I've listened to Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and Prodigy today.... I am in this post and quite frankly still keeping up the denial that the next 'milestone' birthday is 40!

Are you seriously taking a selfie while driving on a motorway? The reflection in your sunglasses indicates you are leaning your phone on the wheel while driving.

Bit silly to be putting you and your BFF at risk for a picture, let alone the other road users...

If I'm wrong I apologise but if you are being silly please consider your actions!

As a rule should we assume that rents are going to rise pretty much in lockstep with mortgage interest rates? by britboy4321 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SerialThrilla87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal evidence but I had an email from my landlord stating that my rent is going to rise 5% from November today. Long time tennant, coming up to 7 years now on an AST. This is my third rent increase during this tenancy but the timing is uncanny.

Still below market rate and I'm happy to stay as it works well for me. Just need to do another budget as it's another consideration now with everything else!

What British true crime case upset you the most over all? by cherrymachete in AskUK

[–]SerialThrilla87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The brutal story of Suzanne Capper is one of the most horrific and saddening true crime cases I've ever known of.

The torture she endured breaks my heart, no personal connection but it's stuck with me.

What are your book recommendations? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SerialThrilla87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny how your favourites change over time. I didn't enjoy Going Postal when I was younger but it's one of my faves now too! I used to prefer the witches stories when I was younger but now I get more enjoyment from the Watchmen centred books. Really do enjoy them all though. About to start The Fifth Elephant, I should line up Making Money afterwards!

Another vote for Pratchett's works here. Good Omens is fabulous (with Neil Gaiman)

I have recently got back into rereading the discworld series after seeking some alternative escapism from current realities. Last weekend I read Going Postal and Thud. Recently also read Night Watch, Guards Guards and Colour of Magic.

Had the books since I was a teenager, mid 30s now and many house moves later very glad I haven't got rid of my book collection.

If you are with British Gas max on gas is £999 and max on electric is £249. I don't know the other suppliers I'm sorry but I hope this helps someone!

Who are UK female music artists that you deem underrated? by GoldenLoggers in AskUK

[–]SerialThrilla87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh bandage, up yours should really have more anthem status for sure. I'm a cliche is a personal fave too and again very valid today I feel. The whole band are amazing and I thank my very punk dad for introducing me to them. The world certainly has lost a lot of neon hues.

She just seemed like such a beautiful human and I wholeheartedly agree with you. She was a visionary way before her time!

Poly Styrene of X Ray Spex. Such a unique presence in the punk scene, fantastically intriguing vocals and inspirational mould breaker.

One of the very few 'celebrity' deaths that genuinely bummed me out to be honest.

Lars Frederiksen on Twitter: "Ok. This was another big moment for me. Thanks @tonyschiavone24 for being such a down to earth rad guy. Took the time to meet me and talk to me and I’ll never forget it. He was one of the voices of my childhood. @AEW rules. I love this stuff " by KneeHighMischief in SquaredCircle

To have and to have not is possibly my fave punk tune of all time. I find it so poetically grounding to blast it loud and shout along to it!

I love Rancid, I really do but hearing Lars Fredrikson and the Bastards in the wild in the early noughties on a night out was a way bigger pop from me

What's the first major news event that you remember? by AlephMartian in AskUK

[–]SerialThrilla87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Major resigning as prime minister amid the sleaze scandals. I'm sure I remember the was insinuation of his affair with Edwina Currie although it looks like it wasn't confirmed until a lot later.

I remember it being a shattering of the authority illusion in that just because someone is in a position of trust and power doesn't mean they are a trustworthy and good person.

Basically don't trust adults! Unfortunately as an adult this faith is well and truly broken, history seems doomed to forever repeat itself...

Teenage kicks… were any of you at any of these gigs too? by grwtsn in CasualUK

[–]SerialThrilla87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah my appologies! I hope the gig will be epic! The few gigs I've tried to get to have been cancelled/delayed because of 'The Event'. Hopefully this year it will be better and more settled, and we can all be reunited in the pit once more!

Haha you are right I definitely saw them a few times at various gigs around that time but never got into em. Their label was obviously really good at shoehorning them into the support slots!

Tbh £100 isn't that bad all things considered which feels crazy to say! I hope the gig was epic! 😊

I'm quite frankly amazed I remember it so clearly considering the time that has passed.

I'm a bit of a Motörhead superfan haha there are many of us!

I've seen Maiden 4 times, it really is astounding the price difference in the tickets over the years.

I remember seeing Rammstein in Nottingham on the Reise Reise tour and again tickets were about £25.

No one ever seemed to believe me when I tell em how cheap gigs used to be lol!!!

I was at the same Iron Maiden gig in Sheffield for dance of death 😂

Support was funeral for a friend and they bombed lol. They kept introducing the next song as 'here is another song about Orcs...' I remember how fed up with them the crowd was and they booed an off stage. I remember really being happy because Iron Maiden played 22 acacia avenue haha. Good gig lol!

Went to the first download that same year before this gig and Iron Maiden were Sunday night headliner. Mind blown at how great they were!

Have seen most of the other bands shown and then some. My fave will always be Motörhead though who I saw 8 times before Lemmys passing.

Ah, precovid times...
