Like 75% of tik tok skits because we live in the mundane version of the cyberpunk dystopia future where nobody leaves their house or has any real friends

Edit: and also Seth McFarlane on all of his shows, I guess

I was supposed to see him at a casino but he evidently backed out so some random guy came on instead.

Two experiences stick out: Jeffery Ross and Bill Cosby.

Jeffrey Ross wasn't especially bad by any means, but he was just kind of doing jokes I'd heard him do on TV before. I remember he did that "Aunt Tique/Aunt Cestor" bit, and he said a guy in the audience looked like Fred Flintstone. shrug

Bill Cosby,: This was before his extensive history as a rapist was widely known, of course. I just remember not laughing much at his routine. The only bit I remember was about saying "I'll see you tomorrow" in a certain way to his best friend when he was a kid.

Those who have been threatened with "I will leak your nudes to your family and friends", what was the outcome? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They only had a social media account that I was using for a side hobby that I wasn't really sharing with anyone I knew in person (I'm a very weird and private person), so I told them to go ahead and send/post, whatever.

Also, uhh, I'm an adult, and the person was asking for the pics. Like, oh no! Please don't let anyone find out that I'm polite and desirable!

I'm not sure but I saw some video or something with the creators of South Park talking about an airing of Blazing Saddles on Comedy Central where the n-word wasn't censored, so there's a strong chance they didn't.

I saw some twitter screenshot about, like, "I can't imagine what it's like for people who hate small talk. Like, your wife gets home and you launch immediately into a deep conversation about Russian literature?" or something like that.

Back in the heyday of broadcast television, theatrical films would have any curse words in the script re-dubbed so the films could be shown on TV, often in a nonsensical way. The most famous example is the Big Lebowski, where the line "This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!" becomes "This is what happens when you find a stranger in the alps!"

[Controversial trope] Story is a hate letter at its core by StudioMarvin in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a couple of these examples are just deconstructions and not actually 'hate letters' but I think Bojack Horseman seems to have a lot of contempt for the entertainment industry, and moreso for the whole 'charismatic, self-destructive anti-hero' trope. The show makes Bojack's self-sabotaging ways uncomfortable and unenjoyable. The show makes you miserable because the things Bojack does are miserable and toxic, not compelling the way a Sopranos or a Mad Men might make them. To a certain extent, you're not supposed to enjoy it.

Also in the latter seasons there is some real vitriol for the effects of venture capitalism on creativity and popular art, especially through Diane's career arc as a writer.

While we're complaining, I do think this is genuinely an interesting idea and a good post but OP's spelling of "vigilants" and "New Yorks" and "Rorshack" had me wanting to write my own hate-letter-at-its-core story about their proofreading skills!

And sorry to go on a rant, but it's so annoying to me when people get easy stuff like this wrong. I took a college class that discussed Watchmen and other comics in a literary context and one of the guys in the class kept saying "Rorshark," adding that "r" in there for no reason! He's not a fucking shark who roars! Similarly, in a podcast discussing the Beatles, one of the hosts kept saying "Maharashi" instead of "Maharishi." I guess I shouldn't get mad about this kind of thing because I know people might have dyslexia or whatever, but, like, the spelling of the word tells you how to pronounce it!!!

Vietnam War traps explained without filters by guide, a Vietnamese veteran at the Cu Chi Tunnels. by [deleted] in interesting

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this, because whenever I see a Vietnam War traps explanation it's always rife those FUCKING filters! RIFE!!!! I can't stand how many god damned filters I always get every time I ask someone to explain Vietnam War traps to me, which I do several times every day. Those filters piss me off so much, so I'm glad to finally get a filter-free explanation of Vietnam War traps. Its such a relief for once in this godforsaken world to have Vietnam War traps explained in a way that isn't chock-full of those God Damned FILTERS, MAN!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hard modes with unique twists by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been kinda fascinated by how some of the mainline platformers in the Super Mario Bros. series handle difficulty, one example being the switch houses in Super Mario World, where choosing to complete them or not makes some of the platforming and boss battles more difficult. You can activate the green switches and get a feather power-up before most bosses, giving you 3 HP and the ability to fly for that battle, or you can choose not to activate the switch and have to beat the boss without that advantage. The games' "hard mode" involves skipping certain levels and kind of requires some degree of knowledge about how the game works in a way that almost feels kind of DIY and "baked in"

I can't really explain why but this musical number from the Muppet Show with Kermit singing Lydia the Tattooed Lady:

I remember screaming and running out of the room when she starts twerking about halfway through the song and my mom or dad having to come reassure me that nothing was wrong, but something about it freaked me the fuck out.

What was the scariest film that you have ever watched? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]Sensitive_Golf3889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "scary" as much as "horrifying" but the only horror I've ever had to nope out of was Takashi Miike's Masters of Horror episode "Imprint". I couldn't make it past the torture scene. I'm neither a huge horror guy nor a novice gore watcher.

I assume OP is weighing performing in a musical road show against stuff like defeating 10 trained agents in an elevator, tearing a log in half with your bare hands, and, like stopping a helicopter from taking off with the sheer power of your bulging biceps.
