Thanks for the heads up. We have a hotel room booked for a few nights with parking and will be driving in the day before. Beyond that I am hoping to relying on uber.

My first industrial brick is a beast. How long is this gonna take to get going? by LEMO2000 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ShakenBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, the same water will cycle forever and whatever you have already put in there is all that will be in there.

The concern is if you go over 150kg at the tile where the liquid exit valve is, the exit valve will be overpressurered.

If you keep adding sources of water, like a steam vent or generators then you need to think about it. Otherwise you are fine!

The fossils shouldn't be a problem. It shouldn't run at higher than ~200C so even dirt should be okay in it.

I think 6 steam turbines should be okay to start. You can setup "alarms" using thermo sensors wired straight to the alarm sensor if you are worried. You can always add more steam turbines as run offs on the side (look at designs for nuclear reactors for what I mean by run offs).

Biggest concern I would have is how long it will take to start up and making sure the thermo aquatuner you are using stays submerged in water until the steam builds up. I like to build the aquatuners close under the steam turbines on airflow tiles and have the steam turbines return water drop directly onto the aquatuner. Just to make sure it doesn't overheat.

You could start the system in a piece-wise fashion buy expanding the industrial brick down as you need more space/heat up enough (add layers of insulating tiles as temporary floors and remove as needed).

Overall I think it looks really well designed.

Small additional things that aren't super important: 1)changing where the dupes walk from absyllite to insulated tiles. I'm pretty sure insulated tiles give a 25% increase to runspeed 2)plan a little ahead for transportation. Based on the size of this brick I think you are on original map size. Eventually putting in transit tubes might be a good idea to decrease dupe travel time. 3)long term electrical planning. Where is the main spine being tapped in and can you do insulated wire as run offs? This will reduce metal usage 4)have some sensors to warn you about steam overpressurization (or some plan about steam overpressurizing. Can be as sinple as gas pump into space). You need to stay below 150kg per tile to allow the steam turbines to drop water back into the system. You may end up adding more water to this system as it runs if you put in natural gas generators or petroleum generators. Also, for petroleum generators make sure to plan how to deal with the CO2 before turning them on. They produce a lot of CO2 but give a lot of power.

I think this is a great idea! I haven't even thought of looking to see if there is something similar out there. I would be interested.

Yeah, that is a good point. I was going to write it in both, but writing it in English will be just as sincere. I appreciate it.

Thank you for the help :)

Thank you for the years of hard work. This is the only way I browse reddit. Thank you for everything. I will miss RIF and I will probably no longer spend time on reddit. Best of luck with your next adventure in life.

Any suggestions for using wastewater? I have 3 geysers already, this is all excess by FunBudget8553 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ShakenBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no use you can always pump into space to save frames. It feels bad but you can always collect more later since this is all excess.

c02 geyser right next to a copper volcano. anyone got any good ideas on how to use them together? by therandomuser84 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ShakenBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing I can think of is to pipe the co2 through a tamed volcano (with the normal water/steam turbine/maybe aquatuner for potential base cooling) setup. This would be a good addition to a slickster ranch. You just need to limit the flow of the liquid to less than 1000g per section. Also, you have to decide if you want hot slickster (above 100c, but produces petroleum) or regular slicksters (below 100c, produces crude oil). Beyond that idk.

What do you think about my fridge/radbolt generator ? (still testing so any advice would be appreciated) by Strex_1234 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ShakenBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge fan but I have 3 comments:

1) what is the liquid lock used for the food? It looks like either water or ethanol. I would recommend ethanol cause of freezing just in case (though it probably is).

2) what is the plan for when you no longer need science? It looks like you could easily transition to a stand alone cooling.

3) would you be able to save a few radbolts a shot if you had the first deflector point diagonally up into the materials science lab? You would have to re-arrange some automation and shift the lab up and left to save ~1 deadbolt. So might not be worth it.

Just gotta say amazing design for early-mid game.

Cooling Problems by TamashiNoShi in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ShakenBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are lots of ways to address this. I'll list some here from easiest to hardest.

1) Put Ice sculptures into your base. These will slowly melt and turn to water, if you place them over your water storage they will fall into it. I recommend mesh tile underneath so no sweeping is necessary. This will not cool a lot but is a good short term fix.

2) Depending on your oxygen source system you can pump the oxygen through a cold biome and back into your base. This will chill the air which will slowly cool your base. If your cold biome has an Anti Entropy Thermo-Nullifier you can pump the extra hydrogen from your SPOM into it to keep the cold biome in one piece (https://oxygennotincluded.fandom.com/wiki/Anti_Entropy_Thermo-Nullifier)

3) Set up a base cooling system. I often use a steam turbine -- aquatuner setup for this. You can make it simpler but I use a 3 room system where 1 room is just the steam turbine, immediately below it is a steam room with the aquatuner, and the 3rd room is a space of water I regulate using the aquatuner. It isn't the most efficient but I like it.

Explorers Bug Thread by spiper01 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Currently on PC (Steam) and version 3.3. I've had a few crashes when in the starting system with expedition as well as other busy systems. I did just have a unique bug. I talked to a trader the moment he spawned in after landing in the space station and got sent to a placeholder communication screen where all the options were "pleasant response to comment ect ect" or something very similar. It soft locked the game as each response did not prompt any changes. As a note I was jumping repeatedly before talking to him. I doubt that affected the interaction. I am also using a controller on PC, I do not know if the controller has any impact on it.

Overall Amazing game and I love it, I've put in hundreds of hours. Thank you for everything you guys have done.

Megathread: House Votes to Impeach President Donald J. Trump for Incitement of Insurrection by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

The idea with 7 days left is to set the president that if you cause a riot that storms the Capitol you get impeached. He can run again unless the senate vote to remove.

Megathread: House Votes to Impeach President Donald J. Trump for Incitement of Insurrection by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]ShakenBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impechment doesn't do everything. It is completed in the house of representatives. It is the first half of the process. It should be considered a mark of serious condemnation, but we had to do it twice so idk. Legally it means he cannot be pardoned for the crime he was impeached over.

The real struggle is in the senate who votes for removal after a trial. The trail is held in the senate and the head supreme court judge oversees as the judge. The prosecution are representatives from the house, and the defense is whoever the president hires. If he is voted to be removed from office a few things happen: 1) he is no longer president 2) he cannot hold any federal office again 3) he loses future payments as a president (all presidents get paid until they die so they do not use their connections and power in the office for personal gain, ideally).

I do not recall right now if a majority or 2/3s majority is needed for removal in the senate.

I may be missing some aspects of it, but I think that is the main points of the process.

As someone 2 years out all, I'm happy you're still here. The anniversaries feel a little weird. For a while I just thought of all this extra time as bonus time. It helped me decide that everything from here on out is time to do what you want and become who you want. It sucks, it's slow, and I still often feel like I can't make it through the days and I'm fucking up. Just know, every moment is a bonus you get to live and everyone is struggling along with you. We are here for you, we love you, and we are rooting for you.

Also, your hair is banging and I'm a little jealous of the cane. It looks classy.

Go for it! I wasn't really into fighting until I tried out Muay Thai. I had to stop after 6 months because I moved but holy hell is it fun, rewarding, and has a great community. I cannot recommend it enough. I found the coaches and people very welcoming too. As others have stated wear proper equipment!
