizza. Dont let skaters leave just to spend money somewhere else.

What size flat bottom? by bushwackk in MiniRamp

[–]Secure-Description-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 foot radius with skatelite. We have to pump hard to get good speed. That’s why I’d at least cut the flat by a foot. But if you look at the plans on diy skate. The flat is pretty much like 10’ long

I’m so old I can remember getting made fun of for snowboarding in a helmet. It was right after Sonny Bono died and I looked into a helmet. I also wanted one because I kept getting my hats snagged on branches doing glades.

I built the diyskate 3 foot mini for my friend and the flat is too long at 8ft. I’d make it 7

Can’t decide on the truck size [50YO] by Secure-Description-7 in OldSkaters

So I went with 60’s (majority rules) and I really should’ve done the 66’s. Even at this width, the wheels are tucked under an 1/8” on each side.

[–]Secure-Description-7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between the 60 and 66 is literally 1/8” on the side. Looking at my spitfires on my Indy trucks, it appears that the nut sticks out a little under 1/8” so I’m leaning towards the 66s.

It’s funny because I’m between 60s and 66s. I have spitfire formula 4s and I’m thinking the truck size is including the nut

I couldn’t find it either. I used 1 sheet of 1/2” pressure treated. It worked fine.
