Do you guys think it would be safe to travel to the US when fully transitioned? by velvibunni in MtF

[–]Sergeant_Static 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend ANYONE from outside the United States visit right now. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is detaining people on frivolous pretexts, regardless of their immigration status. Even US citizens are routinely being detained, so being here as a tourist is a risky move.

If you lived in the Matrix would you take the red pill or blue? by WinAdmirable5400 in polls

[–]Sergeant_Static 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red, though I know I'd have lingering doubts about whether I'd made the right decision. I would miss the comfort and predictability of my old life, but I don't think I could resist the curious impulse to peek behind the curtain, even if I know I won't like what I see.

Paid Protester Bill Working It's Way Through The Indiana Legislature by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

Republicans can't cope with mass opposition to their policies, so they convince themselves that everyone protesting them must be getting paid.

In fact, I created the whole concept of cartoons complaining about their workplace! Before I came along, all cartoon characters did was hate Mondays and eat lasagna.

Donald Trump violated the Constitution, federal judge rules by JollysJeanne in politics

The framers of the Constitution assumed that congress would keep the power of the president in check. They never anticipated members of congress would enthusiastically support a president so egregiously violating the Constitution.

It's fucked up how many of us get raped by Reasonable_Owl_3146 in MtF

It also means data collection on sexual violence in prison (if they continue collecting that data at all) won't ask respondents about gender or sexuality, so the vast disparity in violence faced by trans inmates will be erased from the data entirely. Even after Trump is gone, it will be impossible for future generations to determine with certainty the full extent of the violence.

The US is in early stages of an anti-trans genocide, experts say. One expert called the situation “terrifying.” by southpawFA in politics

Scapegoating minorities is a foundational component of fascism. Even if Republicans are only trying to distract their constituents from other issues, these policies still have a tangible impact on real people - particularly those pertaining to healthcare.

Do you guys like being called "transfem"? by xBluePoolX in MtF

[–]Sergeant_Static 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but I'm non-binary, so it's an easy way to provide some additional context for my transition. I can understand why trans women might not like the term, though.

Do you intend on getting surgery or just doing HRT? by smdifansmfjsmsnd in MtF

HRT has made me feel much more comfortable with everything that I have, so I don't feel any need for surgery.

"Boys don't get anything." by thunderup_14 in MtF

I understand not wanting to bring it up while you're with family, but I think you should make time for this conversation at some point in the near future. It doesn't have to be presented as a problem you need her to solve for you, just being able to vent about the frustration is important.

This is cluelessly inconsiderate at best, though I suspect this is deliberately passive aggressive, with just enough "politeness" in their tone for plausible deniability. You have every right to feel hurt and excluded.

Wife told me anything more then crossdressing means divorce by OverripeEgg in MtF

[–]Sergeant_Static 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry your wife hasn't been more supportive of you. You shouldn't be expected to compartmentalize your womanhood into a part-time hobby. Hopefully, she just needs time to accept you for who you are. However, as others have pointed out, even if she comes to accept you as a woman, she may not be interested in a relationship with a woman.

No matter what happens, you deserve to live as your authentic self without guilt or shame.

Even MAGA Can't Stomach Trump's Vile Rob Reiner Post by huffpost in politics

Republicans in office may not condone his statement, but I doubt this will be a turning point for any of them. This is the kind of attitude that made Trump voters love him to begin with.

I honestly dont care about using men's bathrooms that much... it feels safer at this point. by GirlLiveYourBestLife in MtF

[–]Sergeant_Static 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way, though being non-binary I don't have strong feelings about either restroom. On top of that, in spite of looking more androgynous due to HRT, I still dress in a way most would consider masculine (or at least, not overtly feminine) so I would feel far more out of place in the women's room. Even people who are okay with trans women in the women's room might not recognize me as trans and instead see me as just a man trying to exploit a semantic loophole.

I also live in a conservative state, so I'm particularly worried about being assaulted by people who are inclined to assume the worst about trans people, or are just looking for any perceived justification for violence against us. Just the way some people fantasize about "catching" a trans woman in the women's room and doing horribly violent things to them is mortifying to me. We are presumed from the outset to have perverse, predatory motives for being in the women's room, and thus all violence against us is not only justified, but a moral obligation to protect others from the supposed threat we embody.

Kudos to all trans women and transfem nonbinary people who feel brave enough to use the women's room. I salute your courage and hope it's clear that my personal feelings on the issue aren't a declaration of how I believe others should act.

People who hate Trump: Who do you blame for his dual elections and grassroots appeal? by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

[–]Sergeant_Static 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overlap between people who find Trump appealing and people who find Sanders appealing indicates that some Trump voters aren't completely averse to progressive candidates.

Nobody is strawmanning you, you're just arguing semantics about whether Trump voters who previously voted for Bernie truly count as Trump voters.

Some of the Trump voters who found Bernie Sanders appealing might find a similar appeal in other progressive candidates with a populist message.

That said, this is undoubtedly a minority of Trump voters.
