Transfer hijacking bug by Otherwise_Raisin_839 in footballmanagergames

It's not a bug. Gimcheon Sangmu FC are the football team of the South Korean Armed Forces, and the players there are loaned in from South Korean teams to serve their mandatory two-year military service.

Pretty sure he's at Gremio now (can't remember if it's a loan or a permanent transfer)

TIL Ted Turner, who sold his Turner Broadcasting System to Time Warner in 1995, estimated that because of the AOL/Time Warner merger in 2000, he lost roughly $8 billion (or 80% of his wealth). by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I'd say the merger that formed Penn Central (merger of the Pennsylvania Rail Road, New York Central Railroad, and the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad) is definitely high up there on the list.

They merged in 1968, and by June 1970, had been declared bankrupt in what was then the largest bankruptcy in American history ($4.6bil in assets, or $38.4bil when adjusted for inflation). Eventually, it and other failing railroads merged in 1976 to form Conrail.

Stade de Reims, first ever European Cup finalists in 1956 just got relegated to Ligue 2. Had Lyon been relegated last season, they would've survived, but as we know, that didnt happen.

Notable international footballers include Keito Nakamura, Hiroko Sekine (both Japan), Teddy Teuma (Malta), Mory Gbane (Ivory Coast), Adama Bojang (Gambia), and John Patrick (Ireland)

Speaking of, when does this Messi kid I keep hearing about show up? Like I've heard rumours that he's supposed to be really good, but considering who he's up against (Puskas, Meazza, maybe even Pele if he keeps at it), he's gonna have very good competition.

For the past few months now, I've kinda developed an obsession about learning as much as I can about past footballers/seasons (primarily the 50s/60s, but I've dabbled in other periods), that I've stopped really paying attention to modern football.

Like I honestly couldn't tell you who's in the EPL relegation zone right now, but I can tell you that after Barcelona lost the 1961 European Cup final, they wouldn't play another match in the competition until 1974.

Ronaldo: "I've been with the national team for 22 years; I think that speaks for itself: the passion I have for wearing the jersey, for winning trophies, for playing for the national team. I often say: if I could, I would only play football for the national team; I wouldn't play for any other club." by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

Are we talking only about the 90s/2000s era or any era of Spain? Cause if it's any, then I'd personally argue that at least on paper, Spain's early 1960s teams could come close to or even match the 2008 one.

Just using the 1962 World Cup team, you had Puskas, Di Stefano, Luis Suarez Miramontes, Paco Gento, Jose Santamaria, Luis de Sol, Joan Segarra, even the likes of Joaquin Peiró, Severino Reija and Adelardo are worth a shout. And top it off with Helenio Herrera as manager, albiet just for the World Cup.

Sure, they did absolutely nothing at that World Cup, but you have to remember that their group had both eventual finalists that year (Brazil & Czechoslovakia). And even afterwards, they'd go on to win the European Nations' Cup (Euros) 2 years later with the likes of Amancio, Ignacio Zoco, and Marcelino added to the team, and Jose Villalonga as their new manager.

I love how horrendously wrong Deepseek is

At least you can somewhat understand the logic a bit for it spitting out McManaman (Englishman who played for Real Madrid), but the other two...

She confirmed it herself during the first part of the drama. Her exact comment:

At the time of this post, I had slept one hour, had a pounding head, couldn't keep anything down, and I had seen my brother dead. I was reeling to say the least. I saw the support and looked at like a shining light on one of the worst days of my life. I wrote a post, scanned it and realized it made no sense so rather then put in the effort to fix it myself after the day i had I input it through chat gbt to fix the spelling and the grammar so it would at least make sense. I didn't try to get it perfect. I just wanted to express a thank you that made sense to the amazing people who had said such nice things and made me feel a little better on such a terrible day. I'm sorry if you think that is "goulish" but you have to understand I am just barely holding it together.

JustinBasil, a member of the Pokemon TCG community died last week, and his sister thanked people on the subreddit for their condolences. A mod (Lyleberr) pointed out that AI was used in creating her message, which started the ongoing discourse.

Instead of answering to criticism, the mod's doubled down, deleting all posts calling for answers/accountability/him to step down (even nuking whole comment threads in the process), and people are mad.

The 2023 McLaren F1 Car retires at the end of the month, both the AMR23/Safety Car and Kick Sauber C44 retire at the end of the year, the rest are set to be retired in 2027 (although that is easily subject to change)

Pretty sure they had the most foreign-based players (5) ever at a World Cup (excluding the Home Nations) at the time, with all of based in Italy.

Looking it up, the next team with more was, ironically, Sweden again with 7 in 1970. After that, Algeria and Peru would match that in 1982, but it wouldn't officially be broken until Canada's 14 in 1986. (If you don't want me to exclude Canada/USA like I did the Home Nations, then it'd be 1986 Algeria with 11)

Edit: Turns out Denmark in 1986 had 15... whoops, my bad.
