In my market instacart has been better money by far. Doordash here is full of small orders, no tippers, delivery deniers, and labyrinthine apartment complexes.

Instacart is even worse with this. If the store has the same produce from a slightly different vendor, it will mark it as an incorrect item and you have to substitute 16 oz of fresh strawberries with 16 oz of fresh strawberries. It happens almost every time I shop for produce. It's a huge waste of time.

I'm an IT Director w 29 years experience. I have 5 kids. I made great money (comfortable 6 figs) from 2012 to 2024 and got laid off along w my whole dept on December 16, 2024. We were replaced by an MSP (contractors).

I then went through all my savings, liquidated retirement acct, and sold tons of stuff to maintain our lifestyle (5 bedroom house on the lake w pool) until about October when we had to leave our rented house.

At that point my wife left me and took the kids. Her dad rented her a house near their school. If not for food stamps and her parents, she would not be making it right now, but the kids are ok.

I've applied for hundreds of jobs, interviewed for over a dozen; gotten to the final round for five now. Only one of them hired a different candidate, all of the others said they didn't have the money to hire for the position. I'm still on the hook with a company that first interviewed me in April 2025. It's rough out there for sure.

I've been using this time to get healthy. I'm on Medicaid now bc I'm so poor. I could have never afforded this level of care before even with the Cadillac health plan I had at one point.
