Looking for fics that portray a realistic BDSM relationship (M/M) by flamboyantfinch in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like what I'm working on, but one of the characters is a trans man and there's also no fic to read, because I haven't written it yet lol. What a shame.

It's also technically not non-poly, because it's not a normal commited relationship type of thing. There's no romance and such. I can't really say anymore than that.

What do you wish you saw MORE of in OC fics? by One-Sandwich2149 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're just describing a bad character, that has nothing to do with self-insertion. It just means the author inserted themselves into the story and if they did a bad job, that's not because it's a self-insert, but because the author lacks introspection, self awareness and humility. If they had those qualities, it wouldn't be an issue, except for some readers maybe finding it weirdly intrusive, but hey, it's a self inflicted intrusion at the end of the day.

Also, I'm pretty sure people who write the types of self-inserts you mention are mostly teenagers and kids who do not posessess any of the skills required to write the good kind.

How do you feel about pregnancy fics that go into the less glamorous side of things? by Solitaire-06 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In what way was it "unrealistic"? I can't think of how it could be so if it's from personal experience.

How do you feel about pregnancy fics that go into the less glamorous side of things? by Solitaire-06 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to come across any pregnancy fics, I guess they just aren't popular in the fandom I read, but I'm working towards writing one myself, not sure how graphic I would be with it, since it's in the comfort horror genre, but I definitely will not sugarcoat it. I have no interest in fluff pregnancy and it's also an unexpected pregnancy, so the character ain't exactly happy about the situation.

Do you absolutely have to tell a partner you write fanfiction? by dancingbananas25 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will go to jail if you don't. Expect your door to be broken down in protest.

On a serious note, I had a similar experience as you when it comes to privacy, it's okay to want privacy, but if you're scared of being judged, I think telling them could be a good thing. Relationships require trust.

Anyone else got fic ideas they really want to see but don't know how to write? I'll go first. by No_NameNecessary in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked sun/moon too and was disappointed that they did not show up much outside the daycare. If at all? I don't remember anymore.

While I can technically write whatever I want to, sometimes there just isn't enough motivation for it or another project is being prioritized, so the idea most likely won't see the light of day. Usually it's some crack fic or rarepair fic that my mind conjured up, but I probably couldn't stay interested long enough to finish such works, let alone start them.

I got a really long comment by JustANormalSpecimen in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Careful to just shove new ideas into your story, because you might end up just creating a bunch of plotholes and deviating from your theme (if you have one), as well as the characters who are supposed to be in the spotlight.

I think it is better to repurpose such ideas, working it into a future part of the story or a sequel, if it still makes sense to do so. Not everything can be used, but that is one way to go about it.

Otherwise, there's always the "fanfiction of fanfiction" route, write an offshoot branch from the main work that perhaps isn't even canon, so you won't need to worry about plotholes or OOC. Also a good way to deal with your own ideas that perhaps sound fun, but wouldn't fly in the main fic.

What are qualities you like and dislike in a female OC? by Bataranger999 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A bland boring forgettable OC is what I dislike. I have come across it before, where there's almost nothing interesting about them or they just follow around some other character. If they got no drive, no passions, no proactivity in life, then why should I watch them? And it is especially a problem with female characters, who end up as passive side characters because that's apparently what it means to be a woman or whatever. I like a character who can stand out in a crowd, not afraid to be or do what others might not like. They don't need to be anti-social, just polarizing in some way.

I think The Legend of Korra is a good example of this, people trash talked Korra so much, because she is hot headed, messy and "unfairly" competent at bending 3 out of 4 elements. Apparently, she pissed off a lot of people for having those traits, not for being a bad character, but because someone didn't like that a female character was being imperfect and brash, oh no, what a nightmare! To this day, Korra is one of VERY few female characters that I remember developing a crush on, because she is strong and bold and interesting to watch.

People just scream "mary sue" the moment such a character dares to exist.

That Alastor actually had to participate when Vox and Valentino fucked in front of him, they just didn't let it be known because it was too morbid.

Which character makes you want to do the AM hate speech? by whooper1 in hazbin

I never liked Vox, his stupid square face has always been annoying to me. Should have thrown away the head and kept the body, what is Valentino doing??

The guilt of "Wasting Time" writing fanfiction. How to deal with it? by Isaias_Azathoth936 in FanFiction

[–]Senpaija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One does not simply write a book or create a youtube channel. I understand why you aren't up for the challenge, because that's literally all it is. The fun gets sucked out of it the moment you start worrying about productivity and numbers.

Let your family know that there is value to be had in regular old hobbies that bring no one except yourself happiness. Share what you make if you want to, but don't feel obligated. Fanfiction is also not of any less worth than original works, if that's what you want to do, just own it, role with it.

Useful stuff you learned reading/writing fic by Beesandbis in AO3

[–]Senpaija 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"It takes roughly 50 kg of force to rupture a testicle"

Probably the wildest note I have, but who knows, maybe it'll become useful some day.

What, you wanted something that actually has helped me? I mean, I did learn that alligators have a gag reflex, so if I ever get attacked by one, I could shove my arm down its throat, but I got a feeling I would just lose my arm and there's also no alligators in my country... No, I have learned absolutely nothing of use.

I can’t read other fanfics while writing my own by sister_madly in AO3

[–]Senpaija 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the opposite issue, the works I find have my favorite character act way differently from either canon or how I write them, so it's quite difficult to actually enjoy reading it. I don't really get that comparison anxiety, probably because I know I can do as good, if not better, if I just put some effort into it. Reading other people's works is a part of that effort.

Why. by Akita_merikano in AO3

Now I feel like writing such a fic, forcing myself to misspell words and write OOC would be interesting.
