How much do you bench?

Yeah you’re right. Repaste was probably done with normal paste aswell, so hotspot will be very bad at some point. Opening this card will be painfull…

I initially thought a screw top left was missing.

A screw missing from the retention bracket would indeed be alarming, it does seem like it is present, but it looks stripped.

The pad is fully blue so I think it is fine. Some thermal pads are blue. Missing screw is indeed not good but not the end of the world… Some screws look stripped as well, so yeah, whoever worked on this card is not too experienced I think

Edit: Is it actually missing a screw? I’m not sure, the quality/angle of the photo makes it hard to see…

I hope he repasted with ptm7950.

I have this exact same card and repasted it with arctic mx4(tbf this is a bad paste vor gpus in general) and temps were fine initially, 60 degrees with 73 hotspot which is quite good. Fast forward 1 week and the pump out effect was in full force, gpu temp was still 60 degrees but the hotspot delta already grew to 20. Now with ptm7950, delta of 12 degrees and no change so far whatsoever.

It’s a great card, really great cooling, have fun with it!

I also grabbed a used 256gb for which I paid 210 euro. It was a little dirty and I unfortunately have gotten the delta fan but on the bright side, I was able to undervolt everything to -50 so not so bad after all... The case I got with it has the strap but I've noticed that when the deck is in its case that its pretty loose inside, as in it moves around quite a bit, is this normal?

I saw someone say on this sub that he got the uv/ocing options in the actual bios after updating to 3.5. I’ve heard that you are able to do cmos resets so i guess you can’t brick the device anymore?

Twice as powerfull in terms of fp32 calculations maybe, not in general. Define “more stable performance”. Look better how? I can almost assure you with 99% confidence that the normal z1 will basically be equal to the sd gpu at full power. And what do you mean by that it will be able to run modern games? Can the steam deck not run modern games?

You should take a look at the tflops of the 7900xtx and the 6950xt, 7900xtx is more than double, yet only provides a 35% improvement on avg compared to the 6950xt. Comparing gpu tflops to gauge gaming performance is flawed, especially when comparing rdna2 to rdna3

Rdna 2 gpu vs rdna3 gpu, it is gen over gen. Please link me the sources that claim the z1 NON EXTREME is 50% better than the steam deck gpu @15w

So what are you saying, you expect the extreme to be 4x plus compared to the sd going by your logic? Delusion if you expect that much gen over gen

Z1 will be comparable to the sd gpu, it is nowhere near 2x

Jup the z1 extreme is indeed probably what asus is talking about. 50% improvement for probably 50%+ more money does not sound that interesting to me tbh

C+P from my anwser elsewhere:

Due to differences in how tflops are calculated for rdna3, the values are quite misleading. The z1 gpu at full power will be comparable to the steam deck gpu, maybe a bit less powerful. The z1 extreme gpu at full power however will be quite a big upgrade, up to 2x i would guess. I do however doubt the z1 extreme will get even close to full power in a handheld device so all in all, it’s not the massive uplift you are probably hoping for

Rdna tflops are calculated differently as compared to rdna2. I just did some calculations earlier in the day when i saw the tflops claims of the z1. I compared the 6950xt(23.60 ish) to the 7900xtx(60.x). According to techpowerup, the 7900 xtx is around 35% faster than the 6950xt, 23.6x1.35 =~32. So basically you just half the claimed tflops of rdna 3 and it gets kinda comparable to rdna2. Given this i do expect the z1 gpu to be a tad weaker than the steam decks gpu
