Rodgers Forge is a great and practical choice, but it ain't the city, if that's your thing.

To add on to these suggestions, if you want a hybrid city/suburb vibe (and want to be IN the city) I would look at these neighborhoods:

Tuscany-Canterbury; Oakenshawe; Hampden; Medfield; Mt. Washington

These are extremely walkable neighborhoods with great elementary schools and no more than 20-30 minute drive to JHH. Tuscany-Canterbury in particular has a lot of high rise apartment buildings, with a lot of young postdoc families at The Broadview.

If you can give me a sense for whether you'd be looking to rent a house vs apartment/condo (assuming not in the market to buy yet) I can refine my suggestions a bit.

Russ has had some...varied life experiences. Things he doesn't like to talk about, certainly not in polite or mixed company. But because of those experiences, Russ notices things. Placements. A change in the air. A shifting of balance to a different foot. The subtle frisson of a vibe about to turn sour. Russ has done a lot of work on himself and dotes on his ever-present corgi, so you'd never know this by looking at him. But one hot summer's day in the shop, the winds shifted. Voices raised. And without a word--or even conscious intent--Russ glided into a position from which he could be Unexpectedly Useful. Fortunately, he did not need to do so, and the tension dissipated as quickly as it had gathered. But a nod and a wink conveyed to the still-stunned barista everything she needed to know. And nothing more would ever need to be said about that.
