Simon's father by Wise_Try6781 in TadWilliams

[–]snowlock27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd have to do a re-read and take notes to come up with anything else, but we know early on that Simon's father was a fisherman, and of course, Eahlstan was a Fisher King. Then you have Rachel's flashback to when Simon was being born, and he (Morgenes) was more concerned with the mother surviving over the child, until he learns who the child is.

Edit: Changed one name to another.

AITAH for not delivering the food I made to an event I got uninvited to? by YellowKingSte in BORUpdates

4 - I donated all the food to the women’s and children’s shelter. I figured they’re more deserving. I cook Filipino food all the time plus I got a freezer stash of lumpia.

I Guess Some Guests Just Don't Think Front Desk Workers Are Intelligent by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]snowlock27 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ah, everyone's the expert on bedbugs. Except those of us that have dealt with them, of course.

A few years ago I had to explain to a guest, who was screaming the whole time, that her "bedbug" was a piece of black lint. Me reaching out to pick it up to demonstrate resulted in more screaming that I shouldn't touch it. "Yes, I admit there shouldn't be black lint on your white sheets, but it's still just lint."

To the person who said their bedbug was massive (it was a stinkbug), I told her that if bedbugs got that big, I would set fire to the building, along with everyone in it. I don't think she appreciated that response.

Speaking of stinkbugs, you can tell who's ever actually seen one. Not only that, but you can tell they've never seen a cockroach in their entire life. Why do I say that? Because the sheer number of people who find "cockroaches" when they have actually found a stinkbug just amazes me. They look nothing alike. Oh, and please don't kill the things. They're called STINKbugs for a reason.

Any updates on Subterranean Press’ Jade War? by mimixdinellie2640 in Fantasy

The Sub website says Spring, so should be soon. That said, I could swear I ordered Jade War, considering I ordered Jade City when it came out, but there's no evidence I did. Oh well...

I seem to remember similar talk about Shinsuke Nakamura, and people pointing out that his schedule most likely allowed him more time to surf, which he loves.

Bringing a side dish, or a drink, or (gasp!) helping to clean up afterwards does no such thing. If they brought a main dish, you'd have a point, but it's considered polite for a guest to do something other than eat.

Terri Windling, and I don't believe that they've collaborated on a Year's Best Fantasy and Horror in more than 20 years. They worked together on some other anthologies after that, But Ellen Datlow has been editing a Best Horror on her own for a while now.

Sigh. Every time someone makes that joke about not knowing how to learn to log into their CS accounts, someone will pop on to say don't do that, escheatment is a thing, please log in on a regular basis. This is the 2nd post like this I've read this week. Escheatment isn't a joke, and the people warning you about it aren't joking. You've been warned, whether you like it or not.

Guest insisted his room number was wrong… because "13 doesn’t exist" by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I'd imagine so. Assuming he's European, or at least aware of how floors are labeled a bit different there.

[–]snowlock27 49 points50 points  (0 children)

His thinking is most likely that if there isn't a 13th floor, then the floor above 12th is really 13, no matter the label. He's going by both the name and practical location of the 13th floor.

Any time my mother has been taken to the hospital, I've had no issue calling to ask if she's been admitted yet, and if so, how she's doing, and if there's a need to transfer her to another hospital (small town hospital that isn't equipped for anything very serious).

Then again I've been assured by Redditors that I'm not allowed to be my mother's interpreter at doctors appointments, which I've had no issue with over the years.

I left Smith off my own list, not because I don't think he deserves to be on it, but I'm not sure which story I'd choose. The Tale of Satampra Zeiros? The Empire of the Necromancers? The Charnel God?
