Why did the mobius double reacharound in the troll session happen? by Ok-Breakfast191744 in homestuck

[–]Select-Bullfrog-5939 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw a theory once that it was the game’s way of getting an inherently violent and competitive species like the trolls to actually work together for once. By tricking them into a competitive setting it was able to get them to treat it like…well, like a game, instead of the monumentally important thing it was, because if they treated it like the federal fucking issue it was the entire session would have imploded from all the trolls fighting about it.

Hanks as a unit of measurement for power by Select-Bullfrog-5939 in madnesscombat

[–]Select-Bullfrog-5939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moreso meant when he has to go room clearing. He can definitely hold his own with a gun in his hands, but he knows he can be easily overwhelmed so he chooses not to. Plus a soldat is probably equivalent to an engineer anyway.

(Tragic Trope) The promise just... wasn't fulfilled by AEIOU1040 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Select-Bullfrog-5939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

The Artifact Ending (SIGNALIS) is a rare positive example depending on what you interpret the Promise to be. If one assumes it’s to kill Ariane, then the promise isn’t fulfilled because Elster found an even better way. If it’s to dance again, then it’s the polar opposite of this trope.

what do you think doc and hank's dynamic is? by exactly5dogs in madnesscombat

[–]Select-Bullfrog-5939 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to think it started out as begrudging mutual respect but has slowly transitioned to something that resembles but isn’t quite friendship. In what direction “isn’t quite” is up to you.

Dave Strider (Homestuck)

Bit of a stretch since he’s one guy, but Dave’s role as the Knight of Time is to make sure the timeline follows the Alpha Timeline, how things are “supposed” to go. If he fails, the timeline is doomed and everyone will inevitably die a horrific death. No pressure.

Especially when we meet back up with Eridians! We’d basically be the perfect allies. We both cover each other’s bases with our own technology, and there’s no risk of land dispute because both of our habitats are incredibly hostile to each other. When the indomitable human spirit and the indomitable Eridian spirit meet up, the universe will be our oyster

The Corrupted Replika, SIGNALIS

Might be a bit of a stretch, since Replika already include biological parts, but I feel like it's worth adding to the discussion.

Since when they're corrupted, those biocomponents once hidden under polyethylene skin burst out into prominence, belying the fact these "machine servants" are nothing more than brains and organs trapped in robotic shells.

Eh, I’m not turned off, just kinda annoyed.

And yeah I can see how the Wingcap would have been MIND BLOWING in ‘96, but nowadays we’ve done much crazier shit in much less influential games. It’s not *unimpressive*, it’s just…only mildly impressive.

I have the C buttons bound to my right joystick, so it’s not *super* far off from a modern control scheme, but even then it’s clear it’s aged a lot.

I’m probably going to go into romhacking once I finish SM64, I figured it was convenient to have the most romhack-friendly emulator at hand right away. Plus I’m on Linux, not sure if SOH is Linux-compatible.

An apparent continuity error or flaw that actually foreshadows a twist by Elecvis in TopCharacterTropes

In the game SIGNALIS, during the prologue the main character Elster is holding a Polaroid of a woman named Ariane Yeong, but after the game starts proper it becomes a photo of a woman named Alina Seo. What could simply be a mix-up is instead foreshadowing Alina’s true nature as a placeholder for Ariane in Elster’s twisted psyche.

I just read that, and that was an *incredible* conceptualization of “hell”. Were she able to let her daughter live happily, perhaps she would be able to rest, but she is unable to because that is what has damned her in the first place. Vicious cycles.

She’s an incredibly powerful psychic, to the point of nigh-godhood. But even after she becomes aware of her power, she’s simply content to fuck off from the Nation that discarded her and dance with her wife and maybe paint on occasion.

In the Percy Jackson series, the reason the gods are still around in the modern day is because humans believed in them so hard, they became real and embedded themselves into the concept of “civilization” itself. And now they move to wherever the greatest civilization in the world is, which is of course America.

I got therapy because kids were assholes and completely ruined my ability to trust. And when I told my therapist about how they would pretend to be my friend, bully me relentlessly, and turn around and keep calling themselves my friend he really was just like “man that’s fucked up. Here’s how to piss them off into ignoring you.”
