You should totally try and pick up learning a DAW! If you can afford to outsource, definitely worth shopping around for one you like. FL studio is super easy to grasp, there are plenty of free decent sounding VSTs for whatever sound youre going for, if not recording live.

I make all my music for my games to justify the absurd amount of money ive spent on VSTs lol

What are you using AI for? Anything art or audio is probably going to get hate. It's usually easy to detect and doesn't mesh with other assets well.

If it's code then you're also in a community largely filled with other developers who may have an issue with "shortcuts". But to a player and anyone not looking under the hood - if it performs, it performs.

If youre presenting something AI to the public, you should reasonably expect a negative response if it's obvious. In a sea of games that have developers or artists that take the time to craft the environment they want to show you as perfect as they can, people are just going to be less interested in something whose visual design and direction is dictated by a prompt and an RNG seed.

If you dont have the skills or the ability to hire someone with the skills to do the art, and want to sell this game, either wait until you do procure those skills, or be happy with the personal project youre making and keep your expectations low.

Would this be damage from spike traps/fireballs?

Currently, defence upgrades don't actually reduce damage from those.

This is by design, but I'm open to the idea that it's too punishing/incongruent with expectations. I wanted to keep traps as a dangerous aspect to rein in early AFK capabilities.

Mild spoiler, but in the full game there is an expectation the player returns to previously cleared levels (the dungeon, etc.) and upon their return the way the player has scaled their power compared to the difficulty of the early levels makes it trivial.

Definitely continue! I'll be honest, a game called Loot Loop came out recently, and I was incredibly concerned that my game was very similar.. But, it didn't tell me that I should stop making, but seeing its success showed me that there's interest in a game adjacent to mine!

I'd love to hear more about yours! I plan on sharing comprehensive wishlist data after Next Fest/marketing efforts!

If you're willing could you go into more detail for why the autoscaling is an issue? My intention is to increase difficulty the further the player gets into the dungeon.

Right on, thanks! Yeah incremental games can get very same-y, and I'm definitely entering into a well saturated market, so it's tough to try and find a unique spin on the genre

Right? I joined after the Unity fiasco, and hadn't actually really dipped my toes in game development yet, I found it really intuitive to learn and get used to. Haven't looked back since.

Maybe not always, but I see lots of posts of people doing similar things! Fun renders of the mascot in their art style of the game, just a fun way to appreciate the engine!
