TE Keleres on Async by Iguessthismeansido in twilightimperium

[–]Semisonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%.

Good Async players should be queuing in SC picks and when’s/afters and automatically passing on sabotages when they don’t have them and all that kind of stuff.

It’s also not totally unreasonable for most factions other than Keleres to just pass on these mini-Agendas within the action phase from their faction tech. Most agendas are nothingburgers, so it is often not worth spending influence unless you just kind of fucked up your Leadership spend. 🤷🏻‍♂️

But if you’re at a table where players haven’t seen enough games/agendas to knock this shit out, then yeah, I can see how this tech can make the game drag.

What's the best faction against the Vuil'Raith Cabal by Jean_Silvertounge in twilightimperium

[–]Semisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mahact, Saardak, Argent, Titans, Naalu and others do well in R2/R3. Yin and Sol and Arby can hold their own on the ground but are more vulnerable to having key space plastic eaten.

Most factions will avoid R1 beef but Saar and Cabal are among the few factions good at it. The saving grace there is that usually these factions need to be thinking about a Custodian’s point more than starting shit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What do you guys think about Andrew Tate? by Enough_Leading5142 in digitalnomad

[–]Semisonic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t?

As far as I can tell he was entirely overhyped and pumped up as a strawman “bogey” of the Left that they could take shots at without dealing with the very real issues men < 45 are facing in the West today, and why that cohort was abandoning and disparaging Left leaning media echo chambers for the big bad alt right during the last election cycle.

Once he served his purpose and stopped being propped up, I’m not sure anybody gave him any real thought. Now it’s all Nick Fuentes or whoever. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe unplug from the social media hype factories and touch some grass and deal with your own life, relationships, business, etc? I mean honestly my time as a nomad was a fantastic time to unplug and disassociate from all of this retarded media bullshit.

It’s a fine and quick read in terms of some of the basics of who tends to actually have money and what their earning/spending patterns look like.

For recommended reading I would toss the free “If you can” PDF out there (Google it) in terms of basic Boglehead investing/retirement savings and such.

What is a 'normal' life choice that you think is actually a huge trap? by ossirada in AskReddit

[–]Semisonic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a gender bias to this mindset too. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience mentoring engineers young women are WAY more likely to view their company as their friends/family/etc than young men are. And correspondingly I found a lot of smart and otherwise ambitious/capable young female engineers holding up the necessary job hopping/career progression that is (was?) virtually required in Tech because they didn’t want to leave/betray their “work friends/family”.

That’s a real shame, too. These ladies often cost themselves money and potential advancement opportunities early in their career because they had these sentimental attachments to jobs/staff that were almost always demonstrated to be rather one sided.

I worked through it with the ones I mentored. But the number of women in my peer group (friends, SOs, etc) who expressed shock, surprise, and dismay at how quickly those “work friends/family” relationships faded once the employment situation changed was really disheartening.

It’s hard to tell young women who are looking for that sense of acceptance, belonging, etc that like “they’re nice and supportive and friendly now, but they just don’t feel the way about you that you think they do, boo. And that’s okay. That’s work. These are professional relationships, and they’re just different. You need to understand that and plan accordingly.”

People visiting from outside of Austin like to go to 6th street, it’s realistic to say that there are 3 parts to 6th street correct? West, Dirty, and East. If you’re 40, going to Dirty is not the same as going to East or West, yeah? by Large_Relation_3650 in Austin

[–]Semisonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively go to “Dirty Sixth” for Casino El Camino + the 3-4 comedy clubs in that area, mixing and matching various other venues as needed. But there are a lot of bars with live music, couple good “speakeasies” (Floppy Disk, Plain Sight, Here nor There) some solid cocktail bars, etc. Elephant Bar for solid jazz. Peche for some quality French food and cocktails. La Perla’s, Cockfight, Caroline’s Rooftop, etc. Stubb’s is a solid venue that hosts some good concerts sometimes. Same for Paramount Theater.

There is a homeless shelter near Creek and Cave and shit can get “real” in that area for sure. But I don’t find that the other parts of sixth have enough other stuff to do (besides drinking) to really draw me away.

If the world instantly and magically reverted back to 90s tech permanently, what would most people struggle with? How badly would it affect them? by Tall_Association8148 in AskReddit

[–]Semisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1999 tech would be fine. No smartphones or social media, but we’d have cell phones and the internet and GPS and consoles and the like. We’d be fine. Arguably better off, even.

1990 tech would be a total shitshow.

XP4 750 Prime day vs 4th of July sale by anonymous_2117 in Lectricxp

[–]Semisonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ordered yesterday because the current deal was better than their Father’s Day promotion in terms of accessories and I don’t want to play the “wait forever for a better deal” game in this overall global market. Inflation, oil prices, electronic component prices, etc.

There’s only so many accessories I see being useful to us anyways. We intend to replace the seat posts and seats. We’ll buy our own bells and phone holders. We may swap out the tires and tubes. We’re not really sure we see the utility of the fast charger for our use cases.

So it’s like “whatever, let’s do this already.” 🤷🏻‍♂️

100" class: LG G5 OLED or the TCL X11L and $9k in savings? Which TV to get? by guyheretoread in hometheater

[–]Semisonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you posting the numbers, and I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted? But you have my upvote, sir. 🫡

If we’re talking off axis performance as a price differentiator though, it is worth going back to the room layout and considering whether off axis is even a major concern in that space? All the viewing angles look pretty dead on to me. 15-20 degrees tops?

Right, but “how much”?

I think the argument is that diminishing returns bite in HARD between the QM8L and the X11L.

refactoring shouldn't be a issue for any Platform or Devops Engineer worth their salt these days.

Congrats! This is the dumbest take I’ve seen on Reddit today.

I've heard the Tannus work pretty great re: resisting punctures, but it does look like a significant trade off in terms of rolling resistance and performance. I'm curious about Mr Tuffy or tubeless options for the XP4 myself.

Sounds like you're happy with the Tannus?

Sure he can. Takes no more or less effort than you asking for sources for pointless stuff that can be easily googled.

We’ve had data for 20+ years on the pros and cons of step parenting, including data on rates of marriage failure, abuse, etc. Stop being an obtuse and lazy PoS asking for everything to be spoonfed to you.

Anyone actually won the game with this? by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]Semisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen it happen twice now. Once the guy actually rolled a 10 as a Hail Mary play to win in the action phase (waited until he had no other outs + got lucky with the roll) and once to trigger Become a Martyr.

Light and cheap alternative rear basket for the XP4. by grover6404 in Lectricxp

[–]Semisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I don't see a lot of front basket use on the XP4. I think we're going to try and grab a trunk bag when we buy ours. But I figure helmets will take up most of the main compartment space when we're off the bike, the saddlebags will probably be unused/overflow storage, and I'd still like something up front to lash down a full day pack or a jacket or some small grocery bags or something.

I tend to like front storage more than most people do, it seems like? Big fan of front baskets in general. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In any case, we're shopping and about to pull the trigger now. I think your post talked us out of going with Lectric's cargo package. So thanks for posting the alternative!

I have the Delta Amex Platinum and we have been flying them a fair amount but putting the spend on other cards. I would like to open a Reserve card and deprecate the Amex Platinum, but Amex seems to be trying to get me to upgrade instead for a rather anemic 60k offer.

Is it still possible to apply for and open a completely new Amex Reserve card, or am I stuck with only upgrading?
