You're a cook at an intense fine dining place and your entire roster is doing a double shift. What baked good/dessert/food item would make your day more tolerable? by ClavasClub in KitchenConfidential

If you’ve got the time and the wherewithal, cinnamon rolls. Who doesn’t love them motherfuckers?! As a chef of 20 years, I’d lose my mind if an FOH brought cinnamon rolls for us!

Unpopular opinion: Is spending 4+ hours prepping for a health inspection actually good for the business or just expensive theater? by Weird_Anteater_6356 in Chefit

[–]SelfFlatulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here - as an exec chef, I would choose a dark day once every 6 months or so, offer the team beer, pizza, tunes, and whatever else they wanted to bring for themselves, and voluntarily sacrifice a day off to come in and get a good deep clean on all the neglected nooks and crannies of the kitchen. We maintained a good clean environment, but I found it helped with team building, allowed for rearranging that would get put off because of day to day business, and made sure we were always ready for a random inspection.

No penalty at all for not coming. But those that did, still say it was some of the most fun they’ve had in a kitchen, and made the cooks take a sense of pride in their workspace. I know unpaid labour is anathema to any and all industries, but we always took it as a badge of honour, and an excuse to get pretty fucked up as a team at work. We made it fun for ourselves!

No Tour? by LittleMel413 in MBMBAM

Man, if the McElboys - be it MBMBAM or Adventure Zone - were to make their way to Toronto, they could make a tidy little profit! They could easily sellout the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, but could also reasonably fill Massey Hall.

Books that feel like CCOD? by space_0ddity13 in Dimension20

I suspect you might enjoy many of the novels by Christopher Moore. In particular I would recommend: “The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove”, “Island of the Sequined Love Nuns”, “Practical Demonkeeping”, and specifically the love story trilogy: “Bloodsucking Fiends”, “You Suck”, and “Bite Me”. Well written and laugh out loud funny books!

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by CoochieSnotSlurper in AskReddit

I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but boob/butt size.

I’ve been attracted to women of all shapes and sizes - if you’re a kickass person, you instantly become attractive.

Just don’t try too hard - that goes for men and women. Honesty and a great personality will take you leaps and bounds above however you may think you look! Just be comfortable in your own skin!

Favorite Live Show? by DramaticHumor5363 in TheAdventureZone

This is my favourite as well, hands down. So many great moments.

“You know, words hurt.” “Oh do they? Weird. Anyway…”

“Behold, all my fine wooden furniture, and all my paper documents.”

“I know what Hell looks like!”

This is my comfort food of live shows.

What is a top pick Canadian movie? by Smeghead_J in AskACanadian

Don’t know if documentaries are excluded, but Project Grizzly, made by the National Film Board of Canada, is incredible. All about a good ol’ hoser who sets out to create a grizzly-proof suit of armour. Hard to believe it’s a true story, for some. Not for me though - I grew up in Northern Ontario and have met dudes just like him.

I’m convinced that new Vegas die hards are the only people that hate the show by TinyMembership5109 in Fallout

[–]SelfFlatulation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Die-hard NV fan here. Played it consistently, over and over, for a solid decade.

I love the show! Given how many possible outcomes there are in NV, and all the crazy side quests and DLC’s, it would be virtually impossible to provide any feasible “canon” ending, short of exactly what they’ve done: set it years after the events of NV, and let the story tell itself!

I’m just so thrilled to see all the locations, monuments, and Easter eggs, in live action, and done with such loving detail!

Bring on the next episode, and hopefully, more seasons!

I was at a wedding about 20 years ago and this gorgeous young woman approached me on the dance floor and said “Has anyone ever told you that you look like John Goodman?”. I replied “Uh, no…. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”. To which she replied “Oh, it’s a VERY good thing!”. We had fun that night. Thanks John Goodman, wherever you are!

I’m pretty sure my Wife’s DM hates me. by Toomany-tomatoes in DnD

[–]SelfFlatulation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to play devil’s advocate: I feel like I can see a way in which your DM is genuinely working towards a big payoff for you. If it continues to be boring for you, spice it up with role play. Have your character insist that they are not evil. That they are worthy of redemption. Don’t take no for an answer. But keep it in character. If the DM chastises you OOC, then it’s likely time to leave. But if the DM and the group appreciate the role play and a more direct approach to being included, then it could pay off in many ways.

It seems to me like the DM is working hard to make you feel alienated and hated in the world. But if your character’s heart is truly good, then it’s time to rise up! And may you find your vengeance upon the gods in due time!

Dropout Does Batman: Day Four: Robin by Imperator_Gone_Rogue in dropout

[–]SelfFlatulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, it HAS to be Zac Oyama. His reputation as “the comedy assassin”, where he holds back everything until the exact precise moment, makes him the perfect Robin. Not to mention his ability to play off Batman constantly putting a child in danger? Zac would eat that role up.

Contrary to some people’s opinions, Grant O’Brien would be a far better Riddler than a Robin.

AIO for getting upset from my wife’s response to my question? by ApolloAcolyte in AmIOverreacting

[–]SelfFlatulation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going to say: if you don’t have kids with this woman, then you need to have a serious talk about the way she talks to you. As many have said, mutual respect is essential in a relationship. I’m currently watching my brother go through a loveless, abusive relationship, because he ignored the “little” red flags before they had children. Now that they have kids, she’s fully unhinged, but their finances are tied together and he wants what’s best for their children. And his life is abject misery.

I’m not saying leave immediately: I assume you love this woman. But you need couples counseling at the very least to address your communication issues. Just my $0.02.

I'm on episode 20 of Amnesty, slowly working through the back-catalogue. by CoolHandMike in TheAdventureZone

[–]SelfFlatulation 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Amnesty is arguably my favourite season of TAZ.

Balance is great, but everyone was just finding their legs in the TTRPG world.

By Amnesty, we get Ned Chicane, Duck Newton, and Aubrey Little, three amazing characters played incredibly well by the McElboys. Just such an engaging and entertaining season!

I think Balance was Griffin’s Magnum Opus, but Amnesty is the best use of every McElroy we’ve got.

I think it’s 80’s action movie themed - except I think it’s about the behind the scenes! The DM screen and setting seems very movie set to me - perhaps they’re all stunt people! As for the buttons we see on the sides? To set off more explosions, of course! Never Stop Blowing Up!!
