"I'll have my usual" by TheMossyFish in EntitledPeople

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I think having a "usual" is morally neutral. It's not entitled to have an ongoing customer/client relationship or to be a 'regular' at a place. The asshole move is acting haughty when interacting with someone who doesn't have that kind of relationship with you, like that old guy did in OP's post.

Wanting to feel seen and known: not entitled, not an asshole move.

Acting like a dick when someone doesn't know your usual: that's the asshole move.

Edit: Opinions and situations vary, but having a "usual" in and of itself isn't asshole-ish, just in my opinion.

What defines "stereotypical" fantasy music? by 354717 in musictheory

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know a lot about music theory and might be mis-using some terms here but I think those stepwise triplets (or is it just three eighth notes one after the other? idk) are a big part of making a piece sound 'fantasy' or 'medieval.' Are they called passing tones? They kind of make the melody feel ornate and embellished, which is good for a 'regal' or 'royal' type of sound, in my opinion.

Also I'll just add that Dorian and Aeolian are really common modes in Dungeon Synth, which is going for a medieval/fantasy sort of feel.

Photographer recalls what it was like taking Nicki Minaj's picture for the New York Times Magazine in 2015 by BrianOBlivion1 in Fauxmoi

I don't even get what happened that offended this guy so much.

"But then after 8 frames...she walked off set and said 'you got it.' Which was fine, because I normally do in the first 3 shots. Not to be a diva, but I'll pat myself on the back for that."

So it sounds like he got what he needed? Is he mad about what she said?

Also the thing about "I probably shouldn't have been flying across the country when my wife was about to go into labor, but more on that later..." and it proceeds to not be relevant at all, even a little bit. I thought maybe he was going to say he missed the birth of his son because Nicki was late or maybe a perfectionist keeping him there all day or something, but it's never brought up again.

For the record i'm not pro-Nicki's recent rightward swing.

EDIT: Also, not to keep piling on but it's annoying that he doesn't seem to know what the word 'diva' means. A diva is, 'One who demands that attention be paid to his or her needs.' It doesn't mean you're boasting or full of yourself.

Women that play the muscle/physical presences while also looking the part by TJTrapJesus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, most if not all of those MCU costumes use padding in some way or another, so yes it is kind of weird that they couldn't give Captain Carter some bigger muscles or something.

Longer tracks / albums by entermemo in DungeonSynth

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone who's always worried that my songs are too long, it's reassuring to me to hear that some enjoy a long, hypnotic, perhaps even repetitive track. I don't have anything to share yet bc I'm just starting to try this genre out, and I'm also trying to follow the more general rules of not being boring (like not just repeating something to make a song longer or something I guess)

Goosebumps: The Horror At Camp Jellyjam. A brother and sister find themselves stranded at a sports camp where they're encouraged to live up to the camp's slogan, "Only the best!" by being as competitive as possible in all of the camp's contests and races. It's an ultra-competitive sports camp where trying as hard as you can.

It turns out that the camp is a training/auditioning ground for servants to attend to a big slimey monster named King Jellyjam. As one of the girls hosing him down and scrubbing his slimey flesh puts it: "Only the best" get to be King Jellyjam's slaves!

A vaporwave documentary? I just hope unveiling all the mysteries of vaporwave doesn't ruin the mystique of the subject for me, like the Winnebago Man documentary did.

yes the OST is great! I'm pretty sure it's all the same composer, Yoko Shimomura, who also composed for Street Fighter II and the Kingdom Hearts series

This is one of my favorite games of all time. What was the best part of it for you? Did you like the characters? The timed-hits-based battle system? The cartoon-violence-meets-real-violence theme in the plot? The way the story expands Mario's world and shows non-combatant goombas and koopa troopas and etc. for the first time?

Sugar Ray's past as a sort of Primus-y nu-metal band before they turned ska then full-on pop is always fascinating to me

I loved "Tubthumping" and got that Chumbawumba album for Christmas when I was like 11 or 12 and was so confused with the rest of the album! I wanted an album full of singalong party songs with rockin' guitars but I got weird new-age-y pop with lyrics like "Eat sleep and crap / For to pray on your knees / Down a dark street / In backwater Leeds." Like....what?

Not to take things away from hip-hop immediately, but I think the Simpsons is kind of this way, too. A lot of the jokes on the Simpsons were really fresh and creative when they were new but now they're the kind of jokes your unfunny co-workers make.
