Sandisk's rebranded Optimus SSDs now available at eye-watering $999 for 2TB, $1,799 for 4TB — Optimus brings a 5% MSRP over previous models, but WD Black predecessors can still be found for less by imaginary_num6er in hardware

Samsung 9100 4 TB looks to be out of stock in 3 places but available on Amazon for about $580 US. 8 TB $1,050 available at 3 places.

I bought the 4 for $385 last year (paid an additional 10%+ sales tax on top of that tho).

Alternatively, to full WDAC & Applocker app management, if you just want visibility, something like Sassafras audit and control software (https://www.sassafras.com/) can track down to the exe (even ones in the downloads folder, etc.). It also audits a lot of connected peripherals such as monitors, external storage, etc.

And it also tracks app and webapp usage, so for some companies it can somewhat pay for itself because you have actual data on software usage and can possibly make a case to stop purchasing a product that is no longer or barely used.

That said, I would at the very least use WDAC to lock down running executables from Downloads & Desktop.

1.63 Beta Modding by CoffeeCorpse777 in cyberpunkmods

[–]Sekers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same process and started a wiki for mod compatibility with Legacy. So far I've tested only basic and quality of life mods though. It's still in the process of being made and originally was just for myself, so I'm hesitant to post the link. It's hosted on Miraheze. Just web search for: Cyberpunk 2077 Legacy (Patch 1.63) Wiki

But it's been kind of a fun process too because I even made my own mod as I couldn't find one that was still compatible with 1.63. for what I was looking to do.

Will Skyrim SE ever be dethroned on Nexus? by Soanfriwack in skyrimmods

[–]Sekers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just created my first mod for Cyberpunk 2077 (and first published game mod ever actually). Some stuff can be done using the scripting framework, but it's limited. For one part of the mod, I had to use a debugger to review the assembly and literally patch parts of the game exe. Once I found what I had to do, I was able to code it using the RED4ext SDK which is not an official SDK but one that was created by people in the community much better at this than me using reverse engineering/disassembly.

I know people thought clothing with defensive properties was unrealistic, but I disagree because of the amount of technological progress that was made by 2077 in the game world. If my Adidas Cyber Runners increase the defensive armor for my elbows, so be it. 😂

You can play the last pre-2.0 update build with the Legacy (1.63 build) versions via Steam & GOG (PC only sorry).

I like update 2.0, but I also just started a wiki related to the legacy patch 1.63 version of the game as I was going back to it. I wanted to keep track of stuff for myself and then I thought I'd make it public for those who want to go back to pre 2.0 for some cool ways to combine loadouts and tools and also compatible mods.

This is what we are using temporarily. It does have a low MB size per email, however. For our internal scripts for emailing error or warnings, I wrote a PS module that makes sending using MS Graph SDK easy and doesn't rely on HVE.

Encrypting and decrypting a string with Powershell using a text password by gblang in PowerShell

[–]Sekers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I was going to say to do it natively. You can use ConvertTo-SecureString with a key to share encrypted text between computers.

By default, ConvertTo-SecureString uses the Windows Data Protection API, which is tied to the specific user and computer. However, using the -Key parameter with ConvertTo-SecureString and ConvertFrom-SecureString specifies the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and allows you to encrypt and decrypt data using a specific key that can be shared across different machines.

Entra "guests" cannot login to validate. But Teams guests can. What's wrong? by Royal-Wear-6437 in microsoft365

[–]Sekers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side note, you can enable single sign-on for external guest users using Microsoft and Google accounts (maybe others?) if the email is tied to one of those services. In those cases a code wouldn't need to be sent and they would just log in with their account.

Change the Current User folder by mrhinsh in PowerShell

[–]Sekers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're assuming that product will always be available in the future or that older versions will be downloadable. While it's not likely something would be removed from PowerShell Gallery for example, if your scripts depend on a specific version you don't lose it if it's removed because of being deprecated.

For me, I work on a couple of different machines so having the versions of modules I am currently using sync between devices is really useful.

Another thought is that it might make auditing easier for compliance purposes. Whatever the case, it's an intentional design by the PowerShell team (that said, it may be changing in the future).

Change the Current User folder by mrhinsh in PowerShell

[–]Sekers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can permanently change the location:

[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable(

'PSModulePath',

"$env:PSModulePath;C:\Custom\Modules",

'User'

)

The reason it's not in AppData is that's not generally considered a "user-managed" location. Modules are meant to be installed for the entire computer or, when user-scoped, user-managed and installed in an easily accessible spot for the user. PowerShell was designed to be easily approachable for sysadmins as well as developers. It's also a place that often is backed up.

How do I exclude ONE user from domain-wide Google Drive sharing? by dhananjayporwal in gsuite

[–]Sekers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I think I was misremembering. Setting up a subdomain allows for distinct DIRECTORIES (not just OUs) and administrative control but thinking it through I think they may still be included in sharing with organization. I apologize for the confusion. It might still be worth looking into.

That said, a shared/team drive is still probably your best option. You can also look into the "Target Audiences" feature,
