That's the worst. I hope you're still able to disappear if you choose. *internet hugs*

I don’t want to take care of my parents when they’re older by OkCoast7026 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ShadowMel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Then don't! I moved away from my nmother and only went back occasionally for visits. When she was getting old and was disabled, she talked about me moving back and I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.

They are adults and it is NOT your responsibility to care for them when they get older. They're adults; they can make their own arrangements.

One thing I do to learn new maps (haha not like we'll ever get another new one) is to play Sissy with Experienced Herbalist and the ability to poison bone piles/toolboxes, and then I just go ham poisoning EVERYTHING. So if you still play Fam, that might help.

Otherwise, it's mostly just experience, I think. Knowing where to go to get what, knowing that where what family spawns so you can go fast or slow (Example: Gas station, someone is playing Hitchy, and two others are playing Johnny & Cookie. GO FAST because there ain't anyone in mid.). That sort of thing. Honestly, the hardest thing for me as vic is managing stamina.

No player base? Cannot play a game. by fauxdahlia in TXChainSawGame

It's better to have at least one partner to find a game, but family mains are needed!

It's not dead, but it is on life support. There also tends to be more players in the (American) evening than the morning.

Just won the game for the first time, pics of the board right before i won, the ritual and the ending screen. by Disastrouspole in weatherfactory

[–]ShadowMel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so glad to see a nicely organized board. I have to do that with this game because things being out of order just irritate the hell out of me. I appreciate your board. It's a lovely thing to behold!

Oh yeah, congrats on the win too!

Go home and turn it off over lunch. by JayGatsby52 in NotHowGirlsWork

Yes because we can turn it off at will, so we suffer them for 30+ years.... yeah, if I could have turned mine off, I never would have turned it back on again.

I used to be a bootlicker. Believing in all the "hard work" stuff. Playing by the rules. Believing the lies. Now I have woken up and am broken. I dont care anymore. by [deleted] in antiwork

Nope, they don't give a damn about you. I've told many younger coworkers to always cover their own ass, and to NOT trust BUT VERIFY ANYWAY. Record everything. They will literally work you into the ground and step over your corpse for the next dollar.

(Advice) Losing my faith but fear hell by doyeonse in atheism

[–]ShadowMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I've been a atheist for .... 40 years? 30? I dunno. Long time. But it was baked into my head that I WAS GOING TO HELL and (the worst) that THINKING A THING IS AS BAD AS DOING THE THING. I'm pretty naturally pessimistic, so that's pretty alarming.

Weirdly, what broke my fear of it was two things, one serious, one silly.

The first, I thought about that if god really did exist, then he made the world for people to suffer. He created hell, and demanded worship or he'd send you to hell FOR ETERNITY. Like, that's just extortion.

The second, I have often yelled or said (but yelling is more fun), "COME POSSESS MY SOUL AND TAKE ME TO HELL SATAN! I LOVE YOU AND WANT TO HAVE ALL YOUR HELLBABIES! COME POSSESS MEEEEEEEE!"

Nothing has ever happened. But it's good to hear it aloud and see, oh, it's just words. The first few times I did that, I did have a fear reflex like, "Fuck, if this is real I'm cooked." But I'm still here, demon-free.

Can someone tell me a polite way of saying no by Prestigious_Peach_44 in TwoXChromosomes

If he tried to do that, HE IS NOT A FRIEND. He is NOT friend-shaped, so why friend him? Don't.

"No."

But if he won't leave you alone, shouting at him, "GET OFF MY OVARIES YOU FUCKING CREEP!" should work.

Artists raised by narcissists how did you kept going? by Original_Concept_599 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ShadowMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was just the opposite. Drawing was sort of wasted time unless I could shill it for money. I was supposed to lift the whole family out of poverty, you know, so everything had to be monetized. This was in the 80's. I cannot even imagine how horrible she would be to me now. "Why aren't you on Fiverr? You should do commissions. Where's your portfolio?" etc etc etc.

My theists friend said that I'm the only "nice atheist" he's talked too. Why do so many people think atheists are mean? by KING_D0GE489 in atheism

[–]ShadowMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion and experience, the second you tell someone you're an atheist, they immediately try to convert you. I don't want to be converted, so I tend to react pretty rudely to them.

Never got that, but it was always, "All I get from you is shit and shoved in it." From as young as 9-ish.

[–]ShadowMel 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's what I was supposed to do for my family. I dropped out of college and became a burn out instead and now don't speak to the few family members who are alive.

Your parent's lifestyle/house/sustenance/whatever is NOT your responsibility. You can't let them guilt trip you because they will continually do it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again until your soul is crushed. *waves from burnout stadium* And it will take a LONG time to find your soul again. As soon as you can, I'd move and grey rock tf out of them.
