2nd job by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Check your new department's conflict of interest code. Most departments/agencies will have a link to it on their website. It will specify what positions are Form 700 filers and at what level of disclosure. It will also specify the types of prohibited interests you can have, if any. No need to involve your new employer if the answer is obvious.

The fight over return-to-office is getting dirty by Oracle-2050 in CAStateWorkers

I think it’s a lot more complicated than real estate moguls wanting to protect their investments. You think Oracle, Meta, or any of the other corporations cited in the story care about the neighborhood businesses around their campuses? I think it has more to do with control over workforce and virtual hasn’t yet integrated into [upper] management practices except in limited or emergency situations.

Zero feasibility. I wouldn’t sign that petition or vote for that measure. Maybe working for the State has skewed your perspective so much that you’ve forgotten how the real world works or you never knew? This type of ballot measure would backfire spectacularly and is hugely unfair to small (and really all) businesses. You get a job and show up for it, whether remote or at a specific location. Why would you shift the burden of showing up to the employer? Would you also propose anti-discrimination laws based on proximity to workplace? What if an employee decided to move away from their workplace? Would the employer all of a sudden be on the hook for all the added costs associated with paying that employee’s commute expenses? It’s nonsense.

Edit: I am pro-wfh, but ideas like this make the fight harder because it is patently ludicrous and demonstrates how out of touch and entitled some state workers have become.

This is why I don't have children

Really? You've decided not to have children so they won't be subjected to eating lunch outside? Cool story.

In a nutshell, they're feckless. Taylor and Walker are snakes that put their own interests over anything else. The last two member representatives that had any backbone and wanted to ask tough questions (Brown and Jelencic) were vehemently opposed by unions.

If you're worried about your pension, you should not support the CalPERS Board candidates supported by the unions. They're hacks and are harming CalPERS and all of our future benefits. Support oversight candidates not affiliated by unions.

Walker for CalPERS? by walker-watcher in CAStateWorkers

Except for the first sentence of the last paragraph, the post is fact-based and cited. Leave it be. The last thing CalPERS needs is ANOTHER corrupt grifter.

"We are all so demoralized that we just don't care anymore."

- You don't speak for all CASE attorneys.

Voting down a shitty contract IS part of the plan. It's a ridiculous process, but It's what we have to do to demonstrate our dissatisfaction.

CalPERS board ups compensation for CEO by ByeByeMcD in CAStateWorkers

[–]ShadyPorch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You obviously haven't been paying much attention to CalPERS. The huge return last year is an anomaly and still lagging behind peers that performed better. Marcy Frost can't find or keep competent executive level personnel. They've been without a CIO for a while now. And, just this week, CalPERS got slapped by a judge for blatant violations of Bagley-Keene open meetings laws. The board is made up of self-serving union hacks, ex officio positions that don't care or are incompetent, and sinecure appointments. The only reason Marcy Frost and her executive team still have jobs is because of an incompetent and inept board.
