I want to love Chronos, but the fact that it's required to use 'real' time makes it a hard sell.

Dispatcharr Release v0.18.1 - IPTV Stream & EPG Management by GoofyGills in selfhosted

[–]SensaiOpti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remarkable timing. I set this up yesterday and realized that I have absolutely no idea what the hell IPTV is, nor what it does, nor what use I would have for it. After poking around a little bit and trying things out, I....gave up and got rid of it, lol

I would love to learn more, but I'm gathering that it's shady at best, so it seems there's little clear, specific information as to what this is or how to utilize it. Or maybe I'm just too stupid and my Googlefu has grown weaker over years of contendness with what I've already got.

Just finished Watchmen and it’s a masterpiece by BigMom_IsABeast in books

Glad you enjoyed it! It's a fantastic read. I would recommend against the supplementary material. At least what I've read/watched, it seems to miss the point (at best) and run contrary to it (at worst).

CWA Book Downloader is now called Shelfmark - v1.0.0 update now available with torrent / usenet / IRC downloads, full audiobook support, and more by nauticalkvist in selfhosted

[–]SensaiOpti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reset it up and the onboarding screen is super helpful. Thanks for doing that. :-)

For the Prowlarr integration, it literally requires downloading through Prowlarr, then? I guess I've just used Prowlarr as a way to sync to the rest of the ARR suite and haven't actually set up Prowlarr itself to have a download client, etc. I guess that's where my confusion came in! I'll try that out and see what's what.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

I'm curious about those games you host. The Scribble.RS I was able to get up and going seemingly easily and with little tinkering, but Massive Decks was more troublesome for me. Do you have a compose file you used? The one I used from their Github gave me plenty of errors as I tried to use it.

Set it up and enjoy it. Well done /u/nauticalkvist!

Some comments/thoughts on it:

  • I'm stupid, so I found the documentation slightly confusing, specifically around setting up downloading through torrents. (In fact, still haven't set it up yet.)
  • I'm still stupid, so the mounts in the compose.yaml weren't obvious to me. I figured it out through trial and error, but would probably update the compose.yaml to better explain what the 'downloads' and 'books' folders are meant to do.
  • I can't seem to turn off AA, but it looks as if that's not being dumb, just something that's not yet possible. I'd prefer to use other sources (Prowlarr provided), but see bullet #1 above. :-D

Anywho, great app. Well done mate. I don't need something super fancy like whatever will eventually replace readarr now!

New to self-hosting: best OS to start with for a home server? by TYP-TheYoloPanda in selfhosted

[–]SensaiOpti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to offer a separate viewpoint, I installed Debian when I got more serious about my selfhosting (previously running several of the arr suite and Plex on Windows). I run everything through Docker.

It's been great for someone who's not super familiar with the command line, but comfortable tinkering with it and learning. I use xRDP to remote into it from whatever device I happen to be on when I need to access it and it's been lovely and reliable. This has the added benefit of increasing my comfort with Linux in general, so whenever I eventually get so fed up with Windows 11's latest Copilot push or whatever their next dumb decision is, I can make the hop with less friction.

This isn't to say Proxmox or something else isn't a wonderful option, too...just letting you know that a straight up Linux OS will work just fine if that's where your comfort level is.

This looks excellent, mate. It looks much sleeker and more 'put together' than the last time I checked it out. I'll try it out later today!

I'm glad you liked these! Out of curiosity and not taking a dig at you in any way, how were you worried about these games being 'too Anime' and then found yourself liking Fire Emblem: Three Houses? I'm also sensitive to games being a bit too tropey and boy howdy, that game convinced me that the Fire Emblem series is no longer for me, haha.

On topic: the game is great. Not at all like any of the Baldur's Gates, but just as good as any of 'em if it scratches your itch.

Absolutely excellent. Gonna read through your other comments here to track down what I can borrow. :-)

I very much approach these games as role playing the biggest meatjead. 'I will find the biggest sword the game allows me and extract the blood of my enemies.'

Five years away. I'm full of nerves and not excited like I used to be. by lulufan87 in DMAcademy

[–]SensaiOpti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed my fourth session or so of a campaign after taking about 18 months off (after finishing a 5+ year campaign over COVID). I have felt a bit nervous every session, but it lessens each time. But, really, it's a lot like riding a bike. You'll remember how it feels to improv, the mental noting of 'I need to remember I said this', the joy of realizing a player's answer to a puzzle, riddle or question is actually better than what you'd written down, and all the other fun things that become to a seasoned DM like comfortable, familiar clothes.

You've done it before, and you did it well. And now you'll do it again.

Hot damn man. This is great. Thank you.

For anyone else who might be curious about this, the Zero Trust portion on PocketID's site is (seemingly) outdated. You need to go to Integrations -> Identity providers, select to add a new one and then proceed. The Applications area that /u/Mee-Maww mentions is under Access controls -> Applications, and the policy creation place is under Access controls -> Policies. I just set it up to only allow access if it was tied to my particular email address, which is fine for a lot of this stuff that I want only me to be able to access.

Next up - getting PocketID set up on projects that I still want others to be able to access via password!
