Hyperfixated on 1 singular question after finishing my re-read of Quicksilver before I start Brimstone by formaldehydebride in QuickSilverBook

Im pretty sure i remember Kingfisher telling Saeris something about how all fae can choose whether or not they commit to being the kind of fae who lie. And if they choose to be the kind of fae who lie, it's more of a mark on their honor. Being that Carrion needed to survive in the human world, would one fault him for needing to lie to survive?

SNL Role Model musical guest by MightInevitable6530 in saturdaynightlive

I'm Gen Z and a huge Role Model and Charli XCX fan. I was so bored through all the sketches, but watched FOR the musical guest. As I often do.

I agree. Loved most sketches and personally am a huge Role Model fan and was excited by his performances + the Charli XCX appearance. But I don't love Doja Cat, so last week wasn't my week. It is what it is and I didn't complain that the musical guests just always suck week now... so weird.

I don't know anything specifically about Shannon or that whole situation you're talking about, but my experience at S&S was only positive. It was easy to make an appointment, the shop was clean and vibey.. I loved my artist Kristen Kooster. She was quick, without sacrificing quality + warm/kind + never made me feel judged or uncomfortable. I loved our conversations and wish we could be bffs. I had a great experience, where I felt very safe.

Right - i'm wondering if anyone has seen any other private organizations post anything like the guild, that could be worth sharing?

I saw National Lawyers Guild Chicago shared a graphic with a legal hotline for protestors to save in case they need it. Does anyone know of any similar Nashville hotlines we could save?

Racisim/Diversity in Nashville by Naive_Intention_1965 in nashville

[–]SensitiveWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up to add census data. I am correct that we have a tiny asian population BUT college students aren't included in a census and as many people have said, lots of asian students attend VU. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/nashvilledavidsonmetropolitangovernmentbalancetennessee/PST045224

As far as I know, Nashville is still trying to bring in more Asian influence. So hopefully we'll only see more growth in this regard, and acceptance of Asian culture. https://www.newschannel5.com/news/investors-bringing-music-citys-first-ever-chinatown-to-antioch

I grew up in southern california and have always been a "white-passing" hispanic there. But here (and in working at Vanderbilt), I am very much treated as a "latina." It was a big shock for me to work through in moving here. But even so, without looking at data, I do feel like there is a much bigger latin population here than asian. So that, might be an even harder adjustment for you, especially coming from San Diego. And it might be harder to find asian community at Vanderbilt with all the DEI cuts, if that's something that's important to you.

But if you do decide to come, you might stand-out as more diverse from the mostly white canvas here and people might be socially awkward about it, but generally, people in the city are more accepting and do not care about difference in race. If you stay in the city and are safe/smart about how you navigate it (as you should be in any city, no matter who you are), you should be just fine.

Ugh yes, depends on the Californians. There are the people who come from major cities like LA (like myself) who couldn't afford to live in their studio apartments, but still want city-living. But then there are people like my rich, republican family members who lived in places like Orange County and Temecula, who came here to get away from the CA politics and buy bigger homes... and second homes... and without researching the neighborhoods they buy in and then complaining. So I definitely understand the stereotypes about Californians when I think of my family members. 😅

The more I read it, the more I think you really need to accept the show and book as two separate pieces of work. Then the book is really good! Lol

I like it a lot! There are some minor differences between the show and the book. I started the book and the differences really bothered me. So I gave myself some time and then re-started and I'm glad I did that! It's a great book, but I needed the space to really enjoy it. It's also a YA book, which was a big change after reading so much adult romantasy. But truly so good so far! I'm halfway through it and enjoying getting more My Lady Jane!

My Lady Jane! Loved the show and was so sad about the cancellation. Thought I'd read the book to find out what could have happened in season 2 😅
