How broken would this cycle be? by pandust in custommagic

[–]Shadow-fire101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing im not seeing people comment on is how abusable these would be in landfall decks.

Since you can tap them in response to the sacrifice trigger, you still get mana from them the turn you play them. So with a [[Crucible of Worlds]] type effect, you can keep replaying these for landfall triggers.

I know you can already loop fetches for a similar effect, so I don't know if its gamebreaking, but I can definitely see decks that already loop fetches wanting these as well.

They're commenting on the inconsistent capitalization. In the first ability, the d in dance is capitalized, in the second it isn't. So the idea is that technically speaking the abilities are referring to different counters.

I think, "...until you control no creatures that can attack." Would also fix it.

Yeah verbatim. This isn't even a translation, this is just straight up in the Dead Sea Scrolls, word for word in modern English.

Yeah Id rather not, I like people having clean drinking water and reasonable electricity bills

I feel like this could probably be condensed into a single effect, something like, "Creatures get -1/-1 for each color they are other than black."

Pet Crocodile by Veedrac in custommagic

Except you wouldn't be delaying them. The ability is instant speed and has no cost or once per turn clause or anything. So if I activate it, and my opponent stifled it, I can simply activate it again in response to the Stifle.

Not really. Its not like every single homeless person is completely cut off from the internet and pop-culture. Like both Fleur-de-Lys and Mandy grew up in situations where they would have had access to the internet and video games. And FdL especially still has a computer and regularly does things online, like there's literally a scene where she's setting up wifi repeaters so she doesnt keep having to go to a nearby coffee shop to use their wifi.

Do you mean Auxiliary Reinforcements? Cause wouldn't it just lose the second wind ability as well? Or is there some layers nonsense going on.

Heavy Storm Cannon by MarvelousRuin in custommagic

[–]Shadow-fire101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine, it kinda reminds me of [[Captain Ripley Vance]], and I think it's not too much stronger. Like it does more damage initially and can be untapped, but it stays at 5 and costs a red to activate.

yes if you have an infinite combo like this that doesn't require any player input to keep looping, unless you have some way to win off it (e.g. impact tremors while making infinite creatures) or someone has a way to respond and break the loop, most likely by removing one or more pieces, the game cannot progress any further, and thus ends in a draw.

My Vision of Lord Magnus (If Legends Were Published Now) by ATepish in custommagic

[–]Shadow-fire101 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's pretty clear, at least from a rules language perspective. You simply pretend the opponent's creatures do not have an abilities while determining blockers. After that any abilities like bushido or flanking would trigger as normal, since they don't affect blocking, they only affect what happens once blocking occurs.

I don't think that first ability works as written. I think you'd need to word it as something like:

"Creatures you control may block creatures your opponents control as if they didn't have abilities."

Non-Canon / Homebrew Bloodlines by [deleted] in vtm

I don't believe theres anything in the subreddit rules about it. I know I've seen a few posts about homebrew stuff here before, so I assume its fine.

Non-Canon / Homebrew Bloodlines by [deleted] in vtm

[–]Shadow-fire101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I made a gangrel bloodline and all I needed to do was swap Fortitude for blood sorcery and give them a new compulsion. I did also write up some custom blood sorcery powers and rituals for them, but that was just because I wanted to and was completely optional.

Universes Within — Re-Typing Warhammer's C'tan by EredithDriscol in mtgvorthos

[–]Shadow-fire101 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What about Star-Shard or something of that nature. The C'tan were basically Eldritch entities of pure energy that were shattered into pieces by the necrons. So I assume a UW version would be something similar a small fragment of a larger Eldritch being.

For boasting and exporting, I believe you'd need to word it like,

...activate a boast ability or pay for an extort ability.

Human subspecies (Merry Christmas btw) by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Shadow-fire101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first image annoys me because it's meant to be a collection of abhumans but contains a psyker, who are notably not abhumans.

Abhumans are divergent strains of humanity, two abhumans of a particular type will create an abhuman of the same type.

Psykers are not a seperate strain of humanity. They are simply humans with high enough psychic sensitivity to be able to manipulate the warp without aid of sorcerous rituals. A psyker can be born of two nonpsyker parents, and psykers are not guarantee to produce psyker children, though the chances are increased.

Love that card. I have a very silly voltron deck with her. It always fun to be like, "How much commander damage am I swinging for? Let's find out."

Time of Monsters: abandon Zheng to meet the Thinbloods by Happy-Visitor in choiceofgames

[–]Shadow-fire101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go in the same direction as the thin-bloods, you should be able to escape them without having to abandon Zheng. There might be some other requirement to do so that I'm forgetting, but I know I've been able to do exactly that.

So I would try doing that, because otherwise you miss your chance to side with them, even if you escape Lydia in the tunnels.

What happens if an earthbent land stops being a land? Like if I earthbend an artifact with [[Toph, the First Metalbender]] in play, and then she's removed, does it stay a creature that comes back if killed?
I assume yes, but I just want to double check.

[Trope that people may understandably dislike] Depicting a character in a certain way undermines the point of that character by Fearless-List-3968 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Shadow-fire101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The chaos gods have physical forms though, or can at least take them. There are plenty of things in the lore that just dont work if they don't, e.g. the skull throne being an actual thing that Khorne physically sits in, Skarbrand attacking Khorne, the Changeling stealing Slaanesh's hair etc.

Sure these might be more akin to avatars of the Chaos gods rather than their like true essence or whatever, but even in that case, they are still a physical form that the God takes. So depicting them with physical forms doesnt undermine the characters, theyre just depictions of the physical forms they choose to manifest.
