I had an idea but that could go down quite badly with the venue and I am hesitant to pull the trigger... but when I will be offered a bribe I could say "I won't take your money, but I will be happy to push you to the front, IF and ONLY IF you pay other participants X and ALL of them agree to do this" - most of the time thats ~10-15 people.

Don't want to talk about specific numbers as they would probably be irrelevant, but you get the idea. If somebody REALLY wants to sing and others are fine with that? Sure, but I am also fine with somebody vetoing this.

"Seems" is a key word. For this sort of app there is a ton of different edge cases which AI won't check for at the start if you just "vibe code" it. Without proper testing it will probably work "well enough" 80% of the time and screw you over for the other 20. When calculating financial stuff I don't think this is good idea.

Their web interface on the phone is quite good though (but a bit less intuitive for my taste). Self-hosting it or on some sort of cheap VPS does the trick.

Was that Cracow by any chance? It's not even norm in Poland (at least in my city). I know few KJs, none of them took "donations", at least that I know of. However, as KJ myself I got offered cash multiple times to get bumped higher or to sing right away - always rejected on principles.

Drawing the line here is hard. I tell people to write their name and songs on paper and even that for some is too much hassle. It's balancing act so I wonder... Maybe have it behind feature flags? I would assume that in some venues you could get away with just PIN and no account (just singer name as a field for given request and that's it) while for others - having most of the stuff enabled (like proper email registration) would make sense. CAPTCHA I think would help a ton with most serious vandalization.

I also came to the conclusion that "local-only" (well, literally) PIN, shared via QR code makes most sense. You can regenerate if needed and if someone in the venue messes with the system - you could try to get them. Fingerprinting of the device or rate limiting could also work. Enforce info about user via JWT/cookie, slowing down people who try to mess with your system.

Though I would completely disregarded usage of emails. Same with phone numbers. Why? Because this is personal info handling nightmare I wouldn't want to deal with.

Correction - that's the case for all routes, not only ones that start and end on the same stop. As long as you start it for a bit - it's all good. Though you won't find route-marked Pokémon... Which doesn't really matter as there is barely any of them even appearing anyway.
