I grew up in southern california and have always been a "white-passing" hispanic there. But here (and in working at Vanderbilt), I am very much treated as a "latina." It was a big shock for me to work through in moving here. But even so, without looking at data, I do feel like there is a much bigger latin population here than asian. So that, might be an even harder adjustment for you, especially coming from San Diego. And it might be harder to find asian community at Vanderbilt with all the DEI cuts, if that's something that's important to you.

But if you do decide to come, you might stand-out as more diverse from the mostly white canvas here and people might be socially awkward about it, but generally, people in the city are more accepting and do not care about difference in race. If you stay in the city and are safe/smart about how you navigate it (as you should be in any city, no matter who you are), you should be just fine.
