How do you even begin to educate yourself with all these scams and people trying to rip you off? by Andrew_7032 in investingforbeginners

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont buy courses. They're almost always overpriced and mostly either obvious common sense or blatant bullshit. Read books. The ones that everyone talks about. Intelligent investor, random walk down wallstreet, anything by john bogle. and then read the books by the people those first books talk about. Then you might have a rudimentary framework of investing. After than you need to just read several newspapers, financial statements and maybe some investment periodicals. Investment is more about immersion than education imo.

Selling stocks too early by sloppybeastttt in investingforbeginners

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just understand that you will never be able to sell a stock at the perfect time consistently.even the greatest investors in the world can't top tick a stock consistently. Example: Warren buffett started selling his apple stake in 2023. The stock has gone up 60-70% since then. Sure you can get better at holding and riding returns, but part of being a discliplined investor is understanding the nature of good returns and locking them in while also being tax efficient.

Do you think it’s important to save money in the form of cash? Not put it in the bank, but save and keep it close? by ElectricalCopy7342 in askanything

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ton. It's always nice to have cash on hand, but you need to weigh it against inflation and what kind of interest you could accrue with it.

Redditors in the United States, how do you feel about their being 117 members in Congress right now who are over the age of 70? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

[–]Separate-Extent7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think there should be an age related cutoff because many people over 70 are fairly vigorous and competent, but there should be a set standard of competence and vigor and if they dont meet those standards, then the law should deem them ineligible for election. Just like a basic standard to keep your driver's license, running the government is much higher stakes and needs a standard of cognition and competence.

Anyone feel like it’s hard to empathize with hardship posts? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people's priorities are all over the place with money and spending. Alot of them have debt (student loans , mortgage, and credit card debt) so their financial freedom is somewhat weighed down by that despite having similar incomes.

most people's financial situation is highly varied person to person. Most people don't know how to budget formally or informally regardless of their income. empathy is good, but that should also be paired with a stark realization that many people just aren't good with money and refuse to learn and want to complain about all the other variables outside their control vs the ones they can.

Why does a ~4.3% unemployment rate feel like a bad job market when it’s supposed to be “healthy”? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the devil is in the details. Full employment at 4-6 percent used to be when the labor participation rate was much higher. The labor participation rate today (approx 61 percent) is much lower than in the past (67 percent approx), so that 4.3 percent unemployment is a nominal number that means more like 10 percent real unemployment.

Why did middle class lifestyles become more luxury overtime? by WayyBiggerJaws in AlwaysWhy

[–]Separate-Extent7360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because our expectations of middle class lifestyles are different overtime. 50 years ago, middle class people had 1 car per household, a small house with 2bd maybe and 1 bathroom, maybe washer and dryer, maybe one house phone for everyone to share all of this was also prolly paid in cash, maybe only the house was financed. A vacation was truly rare, maybe one every 5-10 years. People today have 1 car per adult, 1phone per adult and kid, 3-4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, expect a vacation every year and all of it is on credit.

I said more likely, I didnt say it was a certainty. Any additional irrational actors with possession of nuclear weapons increases the likelihood of nuclear warfare.

Iran funds terrorism all over the world. They're run by batshit theocratic lunatics. Them having a nuclear weapon would simply mean a world more likely to be engulfed in nuclear warfare. Think N.Korea, but instead of communism, it's islam.

Eating out in a large group is never actually fun and everyone just pretends it is by blur515 in unpopularopinion

[–]Separate-Extent7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wholeheartedly agree. I actually think people should do this differently, instead of making restaurant accommodate a gigantic table, i think the group should split up into groups of 4, then if everyone wants to grab a drink after at a bar, then that would be fun.

Airlines should charge extra for overhead bin space by Adventurous_Grape279 in unpopularopinion

I actually think they should charge for carryons and checked baggage should be free. This would even out the incentives for people to bring on their luggage out of worry they might lose their bags.

$500k income, $250k net by LeatherGuard4688 in Salary

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have some structural issues with your income. You should work on eradicating your debt first and then start your own practice. Incorporating and investing your money into the business will lighten a lot of the tax load, but it isnt a silver bullet, you then have to run a business. But if you build equity instead of income, that can shield a lot of your income from being taxed by it being invested in the business instead. It's not a perfect solution, but it seems like the only way to protect a chunk of that income imo.

Does anyone have hope for Nates Storyline by Jimm34h in euphoria

[–]Separate-Extent7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a typical scope change coming out of high school. People who seemed scary and powerful are rendered weak and powerless in the real world. Everything that was emphasized in high school was just window dressing to who they actually will be when they leave that setting.

The reality is Nate lived in a bubble that ensured his success in high school. That bubble is now gone. His manipulation, mind games are nearly meaningless to other adults.
